If it was a hire car then the bill once it has not been paid will be sent to the hire company, they will just process it on your credit card with an administration fee, if the credit card has expired they will send you a bill, when the bill is not paid they will send it to a collection agency.
It could be worse, your wife could have gone crazy on the ponte vechio while you were at the Uffizi gazing at La Nascita di Venere or the very good sort that sun bathes on Ponte alla carraia in a very small bikini and then you would have a very real bill to pay. |

damn, should have paid it. Hertz just charged me E18 as an admin fee to provide a stat dec to the Poliza Municipale in Firenze. So now they will chase me, no doubt with an admin fee of their own, all in Euro and the AUD to Euro exchange rate is now stuffed.
So all in all likely to pay about $200 for a parking fine I guess. I only parked one spot over (in a blue spot instead of white). Now if only someone could tell me how to pay it so I can stop getting admin fees, that would be helpfull!!!! Will send an email to the Polizia asking how to pay and hope they can understand it.

Just play dumb, if they contact you just say "Me-a no speaka engrish"
I got fined in Malysia for chewing gum (that's right, chewing gum), far be it from me why i got done until the intense hand gestures of the authority figure cleared it for me. Came home 3 weeks later and haven't given it a second thought since, just ignored it and moved on. But then again, they couldn't track me down. |

Gee, they must be more efficient in Florence than in Perugia as I still haven't heard anything about my fine back in October last year. One more month until the credit card expires...

Pay the thing, you earn't it afterall. *
EU becomes more effective at chasing fine debt inter-jurisdictionally, not in a disimilar way to AUS. * = Had AUS, when it signed the "UN Convention on Road Traffic" back in 49' (Gazz53), had then ALSO contracted the then optional "Road Signs & Signals" portion, would have meant you'd be 'native familiar' with all international road traffic signs and road markings. But no, we opted out to create our own unique road signs and markings, but do have some internationalised permissible versions, eg 'speed' restriction. NZ, even Fiji use more international signs and roadmarkings than us, and yet we have the temerity to advocate NZ use 'our' unique in the world AS/NZ system? Yikes. Practical example; Australia's 'R4-12' END speed-limit sign that looks nothing like the UN/International version catalogued as C, 17(b). Each falls back to a rural default in legal meaning. Know the rules, grab a copy from AAA the leaflet 'Overseas Motoring'.

I just forgot that white lines meant resident parking, and blue lines were for meter parking! Which, as you say KeepLeft, is the opposite here. Coloured line parking spots usually indicate more of a restriction than white ones. Confounding the issue was the parking meter was in front of my car space, not the blue ones! I wonder how many get caught by that!
I admit I didn't really even notice the white v blue lines, just parked in front of the meter. At AU$165 I will check the lines next time!

If you ever want to go back to Italy pay the fine. If you dont and it's registered they could arrest you at the border for non payment of fines. This happens in the good ol U.S. of A. For $60 I personally would just pay it so if you ever go there again you dont ahve to worry.

Rosco Oz = One Oz nickname for Rosario ( and I know an Italian Rosario who calls himself variously Ross and Rosco).
I'm not of Italian origins although I do have Italian relatives and know several Italian Nic(k) s and two Italian Tonios. My name is Ross and my Italian relatives call me Rosco hence that sign off.
