The TB and upper manafold arent installed yet i dont believe Shane. From what i saw Phil Tapped the EGR spacer to accept the bolts from the EGR to allow him to have the EGR pluged into the loom to avoid fault codes. Throttle cables havent been hooked up yet as of 11:30pm last night.

yeah i'm getting there. everythings together. just waiting for a set of plug leads. picking up my hi-flow cats tomorrow, and its booked in for the new exhaust next thursday. will crank it over after the karts this saturday. heres a coupla pics to show where i'm at. the close up of the intake piping shows the adaptor Shane's (MrLandau) dad made up to fit the ACT sensor (air temp sensor), as the Explorer manifold didn't have a fitting on t for the sensor. and i can get rid of that ugly dog-crap looking bit.

How did you go with the mass of vacuum hoses? The diffrence between the HO and Explorer vacuum trees didnt pose a problem did it?

Lee, do you work fri nights? or just sat? It's booked in at D & T exhaust for its new system next thursday, got thurs and fri off, but havin a few drinks at home on the sat nite, so i won't be out driving lol.

Dan, I still have to get the two small vacuum hoses on to the one big vac fitting on the manifold, will sort that today (friday)

Yagz, i'm leaving it as it is in the above pic for a few weeks, then i'll get a stainless pipe made up with a fitting underneath fot the ACT sensor. then i'll get it fully polished ;)

started the engine in the car. and, its ****ed.
going by the movement in the harmonic balancer, the crank snout is bent.
and there are various loud knocking sounds coming from within.

soooooo i'm a little bit ****ed off right now......

pulling the motor back out tonite/tomorrow. talking to the wrecker monday......

looking at a couple of options, depending on how the wrecker wants to play. I don't really want to give them the motor back as its now got ported GT40P's, plus the explorer manifold, so we shall see what happens.

i feel like smashing something.......

Do you know what car it came out of? IE did you see what sort of damage it had?

Get them to pay for the stroker bottom end now.....

was only told it came from a fire damaged car. they didn't say it was smacked up. didn't see the car there. it didn't have a balancer or water pump on it when i bought it, i just assumed that they took them off because i said i'll use my EF parts. (its an AU motor)

a quick update...

rang the wrecker, he wouldn't beleive that there was something wrong with it. After a fair bit of discussion he said bring it back so they can check it out before they warranty it. so there is a bit of hope there....

in the meantime, i pulled the GT40P's and explorer manifold off the AU motor, and fitted them to the original motor, and slotted it back in the car. Many thanks to Dan (Walkinshaw) who stayed to help till 5am saturday morning to get it finished.
it got thrashed up and down the street a few times saturday with no bonnet or exhaust. some of my neighbours found it amusing, some didnt lol.
its booked in for its exhaust on thursday, t a different exhaust place, after the the place it was originally supposed to go to rang me and tried to get me to get a single 3" instead of a twin 2.25" because "its too hard to fit a twin". pffft. the new place is doing what i want, and cheaper. and the manager has a lowered EB Fairmont 5litre, he gave me the keys and said "have a listen to that", i said "put the same as that on my car".
so it looks like it will make the all ford day after all lol.

geeze, so much for "a quick update"......

Hope it all works out for ya phil. Just wondering, why change to the AU bottom end then if the heads etc. were yours, or did you get that all with the AU bottom end, and you are only returning the bottom end to the wrecker?

i started off with buying a complete AU long engine from the wrecker, took the heads off, had them ported, put them back on, put the motor in the car, it made real bad knocking noises (bearings, big-end ones i think), took the motor out, put the heads and manifold onto my original EF motor's short block, put that in the car.

the AU short block is going back to the wrecker so they can check it out before they decide if they will warranty it. as i kept the top end of the motor, i'm only trying to get around half of what i originally paid back.
that, and i didn't want the heads going back to them after being freshly ported, and them stuff me around.
