No, lame is not reading the T' & C's and/or not following them, then feeling aggrieved because you were:
-Lazy
-Careless
-Ignorant
-Arrogant
-All the above.

Luckily for you, there are more.

So Russ, since the box has been well & truly opened now, (thanks to the ones who wouldn't leave it alone) what are the guidelines to follow for this. Are acronyms such as FFS allowed? Or not. I don't believe this to be a true breach, just simply a time saver like AFAIK, etc.

I know was directed to Russ but will put my 2 bobs in (as I rarely do!!!) ...... acronyms are allowed and if someone is going to be pulled up for using them, it will only because of the context, rather than the words itself.

I will reiterate though ........ If everyone just types as they normally would on any other site, they have no problems whatsoever. Let the computer pick up what is or isn't allowed. There is no need for anyone to change the way they type from one forum to another ....... as long it is within the Terms and Conditions. As in, swearing just to be insulting or abusive to others.

My car is ****** ...... No probs (computer did its thing!)
You are ****** ......... Problems (Considered abusive to someone!)
Wtf is going on ........ No probs
Trying to manipulate the computer so the word appears ...... Problems!

If a swear word is used and it is not blocked by the computer then it is OK as most words have been covered!

Really cant think of any other way to put it? I swear like a trouper but in forums I prefer it this way. There isn't just a need to or just let the computer decide.

On the forums I moderate this is precisely what this time of year brings, good ol' American summer.

funny enough, it's exactly the same. Oh, you broke the rules? Here's a warning. Oh, a public post complaining about how the mods are horrible? Cool. *waves ban stick* problem solved, now we wont bother you.

If you want words such as fekk and ***** to be blocked, I suggest you take it up with management.
(See, that works, problem solved.)
Common to who? The circle you are in? Sure in a workshop etc it might be common and unfortunately on the streets some think its reasonable but most frown upon it and so it should be.

Oh drop it lads. Dazz can be forgiven at nearly 3am for a thread mine

A summary story is private forum, house rules. Don't like them, plenty of other places to go. The rules were clarified above as best as can be expressed. But each mod can interpret and apply with reason based on section circumstance and a overall need to attempt to be consistent. Hope you all have a great day, drive your cars and get off the keyboard.

Could a moderator please take the time to substitute the swear words to something other than ***** and *****?

makes the forum threads look like crap.

We could have Vbulletin replace words like **** with "poo" and carnt with "private part of female anatomy" and preek with "sharp masculine object"

this I have found on other forums to dissuade swearing more than just asterisks.

(makes the tough guys look like pansies when they try to swear...LOL)

Could probably take a poll on it one rainy night for a bit of forum fun?

Good morning,
Cars do not have genitalia, so reference to their parts are not as privates.
Don't really care, but I would rather read a post with some thought into what is written than reading words which have no reference to cars.
Cheers,

I see it as so black and white and cannot for the life of me see a problem with the swear filter!

Type what ever you want and let the filter do its job! So so basic I cannot comprehend how anyone can not understand this concept?

AVOID the filter by altering the spelling on purpose by all means ...... but be prepared to be edited, alerted and then warned for constantly breaching something that is in the Terms & Conditions when everyone signed up.

If anyone does not like this but prefers a FB style, kiddy room with everyone abusing each other .... calling Mods Nazis etc ..... be prepared for the consequences.

I think some should go to other forums if they do not like the rules here. I am on some that just make reading posts so exhausting because of the way some post. Start your own Forums or go to another ..... no one is forcing anyone to be here but if you are the rules are clear for all to follow.

Re posted what I wrote above. I think its clear or am I missing something?

A PC game called SWAT3 used to do that in the chat lobby, it would substitute rude words with other random stuff like "tent pole" "tuna" etc.

I don't see the problem with the filter as it is. It's easily recognisable when the filter kicks in with asterisks as to what the poster is talking about - it's not rocket science that it's to the point of incomprehension for the average person.

The abbreviations accepted on this forum like wtf, ffs, gtfo, fmd are all pretty clear. swmbo did my head in - urban dictionary and google sorted that out for me.

I swear like a ******* wharfie, never been cautioned for my posts. %^@% never got me in trouble either. I can usually find an acceptable forum friendly synonym/acronym for what I want to say.

This is a well moderated, well organised and user friendly forum - so good it's the only one I've bothered to become a donating member to.

Leave the swear filter the **** alone, show some respect, and use your imagination. ;)

Cheers!

Erm, isnt that simply proving the case? Or you just dont care? But you wouldn't dish out the consequences if you didn't care. Just sayin'

With that statement though, it sounds like I am one of those people. However, Ive never had an issue ever with a mod in the 5? years I've been on this forum. Dont believe I have ever had a post edited for taste or clarity, and when they are edited or deleted, its simply when I have commented on a hot topic that everyone else has had theirs deleted too. So when I say "I'm just sayin'", I really am "just sayin'."

I can't work out why this is so hard to comprehend for some people.
I see it on another forum I use a bit, and the trolls just keep pushing the boundaries and then whinge and moan how they're so hard done by.

The way I see it is this, you don't go to someones home and do whatever you want. You go by their rules or leave.

Forums are the same, they are run by 'someone', that someone has rules, and you follow them.
If you don't want to follow the rules, then go somewhere else.
It's that easy.
