Off to the blasters next and that will never happen again, stretched the roof which was the only goo part of the original shell.

And into red brown.

While the body was still on the rotisserie Dean and I decided to paint the interior, underneath, eng bay and boot in gloss black seeing as the next step was roll cage. At this point the car finally came off the rotisserie and back onto it's wheels, for semi assembly to allow the rollcage to be fitted.

Car mocked up including race dash made earlier.

Rollcage being fitted....

What stretched the roof? Blasting? Nice Goss in the shed by the way.

Thanks. Media blasting creates heat in the panel, however a good blaster can balance that against going to hard and stretching the panel. My chosen blaster went too hard to get the surface rust off!

Found some more pics of the rollcage build

Rear seat modified and now fitting around the cage. This one took some work. Thanks to Alan at Oz Trim in Ringwood

At least the passengers in the back have something to hold on to when you go around corners

Todays installment. Making racer parts. 1st up I have turned up a fuel cap that looks like a dry break filler for fuel. 1979 was the 1 year these were a safety requirement.

Here's a pic of a real one

It will mount under the hole in the boot lid

Next up I have had to make press on spigots for the rear axles so the wheels locate correctly. This was made necessary due to the size of the front hubs. Pics of these when I have them

This pic shows me holding the finished spigot against an axle. They press fit on then have a keep screw in the centre. One the diff is assembled I'll take a pic for the whole deal.

Next I have made up some washers to tidy up how the front spoiler mounts. The spoiler has 4 only to hold it on and with a speed brace take less that a minute to take off the car.

More soon

This next group of pics brings us up to today.

Spoke to Dean, the painter yesterday, car is wet sanded and ready for paint. Should be gloss black by Friday night and we'll be masking it up for final paint mid next week. I'll post more pics when I have them over the weekend.

No unfortunately. They are customer cars, the green and white Goss in the garage and Avatar is mine. Vic based Coupe Club members know it well.

Update. More work over the weekend. Diff 1st.

Set the diff Centre up, Eaton Tru Trac Locker, new version of Detroit Locker. Took some doing to get the pinion preload right and the Daytona Pinion support needed to be modified to fit the housing.

Housing painted showing brackets for upper control arms, panhard mount, sway bar mount, temp sender and oil cooler line fittings. With the upper arms now added the Panhard rod is for display purposes only so the car looks original. I will be able to use either it or the upper arms, not both together.

Also, started on engine block prep.

Oil restricter kit fitted.

Also, removed casting marks in the valley for the oil to flow back to the sump better and tapped out all the bolt holes

The oil restrictors will sit about 5mm below the surface when finally installed.

Thanks. Yep very happy, just been up with the car, ready for base coat and colours but it's too cold down here in Mexico! The wheels are BBS 15 x 10" all round.

Thanks Jack. The pics don't do it justice. The guards look standard from some angles and flared from others. She would have had colour and clear on it tomorrow if not for the cold weather. Monday now, home Wednesday.

Thanks. I'm trying to have it finished for a track day on Oct 20 so the progress should speed up over the next few weeks. Here's a pic of the interior painted I thought I'd lost and a couple of pics of the front hub assemblies set up. I am making up adapter brackets so the calipers fit, more on that later in the week.

Time for an update. Masking and paint. I'll let the pics do the talking.

Car still needs to be blocked back and polished but I think you get the idea. Suspension and brakes in this weekend.
