It's funny, Europeans say of the US Motoring Media being biased to American cars, and Americans say of the US Motoring Media being biased to European/Japanese cars. Who to believe? I'll believe what I've read and say US Mags are US biased.

whatever anyone has written the Z06 is an impressive piece of gear for the $$ and that cannot be denied. What else is around for that money with that performance? Driveability? bah it is what the owner can deal with, i think I could put up with the Z06 easily.

Every review of the 360CS and 911RS all say they are too stiff for regular road use, and the fact they cant traverse your average driveway or speed hump. The 911RS wasnt even available in the US due to emissions!
Ford GT simply is impractical due to the doors, try getting in or out of it at a carpark.
Carrera GT is again just too low and stiff to be practical.

That's very interesting, considering the 996 GT3 RS uses the exact same 280kW 3.6litre flat-six in the exact same state of tune with all identical emissions and other hardware.

With minimal bolt on mods the Corvette will run under 11 secs on the 1/4 mile.

How many 911's have you driven?

That would explain how you can tell us all that the quality of the Z06 is less than the 911?

Oh, and when were you last driving a Z06 "on a normal, unevenly surfaced, pothole infested road"?

Until then go back to your pimply faced school friends and tell them how knowledgable you are on all supercars that you have never driven (Although one day you may drive one, when you have a license), so let the adults have a proper, unbiased and sensible discussion.

Now back on topic:
I can't believe the times it has run with the good ol' leaf sprung rear end!!
I suppose they go by the saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

I wouldn't knock back a ZO6. Point is that it was never designed to be a practical everyday car, but a purpose built and focused track warrior. If that's what you're looking for then you have to accept that its gonna ride like a dog on the streets. However, US build quality still leaves a lot to be desired. If this car was built like a Japanese car, then it'd be perfect.

Also did anyone see the Saab in Cadillac clothing in the show? Gosh the GM designers responsible for cadillac need something other than a ruler (to quote JC)

It wasn't a CTS in that episode, it was a BLS which is entirely based on the Saab platform and only sold in Europe.

Ahem. I've been at the helm of a 911 Turbo. I've been passenger to many a Porsche. A good friend of mine in Texas owned a C5 Corvette and has driven the C6.

I do have a licence, thank's very much. The quality of the Corvette in general is far below that of the 911. Chevrolet tried to tell my friend that using 2 quarts of oil every 1000 miles was 'normal.' Of course, even if you don't know anyone who's been near a Corvette, just look at some US 'vette forums. Stories of C6's breaking diff's and transmissions simply wearing drag radials instead of normal street rubber, the infamous Z06 which had its roof panel fly off at 60mph, car's that won't start on cold mornings etc etc.

Did I say that? If you've payed attention to my previous posts, you'll see that I called the Z06's engine low stress, a recipe for durability and good fuel economy. Reading's a good thing to do prior to quoting people. :

You talk like busted diffs, oil burning and dodgy transmissions is something exclusive of GM. Ferrari, BMW, Merc, Lamborghini all suffer from similar problems. Hell BMW had to reduce the rev limit of M3s because of the amount that were blowing their engines.
And then theres Ford with the GT, the 'speedy sleeve' disaster, broken control arms etc.

I dont see the problem. JC said that the 7 Litre Vette would be a pain in the *** for a 50 year old man to own and use as his "every day" car. Yes.. so?

Its not designed for that! neither is a Ford GT, Lotus, most ferraris, etc etc..
These are play cars, fun not functional cars to take out for a fang every now and then, not for picking up the shopping and the kids and battling traffic and pot holes in.

Just like your average 5 door supermarket trolley hatch isnt designed to go racing in, this beastie isnt designed to go to the supermarket.

Is there a problem with that?

Topgear is a great show but it does show bias to Euro's alot of the time, the Zo6 is a great car.

After watching quite a few video's of blown and bolt on Mustangs taking on Stock ZO6's on the street and losing i have a huge amount of respect for this car, sure they may not have the build quality of a Lambo or Ferriari but for the price how could you complain?

It's not a standard leaf spring suspension, it is independant with a transverse leaf. Clamped in the middle and the ends move up and down.

Definately inpractible, and you would need a few dollars to have a daily drive aswell but its a nice car, cant dispute that.

Firsty, to the car. It's great for the price. I wouldn't mind one. If you buy it blindly you deserve what you get anyway.

No point comparing Corvette with any other European/Jap sportscars .. it's the Yanks version of a SportsCar .. goes fast(ish) in a straight line, kind of corners, is cheap(ish) and simple. Yes, the Z06 is better than it's predecessors in handling, acceleration, etc .. but so has the rest of the competition.
The Yanks are big enough to make their own "version" of everything .. sportscars, 4x4s (a la SUVs), utes, etc, etc, etc ..
A Corvette will never be a Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, etc .. and it won't worry the majority of Corvette buyers; Americans.
