Damn better tell all those guys with XY GT s that they need to sell there aged cars and buy a 60,000 dollar brand new car, because a 60,000 dollar new car is gonna hold its value way better than an 'aged' XY anyway

If you are happy with your cars why is there a need to go buy a new car, the only reason I can see you buying a new car is to say i spent X amount on this car look at me. The people you seem to talk about all sound like wanna be's. Maybe you need new friends that don't care about the items you own. To answer your questions, the point I am in my life at the moment buying a new car or old car would not matter as I may drive around 10ks a week if that sometimes. What’s the point of buying another car to sit in the driveway still. The GT I have was last driven around 3 months ago. So maybe think about what your needs are and not worry about what other people are thinking about you. |

Don't let them get to you Hulkster, they are simply jealous of your exceptional thread starting abilities.
Time and time again you come up with these superb topics. Keep up the good work, I congratulate you. On to the topic, I've only owned 1 brand new car, it was ok. I value the car, not its age, so whether it's new or 50 years old doesn't really come into it. You're dead right though, many seem to have a need for the latest car and those gadgets that go with it. A friend of mine who I haven't seen in some years seemed to swap his cars for the later model every year or so. It gained him very little except an ever shrinking bank account. He waffled on to me about how it had all these fancy gadgets, however most of them were fairly useless. I still have the same cars, the newest being 2002, the oldest 1972. I have 6 cars, he has 2. I am happy, I don't know about him. The new car smell that's often talked about doesn't interest me at all. I don't buy a car for it's smell, I buy a car for how it performs, overall. The other major problem with new is the incredible depreciation. I can't live with that. Age just doesn't come into it, and there's barely a car newer than around 2005 that I even like. They're all too ummm, modern. I'd sure like to get some more old cars, and will soon enough. The next will probably be around 1965...

There is no way I would consider a new car up to the standard of my 'old' vehicles. My daily driver is 40 years old being a '75 model, and I upgraded that from a '92 model, never felt any need to worry about what my neighbour drives, or my mates drive. The thought has not even crossed my mind. Our newest car is our H3, which is a 2009 model, and it's my wife's family bus to ferry the kids around (I wanted a territory F6X or dual cab 4x4), and yes it is actually her car and there is no way she will get rid of it for a new(er) car. If it is attention you seek and people fussing about your car at a BBQ, I see people walk straight past all the 'new' cars to crowd around a 40 year old Falcon (or Holden/Valiant etc), guys at servos snapping photos and coming over for a chat, kids (and adults) giving you the thumbs up from their dads 'new' car as you drive by, dads snapping photos of your car as you cruise down the street, people standing around your car in car parks when you come out from the shop posing with your car, snapping more photos, cops pulling you up just to 'check out the car'(in a good way), getting pulled into an RBT site and cops forgetting to breath test you as they are too busy chatting about your ride etc etc, it's a daily every day, at times annoying part of life for the driver of an XB (as well as many other 'old' cars). I bet any of this has not happened once to the driver of a 'new' nissan patrol or toyota hilux or audi s4 or even your next door neighbour brand new mazda cx5 (what ever that is).

Hey guys, why not just let the man go out and buy?
It will do a lot less harm, certainly physically, probably psychologically and maybe financially, than a "gentleman's extension" procedure. |

Interesting post here from another thread, sort of puts things into the perspective I mention earlier:

Most people are idiots and more often than not what it really says is "I'm a shallow moron that is prepared to get myself into all sorts of ridiculous debt so people think I'm a legend and a success with my overpriced ******* and oversized house, when really I can barely pay the rates and fill the tank with E10 when no-one's looking" You need to stop giving a **** what everyone else thinks of you. That game never has a good ending, and I imagine there would never by a point reached where you could be content. All that effort, and its for someone else, seems daft. |

Had no plans for a new car as my ute is only 12 months old but then I saw the Golf R wagon has been released today.
I'll give the local dealer a ring this arvo, and I may have a new car in the garage by November. |

I buy a new car usually every 12 months. Not keeping up with the Jones, just my car addiction really....
Current two i have now I will keep for atleast 3 - 4 years as I actually enjoy them. Each to their own I say, plenty of people like to have new safe cars these days, and finance is pretty cheap atm so why not!

Hulk has strong opinions which you may not agree with, but he's harmless. If you don't like it, why read it, least of all reply to it. Chill...

'Everyone' is doing it. Even I bought a new car last week.
No I didn't... it's a 1994 hatchback with 155/60/13 inch wheels 75 HP FWD 259,xxx km's, a modern muscle car. cost me 400 bucks, included in the sale was a full tank of fuel and 2 months rego. Its straight as a die, rust free and everything works, including all the must have gadgets... meaning it has a working speaker and indicators that flash. I bought it cause 'everyone' is buying new cars and to thumb my nose at them...I didn't really! I will probably polish it, add some spare parts I have for it and flog it off for an unscrupulous profit once the quad throttle bodies are finished on the daily... JP |
