The motor in a 78 Series cruiser is further back. Not sure about the weight difference regarding the Troopy though ? |

Helps that being aluminium, the F150 is not alot heavier than a Ranger.

Recently drove a 76 series V8 cruiser, bloody awful ,to put the underpinnings of the cruiser into a Hi Lux would be a disaster , sure the engine is cool with its V8 note but the rest is a 1980s throwback machine .

Looking at the prices for these 1980s throwback machines, I guess there must be a lot of 80s fans out there, to fork out 40k to 50k for something straight out of 1982 with new headlights.. It really makes you wonder what is the point of innovation, maybe Ford Aus would still be around and profitable if it just kept spitting out XH Panelvans, Utes and X-series wagons bodies with new running gear bolted in...

diving around a 76 series is like driving around in a truck, they are designed to take the punishment, not to be a nice daily driver. however the 100 and 200 series crusiers have different suspension and travel quite nicely.

That was my point though, conceptually a V8 diesel would find a lot of friends in that ute segment- it's still growing and a v8 diesel could work in Hilux IMO |

I reckon the GM 6V53 supercharged diesel, shouldve been revived in the F series, they sound AWESOME, check out the conversions done on a few F350 4x4's on youtube, if I was gonna do a diesel conversion, thats what I'd be doing, you'd probably get locked up for noise pollution, but, thats life..

I LOVE the Detroit V engines, the only diesels that have decent note to them, but, the 6V53 was first introduced in 1957, and the supercharged engine produced 300 plus hp, with well over 600lbsft of torque, so out of a 5.2 litre V6, for its day thats not too bad, PLUS the noise factor and note it has, LOL, makes up for any negatives it may have, I saw on youtube, where they did a tug test against another F350 with a V8 powerstroke engine, and even tho the powerstroker won, it barely did so.. (I love old skool)

and that 2600 feels like its pulling 8000rpm
6V71's were less than 250HP and that's a 7 litre common in Greyhound Busses of the time

I believe the 6V53, came out in, 160bhp, 220bhp, and 300bhp.. so I guess depends on which engine you had.. I do stand to be corrected.. Im no expert in them..

http://jalopnik.com/5542526/the-worl...erse-fauxrarri http://jalopnik.com/most-backwards-e...yli-1759250645 In all seriousness but, I'd like to see someone transplant a manual Mustang Ecoboost/manual gearbox or Focus RS into a Falcon before it dies. |

If the Ferrari engine failed the cost of Rebuild may have exceeded the cars value. so it may have been an insurance write off. somebody's got hold of it and fitted a more powerful & more reliable engine to get it running. yes its not worth as much as an original, but still looks the goods & goes a little bit harder

Hi Jim, yeah I read a while back that they were talking about the 4.2 Amarok for the USA market but apparently since then they have decided to stay on the 4 cyl route unfortunately

Has anyone else got some zany ideas? I'm looking to make this a regular feature as part of my editorial contributions.
Since Holden is audacious enough to call the next Insignia a 'Commodore', is there anything engine-wise that could fit inside the Mondeo that would lure former Falcon buyer? Just can't picture any Ford or Holden after 2017 at a Summernats , meaning that once we run out of old machinery there's not many ideas left. |
