really disappointed with tonights performance. I sat in an Australian pub in Bangladesh, and kept praying that we some how got out of jail.
Well i guess it wasnt meant to be. In the long run this loss is good for us...it would have been a false dawn if we had gotten any further in this tournament. It'll teach us to take the conditions and teams more seriously...hopefully the backroom staff will do a better job of scouting. The match itself was a tough one...Grella was harshly sent off...i think it was a raised elbow, but not malicious..so a yellow card would have sufficed. We let in such a soft goal...poor poor goalkeeping. Penalties are a lottery..we benefited against Uruguay, and lost out against Japan. No need to panic though...its a big tournament...our first time in it... Hopefully we will have learnt out lessons for next time around. *The Wallabies losing to the All Blacks didnt help matters either...not a good day for aussie sports* |

Apart from that wasn't a bad game, we went to 3 pubs trying to watch it and everywhere was packed out, ended up at Crown Casino where it was the most crowded I had ever seen it since it has been open. |

Australia seemed to spend most of it's time only trying to defend.

The referee got two vital decisions very wrong, and was generally poor. The red card should have been yellow. The yellow card for Carney for 'diving' was wrong as there was contact. The Japanese player should have been awarded the yellow as Carney was on his way to goal. However, we played well enough on the night. I just think that if our pre-tournament had been better, we could have gone further. As HTCURRY said, we needed to take the other teams more seriously. WE approached this tournament with a lot of arrogance. Arnold was interviewed and he stated that anything less than a place in teh final was failure. Just vecause we are Australia, it doesnt give usd the right to win everything we enter, especially in Asia. However, this was our first Asian Cup and hopefully we learnt a lot from it. Next time we should do a lot better.
