Its nice to see those people will be moving on to different cars...... 4x4 Merc will become a natural reef within a few years... except you dont get many tropical fish in SA...

The final words were "Doesnt that FK/Wit know that these cars aren't 4WDs".

But seeing the tv ads for these vehicles I would have taken the view that they are a 4WD and should be capable of at least light 4WDriving to say the least. This is certainly the case with all the other equvalent vehicles which are promoted in this way ie Nissan Pathfinder, VW Touareg, Holden Captiva to name a few

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, surely you can use it like a duck.
I saw on Fraser Island a VW Toureg the V10 model. It coped with the sand no worries and kept up with us in the massive 4wd Tour bus thing we were in.... our driver actually pulled over to let it past as it was doing the city tailgate on some tracks!

In defence of those people, they had parked their cars 10 metres above the high water mark. It was an organised fishing event. It was a king tide that came in and swamped their cars.

On a lighter note, another event that was cancelled here in SA due to bad weather:

hmm but it would kinda click ya think when the locals living in that area said there's no way in hell they would go down the beach in them weather conditions, they really can't blame anybody but themselves.
It's an area that anybody who has any inkling about beach fishing checks out what the weather and tides are doing before going down there.

There was people down there that got out ok, because they took notice of the weather predictions and prepared alternate higher ground camping sites if it did get as bad as predicted and they came out fine.
Just the knobheads got swamped.
