Id also be waiting to see what the new Google Nexus will bring to the table..

My Iphone4 is starting to get a bit long in the tooth, its nearly 2 years old and starting to get a few issues and Im beginning my research to see what to get next.
I had a HTC before this one and loved it, but have heard a few concerning issues about HTC Velocity's reception if your not on Telstra and have heard HTC are or have ditched the plug in SD memory, for onboard fixed memory which I dont know if I like that idea..

My wording is probably wrong, I should say they don't perform like the HTC equivalent, which brings me to point 2 and 3.

Just flash the international version directly released by samsung. Its the official firmware so you won't lose your warranty, it just won't have the Telstra bloatware that they pile on.

Thats what I've done!

Ahh ok, so stock apps are crap. Makes sense as I do agree. That's why there are many better alternatives on the market!

I would have done that, but I don't really trust myself to not kill the phone :P That and I'm not overly fussed about it, I pretty much only use my phone as a phone but like to have the best one I can at the time which is why I chose the SII
and yeah you will get a whole heap of crap from Telstra when you update it, mine got a heap of useless crap from Optus when I did it.

Yeah, which is why I won't do the update until Telstra releases ICS. Apparently it is meant to be late April/early May.

Don't put that version on unless you want to start hating your phone. I'm finally on ICS (with optus) which is much better than 2.3.6. I was always having resets on 2.3.6..

They are announcing this May 3rd. Apparently they will be releasing a comprehensive cloud system to go with it, which might be a good competitior to iCloud.

I still love my IIs, haven't had any problems, and haven't even had the desire to install a custom ROM, as works pretty well "as is".

Well after 2 days of having ICS running, I hate it.

Facebook app no longer works properly

always has the alarm set notification on the top bar even when all alarms have been deleted, only way to clear it is to set and alarm then delete it, then it returns about an hour later anyway

Shortcut to messages always says I have an unread message, only way to clear it is to delete all my messages, then it comes back as soon as I get a new message and won't go away until I delete them again.

Mine had the same facebook problem. Which version of ICS are you running XXLPJ? Mine works fine on XXLPQ but it had problems on XXLPH and XXLPJ.

Just by going into the setting on the phone - About Phone - Software Update.

Well actually it came up as a notification on the top bar and then took me to there

They're just the codenames Google give to the Android operating systems. Android 4.03 is called Ice Cream Sandwich.

I'm sure there would be some reason behind it (possibly not) but all versions of android are named after a food.

Not sure why

Sucks that you've been having these problems. I uninstalled this battery manager app I got since having ICS and it seems to have fixed my battery issues. Extremely annoying, but when my phone still had 76% battery after being on for 6 hours and having heavy useage with the brightness on full, I'm very happy with that.

That's very good battery life, currently I'm on 42% after 12h 32m with mixed usage but Ive got a 3500mAH battery in there.
It was better a few weeks ago but when I bought the battery I didn't do the cycling properly so it seems to have died a bit lately, when I first got it I could run it for about 32 hours with moderate usage for about 10 of those, light usage for 16 and no usage at all for 8. It would then be on about 5% and begging to be charged.
