Don't worry...we "drive a Mitsi" and we don't get it either...
Got a feeling it's the same numpties in an advertising agency somewhere who once saw a car out the bus window and have heard that some people "like" cars, but really have no idea deep down... Same mob that advised Ford to start calling the Ranger ute the American-style term "truck" with every second word and were behind the stupid "Are You Serious?" Kuga TV ad recently... |

My guess is they've probably employed a bunch of pajeros to make their advertisments.

They have to do something as the "Mitsubishi" doesnt turn heads so they have invested an annoying add. As someone who HAD a Magna as a company car years ago, worse car I ever had & not owned. I hate the add more that the cars.

Funnily enough yesterday I passed a Pajero bogged up to its axles on a mown and level powerline easement track just off a main street in town, in full view of everybody. The ground was dry, he must have found the only patch of mud and tried to be a 4WD warrior. He was walking around the car scratching his head.

My wife had a Sigma in the 80's. Her way of checking the oil level was to top it up when the car stopped blowing huge plumes of smoke.
She had a late 80's Magna after that. Wasn't bad, but neither was our new washing machine. Both were the same colour and about as inspiring. She now has a late model Lancer. I have to admit they're not a bad car and I quite enjoy driving it. My only complaint are the seats tend to feel 'thin', particularly on a long trip. |

After I had a bit of a snoop around and skirted a large deep mud and water filled hole on one track by taking a little detour, a workmate who ploughed straight through it in a Patrol (and very nearly got stuck...took some work to get him out) said I had taken the "Chicken Track"... No, I replied, I took the "I know I'm getting where we're going and back home again with my fourbie in one piece" track... |

To answer the OP, I think you'll find that most everyone will find these ads cringeworthy. They could have done this so well, but the acting is cheesy as hell and not very imaginative.

I must admit, the first time I saw the add, I said "and since when do people call them Mitsi?"... But haven’t really thought much more about it after that.
I think Macca’s has a good add at the moment, doing the same kind of thing. But everyone calls McDonalds, Macca’s.. so it makes more sense. |

I wonder how many people here remember the "Magna Men" ad, you were either a Holden or Ford Man at the time, i think it was around the mid to late 90's

Now this is how you make people sit up and pay attention...of course it shows "furious driving" so wouldn't be allowed on TV's here. Movie theaters are fine though... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zTheyLIvRc |

I dunno, it's not such a bad campaign. Bloke stuck doing stuff he hates because missus tells him to, his mates come to the rescue in a Triton and they end up doing fun stuff they actually like doing.
Just could have done it with a much cooler ute........

Don't forget that the Advertising is aimed at people who think that Daker winning Pajero is the same as the one in the showroom

Its a stupid ad. Just like the Holden one with the father and son towing a caravan, saying bloody caravaners..HEY lets not go there...and the Jeep one..out in the back of beyond asking what color they have like for god,s sake, if that is what i am going to base or decide what new car i am going to purchase...well lets just say, LETS NOT GO THERE.............

That's it nowadays. The vast, staggering, massive majority of buyers don't care about 0-100 times, quarter mile runs, horsepower, which end is doing the driving, or handling. Virtually no one even looks under the bonnet anymore. People are even more badge-blind than ever...long long gone are the days of "daddy had a Falcon and his daddy had a Falcon so I have to buy one too". What do they care about? Colour, warrantee, cost of servicing, fuel economy, financing, reliability, toys and features and included goodies. Why do you think there are so many Camrys and Aurions on the streets...? Not what the vanishingly-small number of true car enthusiasts who care about such things want to hear, but that's about it. And of that number of car enthusiasts, a tiny minority of them will ever roll up and buy a brand new car...it's almost like a lot of car lovers simply like the idea of something being for sale somewhere (as if they pray for them to continue being made so they can possibly one day buy a tired second hand one cheap), but will never be able to buy one themselves new...what has been called "The Harley T-Shirt Example"...in other words, "haven't got the bike, will never be able to own the bike, and got the shirt to prove it"... |

I have never heard of the term "Mitsi" before the current string of ads.
To me they have always have been "Peace of s***y" I guess they want to define the nick name for that reason.

And yet here we are discussing it on AFF...sometimes an add doesnt have to directly sell anything, but if it gets people talking and the brand in peoples thoughts then thats half the battle.

Speaking of battles, I wonder if anyone said "Its a Mitsi" whilst getting nailed by a zero during World War 2?
