Favorite road to drive in Australia

For the region I live in, Sunshine Coast, from the Beerwah turn off, through Landsborough, Maleny, Montville, Flaxton, and down into Nambour, or the other way round. Nice views and twisty, hilly roads.

Halls Gap to Dunkeld amongst the Grampians is up there.

I like to do that run in the opposite direction. Coming out of Nambour and up the hill, love that little stretch through the twisties.

Yesterday I drove a nice strech of road between Whitfiled and Mansfield (This is up in Northern Victoria I was coming back from Beechworth for those who might not know).

Lots of tight turns and also so lovely long open corners...and then small strights in between.

The F6 loved it and it was about 18c so the air was nice and cool up there...the turbo suck plenty of it in :evil3:

In/Around Sydney
From Orange to Parkes is some really great country roads. From Parkes to The Big Dish(out of the movie "The Dish") is an awesome road too, a little gravelly but its very new.

Bells Line Road is great when there isnt any traffic, its just been resurfaced too, although im not sure how much of it is done. It goes through the Blue Mountains

Kangaroo Valley is great, Maquarie Pass are some of my favourites which is south of sydney near Nowra

Yep, used to do that regularly when I lived in Noosa. Had an old '68 Landy. Stopping for an ice cream at the wreck of the Cherry Venture was cool too. Shame that wreck is now gone. I was once breathelised on the beach returning from Rainbow Beach. That was different.

Black spur in melbourne is fun, but insane.. could go wrong pretty bad if you miss judge it.

I havent actually done the old pac highway yet but i keep hearing good things

Have to agree with you there auslandau, I do that trip three or four times a year and I never get board of it. When I had a bike the glorious,nebo,mee and samford was good but too short on a big roady. And on the dirt glorious has a lot of hidden treasures if you can get up the big hill climbs.

Bells line Road from lithgow to Richmond, almost a 100kph all the way and hardly any traffic for 120kms, and its full of twisty goodness.

Sorry to tell you this but the Bells line Road has recently had its speed limits downgraded. Its now largely an 80kph road.

Another example of our fine governing bodies making decisions to protect us from ourselves and make it easier to collect a bit of revenue while they are at it!

The scenery is strikingly different too (well was 12 months ago) from all the regrowth coming from charred Eucalypt trunks lining the road along some locations. The result of bushfires in early '06.

I was just thinking if the mods could create a subfolder somewhere for "Scenic Drives" divided up state by state. People can put some suggestions down for people who may be after some ideas on where to go what to do for a sunday drive or something.

GOR was good but agree that its too busy and the 80 limit spoils the fun a bit. Some real gems around central Vic if you explore off the regular routes, I like to get a map and workout a nice loop, weekdays are best.

Looking at some of these there are some awesome roads I have driven on and forgotten about. Noosa northshore for one and the royal national park both graet roads.

Yep, the Black Spur is notorious down here, quite a few bike accidents there, well known black spot.

The Black Spur is beaut. USED to have a house in Eildon (before the other side of the family stole it, as well as everything else) so we went along it many times each year.

The worst road I've been on would be Hells Gate, QLD to Borroloola, NT, dead trailers, caravans, cars n' trucks scattered along the sides of this road for much of it's length. When I lived there years ago I spent time dragging many into civilization.

kiama to berry is good on a quiet night home, kiama to jamberoo is a great short trip, and berry to shoalhaven heads is mighty fun when you know it. all down the shoalhaven way (NSW).

Yeah, but there are speed cameras on that road now. Something about a high fatality rate...

The road into Bendalong/Manyana is fun, and 100/hour as well. Not sure what it is called, however.
