Below is not aimed at you Franco Cozzo and if it comes off that way,
I unreservedly apologise in advance, that was not my intention.


The days of buyers walking into a dealership and expecting this or that option
right now or I go down the road are well and truly in the rear vision mirror.

Right or wrong, the issues caused by covid disruption of supply has taught manufacturers
across many industry sectors to leave end users “hungry” by not over supplying products
and paying excessive warehouse charges.

It’s bad enough that you can’t get a vehicle as quickly as 2019 but consider
people who can’t get a guaranteed supply of medicine, or folks who can’t get
a house build because of shortages or long lead times. Problems area are not
Restricted to vehicles, everyone is taking a dump on end user/buyers and it stinks
that we are all taking it in the butt.

Warehouse charges are the least of their worries. They have giant factories that have a lot of fixed overheads, that need to be producing in order to cover those costs. Right now, there is a degree of withholding stock to maintain premium pricing, and a lot of consumers itching to spend regardless of prices asked. That wont last forever. same as they do now. it's already not really about the powerpack and the driving dynamics. its all about interior features, touchscreen controls, comfort and apps.

There will be a shift to leasing / hire whereby the manufacturers own them, you just pay a subscription for the use. How far that goes is anyone's guess. It could get to the point where we all just rely on an uber type service and these cars just live on the road.

I personally wouldn't like to be a part of this model and share a car with anyone else.

Hertz still purchase/lease an enormous amount of Corolla’s,they are the backbone of their fleet. Toyota’s in general make up quite a bit of the fleet.

Over the past decade, Ford has found that a lot of those so called “fixed overheads” can in fact be considered variable if managed that way. A lot of those plants now have supply contracts negotiated with penalty clauses and labour contracts now have stand down provisions for varying wages, lectric power is variable on power consumed, local taxes paid are variable, the list goes on…

Just in time building only works when you have a stable supplier base that isn’t constantly being affected by external factors like covid interruptions as is the case with Chinese suppliers.

The warehousing charges I speak of are a factor with other goods and medicines supplied to Australia as dependant on constant shipping and supply from overseas manufacturers. Prior to 2020, a lot of those imported goods and medicines were supplied in greater amounts and stored in warehouses to avoid the ebb and flow of stock we see today.

A lot of home buyers are still on fixed interest some are on those rates for up to the next three years, so while some will have interest rate shock, many will avoid that.

We need to stop looking at monthly car sales numbers as an indication of sales achieved last month and recognise that it’s more about just delivering and registering vehicles that have been ‘sold’ months in advance, some models are six months wait others are well over a year or two away.

I would suspect so since supply from Europe seems to be a dribble these days…..
Pity Ford wouldn’t ship redundant manufacturing equipment to Thailand, Focus
and Fiesta would do well in our region with the right models and accessory mix.


Such a shame that Ford won’t entertain RHD manufacture of LHD models like the
Bronco Sport and Maverick Ute, those two would probably be good sellers in our
market as well as New Zealand and South Africa.

But there I go dreaming again……

American utes aren't going too badly, add in Silverado and RAM 1500 together and it's close to VDJ79 numbers which is in the same price bracket.

Read the comment section on car expert about American utes. So many but hurt people over others wanting a car that size

I had a bloke at work complain about them and that a smaller car would do the job. I asked what car him and his wife drove as it’s just the two of them. He said a rav 4. I told him that they should only need a Yaris and they are taking up too much room on the road. He just walked away
