I went through this a while ago.

AUDI A4
Pros: Extremely comfortable, very smooth, turbo diesel goes well
Cons: Turning circle like an oil tanker with only one prop, servicing can be expensive

BMW 335i
Pros: FAAAAST, comfortable, sporty handling
Cons: can be thirsty, price, price of options

BMW 325i
Pros: goes well, comfortable, less thirsty
Cons: price of options

Merc C200 (ended up with one of these)
Pros: goes well, comfortable, good fuel economy, servicing not TOO expensive and price was much cheaper than the others (standard not eleg or avant)
Cons: its a bloody mercedes, only real estate agents and other criminals drive them

The merc has been great, it just cruises along without any stress whatsoever although I hardly ever drive it personally as it is a mercedes and only union leaders and other criminals drive mercedes......

Agreed! I am a BMW person through and through but the new(ish) C is unreal.

As you say, with a body kit and the sports rims its the best looking sedan on the road. Even the wagon looks horn with the sports kit.

Does it have to be new? Second hand E55 AMG's are pretty cheap these days!

Early this year, we were looking for the missus a new car
Drove the BMW 1 and 3 series, the merc C class, Audi A4
got a C Class
The BMW were a killer in price once you added a option or 2
Wife is rapt in her C class, and a happy wife makes me a happy man
I agree with flappist, they are awesome on the road, just stick like glue
we are just lucky in Tasmania, not many union leaders,. and real estate agents and criminals are too poor down here to have MErcs, usually bogandores

That's the problem with BMW on four wheels and on two, they want to charge you extra for air in the tyres....

Still though, presence wise and the whole show, I just can't like a Merc. Well unless it is an AMG Merc :-)

My wife is on her third Merc. We just traded her A200 on a B200 turbo. For her as a shopping car, and to get do a school run, its great. Plenty of room inside, all the mod cons, and even has the automatic reverse parking thing. At 140kw, its no slouch. There is some very good pricing at the moment with demonstrators.

We had a look at the 3 class BMW's, but the pricing of the options put us off.

I just traded my CLK earlier this year. Had it for 5 years, and it was a very comforatable car, and went great - but no sports car. The Porsche that now replaces it it is more a drivers car.

If the AMG C63 isnt one of the sweetest sounding cars, I dont know what is
they sound awesome, however the wife didnt want a C63, said it wasnt necessary

I had totally forgotten about the Jag XF (prob cause I dont ever see myself affording a $100,000 car).

I have read a bunch of reviews and they say the the XF is as good as the BMW's and Mercs with enough good looks (inside and out) to make even the woman on Holywoods red carpet snear with envy!

Its got to be the best looking 4 door luxo sports car out at the moment (ok thats my opinion).

Okay boys..

I just spent the last 3 hours at Mercedes and BMW.. Drove the C220 at MB of Brisbane as that was the best they had, dissapointed with the fact they didnt have a C280(300) but i was pretty dissapointed in the 220.. Hate the idea of foot handbrakes, the controls in it were fussy and annoying so i walked away from their pretty dissapointed. Went over to Brisbane BMW and they had a demo 323i with M kit, Vision Pack, 18 inch wheels, front park assist.. Took this baby for a drive and was impressed from the word go, its comfy, has enough power and is reasonable on petrol. Plus they are doing big deals on 323i's at the moment so looking at roughly 70 kay drive away.. Havent made the final decision yet but I think this car will be the one. Drove a 325i and could hardly tell the difference as far as power went too, plus the pricing difference makes the 323i alot cheaper!

Audi A6 - Gotta love 3.0L Turbo and AWD.

You should be able to get a very nice specced brand new one for under $100g

Otherwise Jaguar XF, but yeah that more expensive. Id suggest a Lexus IS250, ive driven the top line one and its a very nice car; but well its not actually a Euro and its not lightning quick, but is much better than your mid spec 3 series, A4's and C class'

Hey mate.

Centenary have one but I dont think ill even bother going and looking at it. I just think the C class is too fussy inside for me (and her). The BMW was sorta love at first for me, i felt more in home in it then I did in the Merc (coming from a Ford man lol).

Must post pics when you get it man. Im a fan of high class luxury vehicles. Mainly Audi's but certainly like the BMW's and merc's.

Jag XF - not interested due to the size of it..

Its a nice car but good luck getting one under $100,000

I am quiet suprised at the 323i for the price with the options i want on it!!

Agree with you on the AUDI A6 as a candidate. They are awesome cars, my brother has one and I would be quite happy sitting in that everyday.

Yeh I'd say go for one of these too.

Does it have to be a sedan Brent as I found the back of the 335i coupe to have nearly as much leg room as the sedan (tell your mum the coupe is better for posing in too, if she insists on having a sedan)? Really not into the shape of the new 3 series sedan. The coupes on the other hand look awesome. Seen plenty of near new 335i's at the auctions for under 100k too due to GFC.

Does she really have to spend near 100K? A Honda Accord Euro is a beautiful car that would suit a middle aged lady, I am aware they are Japanese but it's very short sighted to purchase a car just because it is european?
