We adapt and will continue to. I seriously doubt that electric cars will ever be forced to emit a noise. There are already some very quiet ICE cars. I think you're clutching at straws Last edited by xxx000; 20-11-2019 at 09:07 AM. |

You’ll be promoting walls of self laying recycled composite blocks that absorb carbon, while generating electricity and oxygen. Yet look exactly like the stone of that area.

A Jericho siren would easily identity the presence of an EV. Soon clear the streets as well.

If we consider that the majority of our population lives in our capital cities and smaller cities and towns around the costal edge of our country, then it makes sense for a lot of them to drive electric vehicles to improve pollution clusters where they normally form. That does not mean the rest of the folks in the bush have to follow suit, quite the opposite in fact. We just need to be smarter with our policies and who really needs to do what.

In answer to the thread starters original question; Should electric vehicles be banned?
No, of course not, it's clearly the way of the future and I think even hardcore haters are beginning to see the inevitable. |

I dont think most people on this forum hate electric cars I for 1 see they have a future but I dont see it happening as soon as others think it will I usually base my opinions on facts not feelings the logistics of introducing such a new transport system is almost impossible in the time frame some might suggest..

Don’t tell that to wealthy western ‘environmentalists’ who feel smug for dropping near or over 6 figures on an EV though. |

Should we ban them? No.
But anyone who buys one and thinks they are saving the environment by doing so is a brainwashed moron. Production of EV vehicles is significantly more polluting than that of a regular car, and if the electricity source used to recharge it comes from coal then it's doing even more sweet FA for the environment. While also putting extra load on our ridiculously under capacity power plants. Coming black outs are a certainty in the future. The Vic government allowing the coal powered plant to be closed, and thus relying on importing electricity from other states was idiotic without the resources to replace it's output. Once we have a heatwave across the country it's lights out. 100% this will happen. Just a matter of time. |

Electric cars don't have A/C?

Why not go the whole hog and ban all cars. AU Falcons exempt as they are classified as mobile works of art.

This guy gets it, revenue will have to come from somewhere. We (NZ) have diesel Kms (road tax) which we have to buy going off speedo mileage when running a light diesel vehicle, heavy trucks run a hubometer. Ev charge points are free in Auckland for now. (general public subsidising them) Also does AU have a surplus of electricity to cope with what will be a extra demand on power grid, plus is Govt future proofing power generation. New gas stations are popping up everywhere over here as well. But no don't think they need banning, just don't think they are the complete answer.

But EV's will require power to run at the moment - most of ours comes from Coal.

Until you run out of petrol and need an electric bowser to fill your car up.

Due to a cable fault in 1998 (no other reason) Auckland was blacked out for around 5 weeks, blackouts happen. With a ice car you can refill jerry can, not sure how you would get on with a ev. Ice generator maybe

and I can recall numerous fuel strikes that caused shortages in Sydney. Cars queued for blocks in Sydney at limited servos that were allowed to be open trying to get precious fuel.

And, yes, nearly every Greenie is a stupid, self-centred hypocrite. But, why are we afraid of EV technology? I leased an Outlander PHEV from 2014 to 2017. Except for the cost, it was a well sorted out vehicle. Below are some of the advantages; 1. A round trip from home to work and back home was 40km. I could do this in pure EV mode for around 10 kWh of electricity. At the time, my piddly 1.5 kW solar PV system – eight small panels installed in 2010 - was generating enough electricity to completely offset the electricity used. 2. A more typical 2019 6.6kW solar PV home system can generate around 45kWh per day, which is around 160km of daily driving. Further, some of the solar PV limits have been lifted, and it is possible to install systems up to 10kW with export limits. 3. A bread and butter Ford Ranger costs around $55K on the road. A Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is also around $55K on the road (different applications to be sure). 4. From a driver’s perspective, what I appreciated the most about the EV is how smooth and quite it is. Sure, it does not stir the blood like a thumping V8. But, when coming home from work after a crappy day, sitting in peak our traffic on a hot summer’s afternoon, I will take an EV any day. 5. Stop thinking of it as you being forced into an EV, and expand your thinking to other applications. For example, I would really appreciate the garbage truck being converted to EV. Particularly as it revs up and down the local streets at 5AM. Ditto for anyone who lives near a main road and has to put up with the noise of diesel trucks running up and down through the gears. EV trucks will be much quieter. 6. If you live near main roads, the conversion to EV will significantly reduce your exposure to vehicle pollution, and the inside of your house will end up much cleaner. 7. EV batteries can be recycled. Already, there is a second hand market for EV batteries being reused as storage batteries for home. And while it is more expensive to recycle the batteries than mining the raw materials, they can be recycled (see CSIRO report into lithium battery recycling). I, for one, cannot wait to get back into a low-cost EV. But I will not be doing it to save the planet. I will be doing it for the driving pleasure. |
