In NSW every Whollopers car is an RBT unit, if your pulled out for anything 99.9% of the time they will test you.

I was driving along the Monash Freeway, on the Eastlink off-ramp. I was in the leftmost lane, as I was going to head towards Ringwood on Eastlink. The other off-ramp lane was clear. And it's not like the police couldn't safely pull into the off-ramp and 'pursue' - that lane was clear, and they had enough time to enter the on-ramp. I would have gladly pulled over to let them get the idiot.

But no, they just continued on, as if it's normal for SUVs to swerve all over the road and cause other cars to slam on the brakes to avoid a collision. :

I too have seen something like this. IE an old old blue barina doing a burnout after taking off at lights and a cop car one car behind me (im in left lane, barina in middle with 2 cars behind it) It wasnt a big burnout, but enough to know that he definately meant it. The cop didnt do anything, I just put it down to him finishing his shift or it was to dangerous for him to try.

In vic they must give you a breath test if they pull you over. Even for a warning.

vztrt - not sure where you got that from, but its not true and yet still not every car has a breatho in it in victoria.

A lot of the time when these things happen in front of a police car and they don't do anything its because its just not there department. Just think to yourself though if you were a police officer how sick and tired of dealing with moron's you would get, really you can't blame em.

Think of it this way, a police detective see's a car in front swerving side to side, he pulls them over, he then has to radio up to get a breatho, waits 20min's for another car to arrive with breatho, reads him and blows 0.06, they escort the driver back to the station for the official breath o test, after the 20min trip back and another 20min's of paperwork they give him the breath o and he blow's 0.048, whats that over an hour wasted for nothing.

You could just imagine how often stuff like this would happen and how sick of it they would get.

just begs the question why police heirachy dont just say to the govt" no, we will not enforce this rule unless its fixed and there are no loopholes"

seriously tho i dont want this thread turning into cop bashing again. i was really questioning the efficency of rules such as these. it just seems a total waste of time/effort/ paper.

in the end the cops can only enforce the laws passed by govt.

IMHO, the end of shift/different department arguments don't wash...

Would you expect a fire truck on the way back to the depot for the night to just drive past a burning house?
Is it okay for a doctor to let someone bleed/choke/whatever to death because they're not at work?
Is it okay for a neurosurgeon to let someone die of a heart attack and not administer CPR because that's not his speciality?

The police have it tough - I get that. For the most part, it's a thankless job. The pay stinks. And, like in anything, a few bad apples ruin it for the rest.

I think it's BS that the police are hyping up the anti-hoon hotline (which, from their own numbers, isn't exactly raking in the hoons), and yet police on the road see something dangerous and illegal on the road, and ignore it.

Ok must have got mixed up, I remember hearing it somewhere. And since then I've been breatho'd every time I have been pulled over. Guess I havent been pulled over enough time

I remember seeing the ad on the telly at least a year ago that said every police car now has the ability to perform a random breath test . Every time ive been pulled over that the first thing the do. Actully the say have you been drinking (i say NO ) Blow in this please. I hate that its basically calling you a liar .
