used to catch a train in to work every day here in london
if you ever been to london you would understand the chaos, carnage and volumes of people to contend with on the trains so after a year of hell ...i moved into the docklands region in london and am only 10 minute walk to work. Been walking to work for over 4.5 years now. Not sure how i will contend with traffic again in melbourne when i move back |

20 k's one way. average 25minutes (15 minutes if i am running late or "injectors require cleaning" :evil3
Depending on the time i leave work, i will choose the Eastlink or Springvale road ( I live in Dandenong North, work in Blackburn) If i leave around 5pm, I will avoid Springvale road and Monash freeway. If i leave around 6:30pm, Springvale road, and Monash freeway. (Eastlink is pricey) As many drivers in the forum, the highlight of my job is the drive TO and FROM work |

No travel, I work from home / sort off. I've pretty much retired now.
All my past jobs I made sure I didn't have to travel more than 15 minutes to work. All this 2 hrs to work/ 2 hrs back that some people do etc, what a waste of good valuable hours each day, I wouldn't do it ! .

Narre Warren to the CBD, about 40km's each way. Takes me about 45minutes if I take the tollways, an hour or so if I bypass through Dandenong Rd/Alexandria Way (?).
Got to get better shifts so I can take the trains, saves heaps of money that way.

22k's - about 1k by foot and the rest by train. Its actually usually a very good trip and at about 50 mins door to door, its about 1/2 to 3/4 the driving time. Throw in a yearly pass for no queues and its a pretty cruisey way to get to work, leaving driving as a mainly fun thing for me. I keep thinking about riding a pushie sometimes though.
I have driven a 360km per day round trip commute though when I was living in the country for a year (in an EF). Suffice to say that petrol was a tad bit cheaper then.

For me, it's about 80kms and a 1.5 hour trip, door to door.
20-25mins (25km) drive to the train station. 45 mins on the train. 10 mins walk from the train station to work. I only do the long trip to work as living in the country is worth it. When catching the train, you can listen to the radio and hear about all the traffic hassles and have a little chuckle to yourself as none of it applies to you. As for what I do in that time, I read a book, or listen to the radio, or do some of my own personal work and the laptop. You can be in an absolute foul mood when you leave work, and by the time you get off the train, you are nice and calm and relaxed ready for the drive home to see the missus. I've been doing this trip now for three years, but it's probably getting to the time where I am going to start looking for something a bit closer to home.

It's about 50 feet from my bedroom to my office. So about 30 seconds by foot.

Best is 4.5hrs, worst is about 7.5hrs and most of it is waiting in airports for connecting flights. I only do one round trip every fortnight so its not too bad. Free grog in the qantas club gets me through it. :

35 kms round trip. The trip in and out are different lengths because of highways etc.
I guess it takes 15 - 25 mins each way including getting the garage open and closed. Brisbane traffic is apparently as bad as sidinee now. All we need is the pollution, crime and cost of living and we'll have all the disadvantages and none of the advantages. |
