The SS can get the 6.2 but it is still no where near the XR8 with the Rspec kit in comparison. The XR will make 330rwkw or there abouts an the SS will be closer to the XR6T outputs of around 250RWKW. Unless the SS gets the GTS driveline and engine it is not in same league when it comes to performance.

Not to mention the fact that the 5.0 Miami is hand built with pride by the guys down in Geelong as apposed to being hoisted out of a crate form Mexico.

I remember John Carey giving the AU II XR8 220 the nod over the SS back in 2001 or 2002.

When I was thinking S-XR8 or SS back in 1993 I phoned John Carey and had a good chat with him; he recommended the Ford and told me it was a much better car. That was my first V8 Ford - terrific car!!

Imagine, HSV clubsport and r8 will get toasted by GTF, pursuit, FGX xr8, and xr6t ltd edn.

Holden slow vehicles,

as for SS... Hahaha

Time for Holden to start paying the journos some more to talk a bit more about the seats and interior and "refinement"

The ss is more comparible to the xr6 turbo, similar power and almost identical qm times, from what ive seen on youtube anyhow, both ran about 13.0-13.1 at the strip in a grudge race, pretty quick i think.
The ss actually smoked it for most of the 400m but the turbo eventually caught up...
Comparing the new xr8 to the ss is just ridiculous to say the least.

It would seem not.

"The swansong model before Ford's planned manufacturing exit in October 2016 sources 70 per cent of its parts from Australian suppliers – more than any other vehicle built in Australia. As a comparison, about 50 per cent of the current Holden Commodore is made up of locally-sourced content, while the Toyota Camry uses about 65 per cent of Australian components."

Im no holden lover by a long stretch but you cant deny the ss does go well, stock for stock at the traffic lights the holden wins almost every time.
If it had 350 odd kw then id say it would go pretty close to the new xr8.

Aus greatest ford is basically a tarted up yank compact with some mustang bits on it and engine.
Actually you lot should hate ford with a passion, stabbed you in the back and is leaving... taking your culture away.

SS running 13.1 would be rare, my mate who used to have a worked vy and run 11s couldn't get lower than 13.9 in his new stock SS. Meanwhile our other mate in his stock xr6t consistently running low 13s. Plenty auto xr6ts have run 12s stock, so I think you are a bit off saying xr6t is similar. Xr6t has been faster than SS for 12 years straight.

That must be an old article because the current cruze allready uses over 70% imported parts and the commadore was on a fast track to match it at 70% -from 50% imported parts.
I'm sure if ford aus didn't give a single rats about Aussies......they would just import all parts, and crate engines like Holden n hsv!

It's a HUGE difference......70% compared to 30 or 40%.

I don't think it is this clear cut. Some of the car journos that I know personally, that also ride bikes with me from time to time, and can punt pretty well, tell me the Commodore chassis really is something quite brilliant and definitely well ahead of Falcon. I don't know much about Commodores, but I did have a look inside a Clubsport being raffled at a shopping centre recently, and I must say the Clubsport interior really does makes our cars look cheap. Not trying to start arguments, but credit and reality where it is due really.

Both XR8 and SS have their pros and cons. We can argue those till the cows come home. Each to their own taste and style, but what matters is that in years to come, both brands will be easily recognised on the roads as Aussie legendary icons.
I bet there are countless young kids today itching to get behind the wheel of a XR8 or SS and who will get that opportunity in 10 or 20 years time. When buyers look for second hand XR8 or SS in 2025, will they care what the interior looks like or whether one is better than the other? Probably not.
I dont know about some of you guys, but when I look at muscle cars from 1967-72, I look at Ford, GM and Chrysler, both Oz and US, and respect and admire each brand for what they are.

For sure, I do have a slight preference for Fords, but overall I am far from one eyed. And I don't get the whole infantile red-v-blue ford-v-holden tribalism thing. They are just both American corporations at the end of the day.

Yeah like my 12 year old son. I sprung him the other night in the GTF with the radio on, practicing his gear changes while making the rev, rev sounds

Ah the apple didn't fall far from the tree. But back when i did it, it was only a 3 speed. 4 speed if I had a good imagination plus I didn't have to try and add in the supercharger whine and crackle, crackle when braking

err....so when Holden is nearing their shutdown should we say to you ...you lot should hate Holden with a passion, stabbed you in the back, bled the Australian people double the money of any car manufacturer and is leaving while Ford will still employ 1000+ people.....and our culture is shared with products being bought throughout the whole world.... Do you really enjoy trying to bait that much....life is too short and maybe you should reflect on why you come here trying to do so.

You get an HSV when you're gay or a druggie sharing needles, or so I remember from school.
