hmm.. I see.. you deal with the Jaycar dealer.. the shep 'jaycar' as you say is not actually a jaycar store.. they jus order in from the catalogue.. thats why my ears pricked up when you said that jaycar was going to remove it for you as any repair like that is against jaycar rules..

Have you reverse phased the subs you have reverse mounted.. if not then the 2 normal mounted will cancel out the 2 reverse mounted and whole lot will sound like a 8"..

Also, i can see the 2 side boxes are ported but wat bout the back one is it ported or sealed??

Looking good though.. Definately on the way..

Cheers,
Nik

ah ok yeah i think they are just a jaycar stockist maybe. oh ok so have you removed the sonic beep from your capasators Nik?

about that.. how do i reverse phase the subs because as you just said the reversed 2 subs are not going anywere near as hard as they should be... so how do i phase them?

the back box is sealed as i baught it fom autobarn way back when i was only going to have 2 subs..

thanks man.

cheers troy

oh i've got a 640W 4ch amp running the back 2 subs and that behind the back seat mounted on the back of the box. and a 750W 4ch running the side 2 subs wich is behind te box on the right hand side of the boot.

yeah i thoug i'd port the side ones just to see how it sounded and it sounded great so i left it at that.

cheers troy

i've just got my gear all together too. 2x Kenwood KFC W3009 subs in separate sealed boxes, and a brand new Jaycar Response 800W Monoblock amp to run 350w through each sub.

i got the same amp as Simmo has. gives me 135dB in a sealed box.

my brother had 1 10" in a sealed box. sounded really really good. when he upgraded to 2 12" in ported box..... well it just aint the same. and yes he got a bigger amp too.

i cut holes for ports, sat down and listened to it. and covered the holes. sealed boxes give good vibrations and great sound. ported just give the sound.

just wot i think

Hey,

Yer i gave my 2 2farad caps a "buzzectomy".. i have also done it for a few mate.. its very easy if ya have a soldering iron and 15 mins..

To reverse phase either use the phase control on your amp that runs the 2 side subs or simply switch there terminals around..

So for example in your car to wire all the subs "in-phase" would require you to have the ones in the kenwood box wired up + to +, - to -, and the 2 side subs would get wired + to -, - to +.. Worth a try.. it may improve the bass response of the subs.. but then again you have got the 2 side boxes firing at each other so you may get cancellation of sound just from that..

Oh and as for the age-old debate "ported vs. sealed".. it is one of those personal preference things but i myself have converted from being a ported pansy to being a sealed sissy.. lol.. generally in a sealed enclosure you require twice the power to achieve the same "loudness" as the same driver in a ported box.. but with sealed you do et that awesome punch rather than a fluffy fart..

Cheers,
Nik

thanks for that Nik yer i got rid of the beep myself with the soldering iron yesterday

oh so just to clarafy.... on the subs put the + to the - terminals?? and it might sound better? because they arn't throwing very good...:(

yeah just personal choise i chose it to see if it is ok and well it good enough for me.

cheers troy

yeah for reversed subs hook em up the "wrong" way around. when u do this they will move toward the boot lid instead of into the box. my mate had to do this in his supra. has 3 mounted normally and 2 reversed. he showed me the difference and its noticible... to me anyway.

lol no. his back one is pre fab & sealed. i very much doubt they will be of same volume. i doubt he will ever get them sounding exactly the same as he is using 2 different lots of subs and 2 different amps in different boxes

When i said reverse it i mean run the + on the sub to the - on the amp and vice versa.. rather than + on sub to + on amp and vice versa.. easiest way to do it is just swap the wires on each reversed sub around..

Cheers,
Nik

mmmm...i'd be interested to hear how it sounds. You'll be having some pretty different frequency response curves going on there..
