Turbo diesel commo?

Holden have always had a 'concept' on display at a motor show, to draw attention away from Ford...whilst ford has had bugger all, Except for the R5 (and R7)and 300+

Thought that it was strange to be in melb but it didn't have those wavy things on the bottom of the doors, that's why i thought it might be a commodore

My guesses,

1. HSV commodore with the LS9 (supercharged 6.2), not the 7.0 as the 6.2 has a wet sump and will fit in the commodore bay easier.

2. torana...in some form

3. Cadillac CTS-V

On another note,
am i the only one that thinks Fords marketing team should be sacked and replaced? or is this a commen feeling within the AFF.
It's about time Ford stop playing catch up and start to lead the Australian market.

"GENERAL Motors global product boss Bob Lutz has revealed that Holden is putting the finishing touches on a concept car to be shown at the Melbourne International Motor Show next month.

Not wishing to steal Holden’s thunder, Mr Lutz would not give any details away about what the concept might be, other than to say that it is one of the best he has ever seen. “(Holden) are working on a design down there that is going to knock everybody’s socks off,” Mr Lutz said. “And I am extremely proud of the design. It will emerge as one of GM Holden’s proudest
moments. It is really terrific.” A Holden spokesperson refused to elaborate.
That statement would suggest that it will top Monaro (pretty good), Torana (pretty good), and EFJIY (stunning). I understand is purely a concept car, probably cobbled together in Holden skunkworks just to show they can.

But personally I hope its a production Torana with TT Diesel.

I thought of the twin turbo torana, but wasn't expecting diesel, I thought it was a V6. But then again i know SFA :

I reckon it looked alright, but that picture isn't much good. I mean look at the wheelbase? What sedan based ute has a 5 metre wheelbase...

it WILL upstage the Falcon then.....

Seriously though, it wont just be an engine because how do you make an engine stand out in the crowd at a motor show? You dont.

It will be something different, perhaps the Torana - which they have already said is going to be built - or maybe, just maybe a new Crewman type Ute thing but about a metre shorter than that chop in the pic above (yuk)

Whatever it is it will have to be an eye catcher, otherwise it will just be another "so what?" to the average punter who sees it emblazoned across the front page of the various motoring publications

If its a concept, it would only be the first one. The second has been done and the CTS-V is actually coming to oz

I heard that the twin turbo diesel wasnt due to the sydney motor show but if holden wants to out do ford they will release it early. If its Ready that is.
If its put in a production ready torana then that would get a lot of attention.
Also a possibility is direct injection for the V6's.

Latest Street Machine mag has a feature of a LC GTR and on pg 69 there is a small write up titled "MO JO WORKING". It shows a little detailed history of the torry and sums up by stating "Now there's a strong chance that Holden will re-introduce the name on a car with a similar mid-sized, rear drive platform and mojo!

If its a concept or show car it won't need to have a motor in it, they could just tell everyone what they're gonna put in it.

For the sake of impact its gotta be the Torana, there isn't really much else that Holden has thats at the Monaro concept car level, well not from Australia anyway (bring on the Camaro!)

HSV will likely be releasing a couple of things.

- The new GenIV that has to replace all current HSV LS2 6.0L before June30th. It is called the LS3 and is a 6.2L with new cylinder heads and ~325kw.

- HSV Estate Wagon may be released.

- You can bet that HSV held back the GTS-R with LS7 from the Sydney Motor Show to try and steal the attention from the Orion

You can pretty much guarantee that Holden will officially release the VE Wagon at MMS.

Torana.... not likely.

Camaro, maybe as a pure promo vehicle to gauge viability.

The VE wagon and ute range has only just been released... so i'd reckon they'd hold out on special editions on both for a while yet.

Camaro import is in the works isn't it? might be 1-2 years away yet though. *shrugs

Can't tell if this had been mentioned:

From www.autoblog.com

Australian outlet GoAuto is reporting that GM Car Czar Bob Lutz has confirmed that a four-door ute concept based on Holden's rear-wheel-drive Zeta platform but wearing a GMC badge will debut at the New York Auto Show in late March. From Bob's description, the vehicle is much like the Holden Crewman, which was a version of the Holden Ute with its wheelbase stretched to accommodate a second row of seats and two more doors (all-wheel-drive was also eventually an option).

The concept debuting in Detroit will be wearing very masculine GMC styling cues, however, and sounds as if it will be billed as a unibody pickup. This gives the GMC four-door ute a good shot at production since GM knows that demand for trucks in the future has to be satisfied with vehicles that are more fuel efficient than body-on-frame trucks. A recent spate of unibody truck concepts like the Toyota A-BAT Concept and Ford Explorer America Concept show that automakers are very interested in switching to lighter unibody platforms for vehicles that have traditionally been truck-based.

Lutz also points out the obvious upside that if the GMC four-door ute is popular with the public, it can be sold in Australia as Holden's replacement for the Crewman, which wasn't updated along with the rest of the Ute lineup last year.

You'd be a bit silly to think that a Crewman will upstage the Orion. This will be something in the league of "Effigy". It might be there but I doubt its going to be thier "ace" card.

Thats based on the original article of course. I have very low expectations when it comes to Australian Motor shows.

Wait a second........wasn't there a big hurrah about 'the biggest event in HSV's twenty year history" and it wasn't it just a new coloured Clubsport??

i think Holden have taken a leaf out of FPV's book and applied hyperboles to new stripe packages.

Bob Lutz has said it will be a technological showcase, so it won't be a Torana, GTS-R or Crewman. Might be something similar to Toyota's Sportivo concept of a few years ago, a futuristic look forward. Probably running a hybrid powertrain.
