Magpie - Does your 5.0 Coyote engine use 500 mls of oil every 1,000 km's like my Sc GT-P did ? As you will probably be aware there's plenty of guys complaining about excess oil consumption on the Mustang forum. Reason enough of its own to opt for the 2.3 turbo engine IMO and that's before we start talking about the handling advantages of the lighter weight engine.

No oil use on mine Rodge, as for handling advantages it's not like the Coyote is a heavy brute of a engine anyway, I couldn't believe how light it felt compared to my 5.4 XR8.

I just couldn't buy 4 cylinder stang.

Can understand the attraction for some, I'm sure it will be a good alternative to the 86/BRZ type of car.

Funny how some people who had a fair crack at the 86 at launch are fine with the EB4 Mustang. Out of the two Id get the 86 if your after ultimate handling and want a 4 pot.

Think I'd want to test drive both before making a call like that.

That's because the engine in the 86 is a gutless POS with 205 nm. The Ecoboost isn't a POS and makes double the torque. The 86 wouldn't know which way the Ecoboost Mustang went, in a straight line and more than likely on a track because the 86 will be so much slower on the straights. Have to wait for road tests to know how it handles but I think it's going to be brilliant at it, especially with the new IRS and rumoured weight reduction of at least 100-150kgs.

I'm a fan of the 86, but don't forget even the ecoboost falcon handed the 86 it's *** at a track test... The mustang will slaughter it.

I don't get the issue some are having with the Ecoboost Mustang. If you think Ford should only make Mustangs in V8 form only, it probably wouldn't be economically viable and would be discontinued. In Australia, we think Mustang is synonymous with V8, but if you got to its homeland, most Mustangs you see aren't V8 models.

4 cylinder Mustangs have been around for donkey's years, I don't see the issue.

Mustang has had 50 years of continuous production because it has always offered an "economy" version. The low-end model has always been the volume seller.

And the EcoBoost model is actually a step up from the base V6. Pricing for the V6 in the US has been announced, by the way: $24,425

Anything feels light compared to one of those boat anchors
Seriously, the new stang will be quite a bit lighter than the Falcon and a fuel efficient twin variable valve timing direct injected 2.3 engine making over 400nm's is going to be a very nice engine in a tight handling fairly lightweight package. You know how many corners there are in N.Z. mate

I don't see the problem with the Ecoboost Mustang, yes its only got half the cylinder count of the V8.

It has a snail hanging off the side of it, as soon as you buy it get it home and order a new intercooler, water/methanol injection kit from devils own, air intake kit, ring up the exhaust shop and book it in for a turbo back exhaust and get new pipes made up out of alloy for the IC and intake, then ring up your local tuning house and get her on the dyno after all your mods are done and cram more air and fuel into it.

This Ecoboost could be the next SR20, just think outside of the square.

My 2011 is over 200kg lighter than a FPV GT so will be interesting to see what the Ecoboost will weigh in at.

I think 4 cylinders are for girls, but if someone else picks one over a V8 then at least it will still be a pretty quick car.
