thanx for all the new info
does that mean the breakdowns are like this
4.9 auto 1
4.9 manual 100
4.9 auto/power steering/air-conditioning 59
4.9 auto/power steering/air-conditioning/power windows 40
5.8 manual -Option 97 30
5.8 manual 1
5.8 manual/air-conditioning/power steering 10
5.8 manual/air-conditioning/power steering/ power windows 39
5.8 auto/air-conditioning/power steering/power windows 120

and in this order

cobra no. 1
4.9 auto (1)
cobra no. 2-31
5.8 manual – option 97 (30)
cobra no. 32-41
5.8 manual/air-conditioning/power steering (10)
cobra no. 42-80
5.8 manual/air-conditioning/power steering/power windows (39)
cobra no. 81-200
5.8 auto/air-conditioning/power steering/power windows (120)
cobra no. 201-300
4.9 manual (100)
cobra no. 301-350
4.9 auto/power steering/air-conditioning (59)
cobra no. 351
5.8 manual (1)
cobra no. 352-360
4.9 auto/power steering/air-conditioning (59)
cobra no. 361-400
4.9 auto/power steering/air-conditioning/power windows (40)

it has been a great thread - learnt something new

i never disbelieved the info about no. 1 and 351, but was a little sceptical. however being one of the most exclusive model runs ever, you would expect everyone who still owned one to know every last detail about them, so i certainly thought there could be some truth to it

You still got it wrong! I think 32-80 or so are 351 4 speed air steer and fast glass.
It does my head in trying to work it out and I have given up! That blue is bright.

Rumour has it there are two Cobra's both with the Cobra 001 glove box plaque (which incidently can be purchased from a parts re-seller in Sydney).

The factory produced No.1 Cobra that was used for the promotional photo shoots, etc has the vin number JG65UM00001K which is correct and information I have shows it was last known to be located in WA.

I am told the one in Orange has a different Vin number and I would be interested to confirm the Vin number of this vehicle. When I last spoke to the owner he could not tell me the vin number of his vehicle and said the ID plates were locked away in a safe. I know I can tell you the vin number of all 400 XC Cobra's without looking at any compliance plate or listing.

It would be great to finally settle the rumours that surround some of these cars.

Bathurst Cobra No 6 is another with a chequed history, I have personally inspected this one and there was a lot not as per factory spec, it had auto trans, standard Cobra interior, standard inner rear wheel arches, no thermo fans, standard fuel tank, factory mounting for washer bottle on RH shocker tower as per XB's and XC coupe up to 1977 production. In 1978 washer bottle was re-located to LH inner skirt and mount on RH shocker tower deleted. I was told that Bathurst Cobra 6 was seen many years ago in the front of a wreckers in Dandenong after it was burnt out and was being offered for sale with a 1977 XC coupe parked next to it.

Cobra 360 to 400 details are correct. Thats what my big 302 had. Lovely powersteering, Super quick and smooth power windows and Ice Cold Airconditioning which was always great for one day of the year that we called summer in Ballarat...............

I reckon there would be alot of cars out there like that Bathurst Cobra, XC2door, When back in the 80's etc. the attention to detail was not like it is today. If you owned any Cobra I am sure you would know your VIN off the top of your head. (You would have to know it if you were an enthusiast anyway).

I owned 189 about 10 years ago.It was 351,auto with everything and had 200ks on it back then.I haven't seen it since I sold it.

I nearly bought a white XC Fairmont coupe about 5 years ago.Last time I saw it was in a workshop in Ballarat sitting next to a terminally rusty genuine 302 Cobra. Two cars went in.One car came out.......

That could be Cobra 372, when I last saw it (2004) it had been under a tarp for years and was extremely rusty. I was told it had been bought by someone in Ballarat who had another XC coupe that may be used to rebuild 372. I was later told 372 was being restored using the original shell. Will be interesting to see it when / if it re-appears.

#342 was a write off, long gone. He only has the glovebox placard for sale from it.
That was the reply from the guy selling the placard on E-bay anyway. It had a major head on with a Landcruiser.
