I think too many people class animals as some kind of variation of the human race, rather than replaceable possessions.
I was brought up as a little fella bottle feeding all of the orphan lambs then helping dad turn them into chops and sausages.. never did me any harm at all

That would have been hard for the poor kid to watch, but that's how life is in the wild, eat to survive, the alligator didn't do it to be cruel, it did it to survive

the child should have been removed from there instantly instead of being able to witness it and make comments...

on the other side of it all... the child needs to watch The Lionking... its all spelled out there... Lion eats antelope, lion craps on grass, antelope eats grass, lion eats antelope... and the cycle is fair... lol!

Says in your signature "my signature is my best friend" . Appears you never had a pet as your best friend... a lot of people actually do class animals as some kind of variation of the human race, and a lot of people see them as something a little more than "chops and sausages"

I have a budgie and while I love her dearly, I've often thought about pan frying her if I'm ever short on chicken. It's an option

Ok I am kidding. My budgie is awesome.

Conversely, there are a lot of people who just don't care about what the end of the day may bring for their car..."it's just a piece of metal convienience, that has served it's purpose" and is now ready for the "alligator"!!

There is a point people are missing when they say it's the food chain. It's one thing to see a random animal get eaten by a predator, that's fine and kids see that in movies like the Lion King when they're ankle biters. But this turtle was his pet. Totally different.

If you saw a wild dog being attacked by a predator, you wouldn't think anything of it. But what if it was your dog? You'd have to be a cold person not to give a toss...

Are humans really top of the food chain? When we die we get eaten by worms.

x1. I have a little dog, and if I witnessed him being attacked by say a coyote, wolf etc I would be absolutely devastated, and I'm an adult.

He'll probably get over it in years to come, but it's not something nice for a 8 year old to witness.

I spent alot of time on my grandparents' farm as a youngster, and I saw chooks being beheaded, but it didn't bother me as I had no emotional attachment to them. Pets are different, because you have a bond with them that only you can feel.

Admit it. If you were an onlooker, your response would be " that, that was awesome "

Looks like he got a first hand look at the food chain, he should thank his lucky stars and use it for news day at school.

Yes, I have a 6 year old they'll get over it.

(To all the "toughies".)
There's a difference between a "hardened" heart and powerful soul.
The former is usually deprived of mercy, full of arrogance, and ultimately, weak and feeble. Cowardice.
The latter, the opposite.
