Question Need advice please

Hi Guys,

Well, a lot can change in a week! In my last post I said I wasn't changing anything on my Cougar & was happy with it just the was it is....... :

Hubby picked up a new BF II SR last night complete with body kit & spoiler. Damn it looks good :

Anyway, now I want a body kit & spoiler on my car too so I need some help guys. I really like the look of the Wings West kits that Dan & Angelo have on their cars but as Dan has already informed me there is not an Australian importer for them any more. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Melissa.

Dear Petal,

The Eibach models came with a Visteon Body Kit if you look at the pics of my car you will see what it looks like. The only way you can get ANY sort of kit for your vehicle is to import one. As I am a customs broker this is no problem for me to organise for you.

Suggest you do some research on the net as there are a variety of kits available from the USA. A good place to start is here: http://www.newcougar.org/

You will be able to see what is available and some of the things the yanks have done to their Cougars. Also quite often body kits come up on Ebay so register with them and then log onto the USA site for ebay and search for Mercury Cougar and you will see all the parts come up. It might take a little while but be patient and you will get what you want.

This web site has a complete range of kits including the Wings West kits:

http://www.andysautosport.com/mercury/1999_2002_cougar/

Let me know how you get on and remember for shipments under A$1000.00 there is no customs duty and no GST once you go over this limit then you have to pay 10% customs duty and 10% gst plus a lot of other charges.

The only other problem you will have is that the shipping cost will be high because any kit is going to be quite bulky but get a price from the supplier and you can make an informed decision.

Melissa,

check out www.cougardb.com as well for inspiration for your car. I think a lot of the Cougar kits are out of production now, but you could follow Dave's advice and find a nice one somewhere. Just be aware of which kits are made for which model as well. Eg, Mine and Angelo's front bumpers won't fit (easily) on the 99-00 models, and Angelo has a different rear bumper to mine.

The Roush kit is another popular one which shares similarities to the Wings West in appearance.

Not sure on your chances of sourcing the Eibach/Visteon spoiler from Ford, but there might be some out there - at a price!

Let us know how you go with it

Dan

Had my cat in at the atx specialist yesterday as I just knew there was something wrong with my transmission. In Drive it was Ok and changed and went through the gears Ok but it just didn't sound right. Also when it was in Park and particulary so when in Reverse it was giving off this sort of coarse vibration sound.

OH, OH (thinks Dave) problems ahead (BIG $$$$$).

Thankfully though the transmission just needed a service new fluid etc. and it appears I need a new engine mount. Apparently what is happening is that when in P or D the engine is flexing back on the mount and touching the body somewhere thus causing the problem.

Huge relief !!!

Will order from Rockauto and see how we go.

Interesting point you've brought up there... I always thought the Cougar's were completely German, much like the new Mondeo. However, while German designed, they were actually put together in the US - at least, some of them were. Mine, for example rolled off the production line in the US, even though the VIN number suggests it's German.

yep, i think they were built part int he US and part in Germany. They wouldn't have the factory plate for Germany unless it had gone through there. pretty silly u'd think. However, i believe the 'build' quality shows this, where the american cats interior seems to fall apart lol. Our ones are from the German plant. "Nein nein nein, you can look at it gently!"

Cougar-Boy I haven't discussed the engine mount repair with my mechanic yet but I am thinking I will probably get both of them done.

As it happens I have just been discussing the German content in Euro-Cougars like ours here

http://www.newcougar.org/forums/gene...a-germany.html

But I don't think I have the whole story yet I think there is more information to be had. Hopefully one of the yanks will have the whole story if not there is a UK forum that might be able to fill in the gaps.

Hey guys, long time no post...
I been crazy busy with uni :( Doing over 70hrs a week for the past 4 months...
I'm almost dead, and my kitty hasn't been washed in at least 2 months, she actually starting to look sad, I'm going to have to give her a good scrub asap...
Dan, I love looking at your pictures, that black just looks awesome.
I'm not sure if any of you guy's have ever been to Bendigo, but there is this road we call "one tree hill", I needed to "de-stress" so kitty and I just went for a spin. This road is full of tight turns on an insane incline and is easily the most exillerating drive in Victoria... (actually I should do the whole strap a video camera to the dash thing and take u guys for a spin next time), in conclusion I've just got back, I'm pumped with adrenalin and thought I'd check out whats been happening on the old forum... looks like I've got some catching up to do.
Cheers
RicK

Welcome back Rick! Maybe we could all post up some 'driving roads' where we've had fun with our kitties? One Tree Hill doesn't look too bad, though I think Google Maps diminishes alot of the fun as it's basically an aerial view... hang on, is there a street view version?

No...

Dammit! hahahahahaha... Well, in Sydney we have Hawkesbury-Springwood Rd, Galston Gorge and the Old Pacific Hwy among some others. Too bad they're either full of tourists with caravans, Police and stupid speed limits to be enjoyed to their fullest!
