I can remember the interview with the German GM exec before ZB was released, talking about "educating the customer to fwd". Look at the sales and company position now. Cherry on top, Peugeot will be owning the platform as GM sold Opel, and the Lion badge for that car will be the French one.

Quick question to all, what do you think will happen to dual cab sales when the housing market turns? The sales are in part driven by tax incentives to trades.

Commodore sales will bounce back.
They are advertising and sponsoring everything everywhere. Unfortunately Ford have a different theory and when the Ranger type vehicles slow in sales Ford will be in real trouble

IMO I think over the next 18 mths to 2 years will see the twin cab ute market begin to drop once the FBT rules kick in on them removing the previous FBT exemption on them.
My work stopped buying sedans and moved to twin cab utes only because of this,

1000 maybe when they run huge incentives like they did late last year on Astra and Colorado. Remember this is not really a Commodore as we all know it. Commodore buyers from yesteryear know what it is, and will for the most part “move on”. |

Is this the time to state that the AWD V6 Calais wagon version of the new Commodore could be quite a handy piece of kit?

If anyone here is looking to buy a 6-speed manual 2018 Mustang, hold off until Ford sorts out the shift fork issue in their Getrag transmissions.
TSB is already out in the US

Good point, & I think GM would have a winner if they did a 4cyl AWD wagon version at about base Outback pricing. Was just picturing it's use going up the GT Alpine Road and not having to have a CVT...

For a general purpose family car maybe the new commodore is OK. The AWD version with all the driver aids would be a nice safe car.

Always wonder how anyone can question WHY these things are so popular....is it really because everyone loves dual cabs? As if....... It'd be interesting to see some real figures how how many of these are actually purchased under an exemption. And count how many of them rock up at primary schools and soccer games in the mornings with mum behind the wheel and a gleaming untouched tray

Reckoning that there will only be leftover options before long - especially if there is more profit in sales to the UK.
Remember this car is "Dead Man Walking" in GM world - and also from the Pug world. It will soon be replaced by something else from GM, or Holden will become a PSA company. |

Lol, the same people who have been making them for other markets for years unlike the locally made Commodore which was essentially built for our market with a handful of export units that never really gained traction elsewhere.

I’ve seen about 6 here in Victoria in the last few days. All white, and all had rental car company stickers on the back window. |

You sell the car at what the market will pay, your costs to enter a market are fixed for the most part though.
The margin on built up vehicles is historically lower as some of that margin is taken by the manufacturer and also transfer price. Holden are not getting any of that from Peugeot, they pay wholesale. Currency fluctuation can also take its toll. So I’m tipping a German made car, made by a non GMH subsidiary that is shipped across the world and sold in much lower volume than the outgoing product is less profitable. The number of Holden dealers closing, and the lay offs in GMH sales and marketing is probably an indicator. |

One thing is for sure, imported vehicles like ZB Commodore
have a lot of the profit kept for the production region, That way, there’s very little profit here for the govt to tax. For years, ford bought Mondeo off Europe at damned near Pommy retail price, added shipping and import charges and Voila, almost Falcon like prices, I have no reason to not believe that Holden does any different with Commodore Last edited by jpd80; 08-08-2018 at 10:39 PM. |
