Auuteage have you tried a specialist exhaust centre rather than Midas cause im sure they would be able to do it, your pics look like there is the same amount of room as the EGAS. The heat wont affect the converter and the heatshield was moulded over the paccies to protect the few wires in that area from melting

man,i have never realy paid much attention to the gas set ups before .but my mechanic runs a ef fairmont on gas. i know ef and au are different cars but the convertor he runs on his would be half the size of the one in the pics above. being they are all 4l's do they all run the same gas convertors?

Mine looks exactly like that ... I thought mine wouldn't fit ... but once you take the shield and headers off and put the new ones on ... they fit nicely. I think i have slightly more room that the pic above .... but not much. As long as the shield is in place (and modified to suit) .... it's all good. And if you fee like relocating your converter ... get a bracket made up to move it towards the front of the car by a couple of inches ... that's enough to clear the pipe coming out from number 3 exhaust port.

Depends if his converter is an aftermarket one ... I am sure all the Ford kits use Vialle units (complex converter I think it is) ... that's from the E-series onwards. I have seen Impco/Airod ad other units that are much smaller ... but have a larger mixer included in the kit.

If you look at this pic .. you can see the mounting points on the strut tower where the bracket is mounted .... the converter sits just in front of where No.3 pipe comes out ... it's hard to show in this picture, but the No. 3 pipe angles back slightly ... it doesn't come straight out from the engine. Hope this helps ... I need to take some decent pics ... but I just haven't had time to.

hey GK, after time your extractors loose their colour because of heat. once you first put them on, at the traffic lights, smoke comes out from under the bonnet and wheel arches and people look and point at your funny but its just the paint burning off.
AND.... heat is not a problem to the gas gear.. your gas converter works off your HOT coolant to change your the liquid to a gas so extractors will actually help your gas converter if anything. sometimes i leave my heatsheild off but now i mostly leave it on because its painted black now. hope this solves some issues

Still for sale $350, if any takers out there in Melbourne.....
Making them fit , after ringing around, is not going to be worth the hassle.... |

I told the gas mob I use to move it forward and down.
They asked why and I said to them that I was getting aftermarket headers put on and that the number 3&4 pipes would hit the converter and that it had to be done before I took it to the exhaust shop (which was that weekend). Initially they were going to say no until I told them I had already booked the exhaust in for that weekend. They moved it and told me to bring it back to them so they could check it out once the exhaust was on and put the old heatshield back over the converter.

Auuteage mate,, dont sell them.. trust me.. they will fit fine. dont worry about moving the converter there is no need. just go to a performance exhuast shop not midas and get them fitted.
oh yeah and GK.. they are a little faded but not black.... its mainly just the lighting.. they are pretty much the same as the top. and those photos were taken the week i got them. and bodesh. i got the smoke coming out because the first time it was started after fitting the headers was when i jumped in it to drive home.. the smoke lasted about 10 k's

^^yeah he would have...the actual convertors look exactly the same, although yours seems to have it's own heat shield attached to the front of it...if you remove that, as long as it's ok to be removed, they will fit

I just dont know. Cant decide if I should do it or not. I need more punchy acceleration carrying such heavy loads in my ute. Id hate to go to the trouble and get very little difference. Even though Im not expecting miracles ! |

EGAS Falcons didn't come with a heatshield on the converter (min didn't) ... but you could get them from Boral if you needed.

Looked into a bit further today, just not worth the extra $$ to move the converter. And there arent many willing to do it either.
So, who wants em? $350..... |
