Not real difficult at all to see if the bushes are stuffed. The car can be flat on the ground and just get a screw driver in there and wiggle it. That tells you if they're knackered or not. They're only rubber after all, not any other material. Just the same for the same era Falcon. The most common bush I've seen knackered on these Commodores are the Z-bar or radius rod bushes(Same thing, just different people call it different things). at the control arm and the cross member. Not real expensive to replace either. Looking about $30 for the control arm one. Not 100% on price for the cross member one. Hope this helps |

My mistake, not control arm bushes, Strut/Radius bar/rod to chassis bushes. Getting towards $200 from Repco I think.

The front bushes aren't that common to stuff up with this model Commodore. The majority of the time they are replaced is so they can make them adjustable. It's the rear ones that stuff up and they are cheap. Just on a side note. Repco are bloody rip offs (Sorry to offend people). There prices are over inflated for what you get for the general public. If you're to get these adjustable bushes, the place is Pedders to get them. Anyway, I think I'm starting to stray off topic too much, so I'll leave it there |

All sold..Sold the rims to an old mate for $800 and sold the car with some stocky rims I found for $1000! Made a few dollars in the end and can say I have owned a commodore and prefer falcon's :P
I simply don't have any where near enough income to keep 3 cars on the road as a 17 year old, Also this morning i replaced the R31 air filter and put all new leads and plugs as well as a general service, and it idles soo much better..Am still yet to take it for a drive I am thinking I will sell the skyline come november though, If i can find someone interested in it that is! I need some money for schoolies and am taking 6-8 weeks of work because of surgery recovery time! Cheers and thanks everyone, the VT's new owner is a 26 yo bloke from newcastle..

I had one a few years ago. Berlina VT2 with Gen 3 V8. The engine was the best bit, the rest of the car was a piece of crap. It had FE2 suspension, and felt like the car was really unstable over 100km/h, it was just an unrefined piece of junk... i wanted to take the engine out and put it in something deserving of the power. Get a BA XR6 or XR8 instead.

I felt the commodore used about as much fuel as the falcon, although was slower accelerating made a terrible diff noise even though it had lower km's and had a very bad shake at 95km's and above (probably wheel alignment although tread wear didn't reveal that!) Falcon is also much more practical being a wagon, and slips under the cops radar better due to a quieter exhaust and it being a wagon:P

I must of missed something, what was the point in getting the VT when you have the R31?

I've always found BA diffs noiser than the Crumpledores. The BA XR's had a bad problem with it, especially the turbo models. I know of a fair few that were replaced because of it, under warranty. One in particular sticks out in my mind. 20,000 on the clock and got a replacement diff. No sooner was the car collected, it went straight back for another one to be fitted, as that was noiser than the original one. So I'll disagree with that part of the comment. Another disagrement is the shake quoting. That isn't anything to do with alignments. That's a wheel balance problem. Now the wagon comment. Even Crumpledores slip under copper radars too, exhaust note and all. The only down fall being a wagon, is when you load them up, they rip rear tyres apart quicker. yes, I'll wear crap over my comments with this, but I couldn't these comments be left as is. |
