I've always thought they are all a bit small seeing the rear seat leg room and tray lengths aren't that great, maybe an extra litre or so in capacity to give a bit more power

I know you can get stretched Rangers, which is a dual cab Ranger but with a longer wheelbase to fit a space or single cab tray. They actually look really good, and in a way more balanced than the normal Dual cab.

I'd prefer to sit in the back of my Ranger than my old G6e.
5 seats = small tub, but what else can you buy to carry a family with bikes,
a fridge and tow my van on trips away, and my tools during the week?( I can't afford an F150.)
I know its no race car but its the best vehicle to suit my needs,
If I want to go fast I'll get on my motorcycle that will embarrass pretty much any car.
And going by the sales charts plenty of people that are buying dual cabs agree
As Brazen said, I think they'll surprise most people that have not been in a late model dual cab, they're quite comfortable and versatile

Colorados are the worst vehicles I have ever driven and I have driven a lot of crap vehicles. My work had to upgrade to 5 star ANCAP and went with 11 Colarados over the ranger and the hilux. All of the guys prefer to drive the 10 year old hiluxes over them they are seriously junk cars. They just have zero guts under about 3000 RPM. These things just turn off completely going around a corner in second gear at 30km/h just horrible pieces of crap.

Had a few Performance cars over the years, just got into a PX1 as I have 2 dogs and do a bit of hunting, all I can say is I'm not disappointed in my choice of Truck, great both on & off road, PX2 even better.

Did I mention the colarado is crap...

The one I am driving today just ticked over 6000 kms and the key is being held together with duct tape as it basically exploded in a million pieces. If you dont hold it just right it wont start.

On Monday I sent two guys on a 1000km round trip in outback central SA far from civilisation. On the way back they lost 5th gear and then 6th. Spent 400 kms in 4th gear. That car has done approx 30000kms....

I had a PX 1, did 105,000km without an problem. Traded for a PX2. Have currently done just under 3000km so far so good. I cant recommend them enough honestly. I had an FG 1 turbo ute and it was nice, it was fast, but moving from my 20's into my 30's, bub on the way and hunting, camping and fishing being my new interests, couldn't go wrong with it. Didn't even shop around. Paid $59,000 for an XLT with Tech pack, threw on ARB canopy, snorkel and rack (mirror of the PX1) ********* brilliant.

I was looking at both, and whilst I think the Ranger looks much better, I couldn't really separate them.

The 2015 upgrade particularly on higher series has seen Ranger jump ahead in terms of features and ride / handling.

You'll see that gap grow as the Mazda versions development has basically stopped.

Not sure if the bt50 has the electric power steering, but the px1 to px2 differences in drive is night and day and it's a lot to do with the steering.

I drive a px1 as a daily and I was really blown away by the drive improvements to the px2. Enjoyed it more than the Everest, to be frank. Now if I could only stop my wife looking at bloody Jeeps* I'd have a px2 as a family car in a shot.

*If ford had sacked their PR department and hired the jeep guys 20 years ago, women would still be buying Falcons today.

I had a PXII XLT auto as a loan car while my territory was getting another EGR valve put on it and I was impressed with it. Compared to the V6 diesel in the territory the engine lacks a bit of refinement and as a result more cabin noise but the extra power and torque is noticeable. In conjunction with the sweet shifting auto it moves the ranger along very swiftly. I actually had no idea you could get adaptive cruise and lane keep assist in the ranger but found both excellent. It's a pity some of this tech didn't find its way in to the SZ2 territory.

You can tell it's designed primarily for left hand drive markets though, the volume knob for the radio is on the wrong side as is the gate you pull the shifter into for manually selecting the gears but I'm sure you'd adjust to both long term. The only other complaint I had was the seats were a bit flat and lacking support compared to the territory but overall it's an impressive package. It's not hard to see why it's selling in the numbers it is.

Just been given a new ranger at work, PERSONALLY very dissapointed, has the turning circle of a city block, slow and laggy, bings and bongs when the doors open, seatbelts, not in park, infuriating!!! Buttons all over the wheel for the e-phone generation to stay connected instead of actually driving. I give it 30 000kms in my line of work and it'll fall apart like the old one and the one before that...

The things you hate about it are not unquie to teh Ranger, it sounds like every ute on the market.

Ranger turning circle seams to be inline with most other utes that are 5.5m long.
At least in the Ranger full lock is only just under 1.5 rotations like a normal car. Most utes require 2 full rotations to full lock. Annoying in carparks or anywhere else where you are doing a lot of slow, tight turns.

Found another flaw the other day, anyone tried trail braking or dabbing the brake to correct under steer? The engine shuts power off WTF! Might be a first world problem but with the lack of chassis dynamics you're really going to have to throw every trick you can at them in the interest of spirited driving, will have to ask the boss for a blouse to go with the ute, I've only had the thing a week and dread getting into it every morning...

I reckon you haven't noticed the stability control light flashing and the computer decided that was enough. I recently received a ranger as a work car (2013 single cab 2.2px with no trimmings and not a hi rider) and aside from it being useless to work out of for my needs, the car itself is pretty good. Ride wise it cant compare to my personal car, but compared to other comercials I have had and driven its miles ahead for ride quality. Being a manual 2.2, when you granny shift and use the Rev match feature it lags between gears pretty bad, but if you go for the quick shift, the turbo doesn't have time to slow down and it keeps the (not exactly quick) forward motion up and is a comfortable drive. Im comparing a loaded ranger to loaded petrol hi luxs and Mitsubishi vans, so compared to both the torque is nice

WTF, if you're going to try, let's call it spirited driving, especially on dirt, with ANY new car you'll have to turn off the stability control abs esc etc will go nuts.
You should have bought a 20 yr old car all your gripes are valid for 99% of new cars.

The last one had the little arrow on the dash to tell you when to change gears, cute, same as the traction light, never paid any attention to it, just the road ahead of me I was taught to drive heads up, with sound and feel.
Agreed I should be in an older car but what are my options there? I had a Courier 20 years ago, that was appalling too and how many of them do you see on the road now?

Get a HQ or a XB ute.

That's the sort of ute you should be driving.

I think you'll find that cutting the engine power whilst the vehicle is under steering, and you're dabbing the brakes is normal - it would occur in any car, as the ESC detects you lost traction.
If you're on dirt you need to turn the ESC off.
G6E-T and XR6T owners know of the engine power being cut just launching it off the line.
