Yes that's the way its been done for years.. however more than ever Factory Musclecars are soaring in popularity yet GT Club memberships are on the decline.. ?
For what ever reason more and more people dont want to join a club or more alarmingly don't want to stay a member of a club, yet more and more Cars are coming out of sheds and barns that havent been seen in 20 years, maybe its time to change the rules.... If clubs are looking for new membership maybe an open Nationals event would be a great place to promote yourself?

How did you come up with 10%? Sounds low to me. Maybe if you count BAs and BFs it might be right. In any case I can't wait for this one! It should be a great event. Cheers Stefan....one or the 10%ers.... |

how many members are in the nsw club? the FGTCOA would be lucky to crack 100 members.. add them up, im guessing there would be lucky to be 6-700 members combined nationally.. that's roughly 10% of the 6-7000 GT's still alive.. cheers.

If club membership's are on the decline and certain club's are looking to introduce themselves and get more member's and get their number's on the incline, maybe they should look at the reason why their memnbership's are on the decline.

there are other reasons why some aren't members.
i for one are not, but i live/work overseas and my car stays in the shed in australia ;) i wasn't impressed having to become a member just to park my car on the oval at ballarat, when they let others who were not members park around the oval!! but each to their own. i guess i would join a club if i was in an area where there were alot of other cars/members though, i have met a heap of great people through the gt scene. would love to be at adelaide, but not sure if i'll be able to get the time. |

Yep, I would be assuming the T Series, GS, Goss and Cobra Hardtops would be in the Associate Class.

As long as it's a compliance plated GT, it will be allowed at the Nats.
There are a few classes which in can fit into. And don't forget, you must be a GT Club member.

That was due to the lack of participants from the GT owners to drive their cars on the track. The "drive day " was opened up to anyone who wished to utilise track time, this also reduced the costs of entering the "drive day" for those who were game enough to try out the "Barbs" circuit in their GT's :sm_headba :sm_headba

unfortunately when i was younger i went to a gt day in a GT. I had just rebult my first car. I fill in forms and headed down to melbourne. I got there and parked down the carpark. I went up and notified the people i was there. It wasn't until i went down through to start the rally i was pulled up and asked why i was there. I told them it was a gt and all papers to prove it was since purchased in 1970. He laughed and told me to wait. The president rolled up and said there was some mistake and that it was a GT DAY. AND YES I WAS DRIVING A GT. then he looked on my forms and it was dated 8 months ago and it was aproved to come to the event. Then i was told that i was not to engage in the rally and i was to get my money back.
My grandfather was with me at the time due to me being 17 and i was not keen to tackle the mel traffic alone. He being in motor restoring for the past 55 years was shocked and dismayed with the organiser and him being religious says we better do as they say. I had to be picked up off the ground. 4 years and all night working after school at a supermarket for this car to be told that admin failed in there attempt to phase out MK1 ESCORT GT 1970 out of there bi-laws and tried to tell me it was a falcon gt day. but on there form it said gt and any gt could come as long as it was geniuie( spelling). But as i looked at there bi-laws and there from it had nothing on it was advertised in a small fords mag. If you think i was depressed, i was. A letter came to me about 1 month later to tell me i was polite and was thanked for understanding for the situation. They created it and thanked me. SInce then i am always asking questions about rallys and etc. Now owning a T3, i was shocked to see a t3 there at the show and shine and etc in the gt nations in perth this year. Thats is why i asked a question to the club hosting it. If perth couldnt get cars to the event to fill spots. It does raise questions about the event. It does to me. the riley car club of nsw will only have cars that are rileys. No exceptions at all. even to fill numbers up. they don't allow it to happen. I just bring up a valid point. ALso that event i was not allowed to go to was in 1999. cheers

I think what happened is as follows, alot of people drove their cars to Perth ( and good on them, that is getting the cars out in public, & is what it's all about!!!) Some people had mechanical drama's getting their cars over here, & elected not to participate on the track day. Others who have their cars insured for a small fortune would not risk their cars on the track. (Even though thats what these cars were built for!!!) So the event was opened up for anybody who wished to participate on the "track day" only. All things considered it was a very successful event. It's along way to drive your GT from the east coast to the west coast & drive it home again!!! :

Event planning for the 2009 Falcon GT nationals is progressing very well and full event details will be released after the National Association of Falcon GT Clubs delegates meeting being held in March '08.
The Falcon GT Nationals in Adelaide 2009 will welcome all Falcon GT owners and there cars as well as other ford performance orientated vehicles from the past and present. There are always additional classes at the show'n'shine or driving events for non Falcon GT's, not to boost the numbers but because there are many Falcon GT owners with other performance Fords that might not have there GT available during the time of the event. The event occasionally asks other motoring clubs to assist in the running of event activities and welcomes there members to participate where appropriate. As a side note to this thread and any others posted on the 2009 Falcon GT Nationals link, please contact the Falcon GT Club of South Australia via its web site or the 2009 Nationals web site for answers to specific questions about your own vehicle eligibility or interest in attending. As this thread is a public forum not all views/comments/opinions will be those of the organising committee of the 2009 Falcon GT Nationals. |

We have created a stand alone web site at www.falcongtnationals2009.com.au for the sole purpose of promoting this event.
There is a link to send emails on the home page also for your convenience. Regards Ben.

So is this being held at AIR?
Has anyone thought about holding it at the Victoria Park racecourse and using part of the Clipsal track eg.mainstraight start/finish? I would be considering this due to there being access via the city and walking distance from bustops etc. email the adelaide city council and send through what it is you wish to do and whether you are able to camp onsite over those days, or if people wish to they can stay in the motel/hotels close by. city@adelaidecitycouncil.com |

A.I.R is on top of the list for motorsport activities at the moment. Vic Park is a great spot but as the Clipsal 500 is usually being set up or dismantled during Easter unfortunately we usually can not use this area.
The HQ for the 13th Falcon GT Nationals is in the city and accommodation details can be found here; http://www.falcongtnationals2009.com...ommodation.htm Entry forms are also now available: http://www.falcongtnationals2009.com...ry%20forms.htm
