Wagon on base model only? Whats the idea behind that? Do the only expect businesses to buy the wagon?
Overall it looks good, Ill add this to the list of cars to compare for the missus when she gets her new car early next year. Shame about the wagon though, I like wagons. |

Pricing ? Ford said " Mondeo to compete with Camry" then, prices are going to be around $28k for Ambiente and $35k for Trend and $42k for Titanium. Top Camry is $42k on road. It will be intersting to see what the price is..I hope they don't gouge..I know the sterling is 53p to the $1A....lets hope its competitive...

And that is 90 mph by the way. That's the normal speed of a Transit on a UK motorway.

That's right. Speed limit is 70, normal speed of transit in the fast lane is 90

I do think they meant that the 177kW engine is for the Trend and Titanium hatch only. According to the Ford website, Trend and Titanium wagons are diesel only, while Ambiente wagon has choice between the 149kW Ecoboost and the diesel. http://www.ford.com.au/cars/new-mond...s/spec-options

What mid/large size sedan can you still get a manual in?
Falcon, Commdore, Accord Euro... all of which are on borrowed time.

Sprint347dave. How about Cortina ? It's an old name with respected history and its Euro . Cortina is Italian, keeps Euro origins with a known name??

They have pretty much done a direct copy of the new mondeo for the FGX Falcon front end. I guess it makes sense to start bringing the Global look too the FGX. in saying that they are both dam fine looking cars. I like the fact that Ford has followed the likes of Benz and BMW and given there cars a uniform look.

Even the base model is very well specced.
Are they still running with the ancient 3yr/100k km warranty? That alone will make buyers choose the opposition.

Here are some median monthly earnings converted to $au (roughly) Spain Eu1615 = $au2375 UK Eu 2597 = $au 4900 Aus $au 6569 and whilst these do not directly equate to production line worker incomes, but they would show the same relative differences, it isn't difficult to see why Australia's motor industry is heading elsewhere. Pretty much the highest wage component and small scale production numbers. Based on the figures shown, we better be thankful that the thing isn't being built in the UK. Cheers

That's a ridiculous statement. Next you'll saying that the Rolls Royce Phantom (maybe 1 a month?) doesn't sell well because there's no manual option...
Manuals, especially in anything but a hot hatch, but dieing. It seems that the vocal minority, who're probably the same that still can't figure out why the Falcon isn't selling, think there's a market but everyone else has accepted the reality. The fact that Ford and Holden have gradually removed the manual option from their Falcon and Commodore range attests to this. I don't have the figures off hand, but I'm fairly sure that FPV sell more autos than manuals. The reason the current Mondeo doesn't sell is because it's old and not advertised. And Ford dealers would probably prefer to sell you a Falcon. Come next year when the new model is launched... |

Sad, but true. I'd have loved to buy a manual Mondeo, but since that isn't going to happen, I guess I'll settle for auto.
Pity Aussies haven't taken to manual transmission the way Europeans have. I don't have the figures off hand, but I'd bet that most cars in Europe are manual.

Consider what the Mondeo represents. A car that is a similar size to falcon or a commodore, yet front wheel drive. For a whole generation of buyers who grew up with rear wheel drive cars with the dynamics to suit, and who still are in the market for that size vehicle, why would you park your bum in a front wheel drive? For those who have moved on from commodores and falcons, and are driving around in a dual cab Utes or SUVs of some description, why would you buy a car like a Mondeo? I certainly don't by the whole, "dealers would rather sell you a falcon" BS. I'll tell you what dealers want to sell. They want to sell cars with the biggest margin, and falcon ain't it, simple. That is why the Mondeo has been rammed down our throats on and off for a few years now, and that's why they killed off the falcon wagon, and ultimately the falcon. If you don't believe me, consider this. The year one of the FG GTs were launched, so was the Mondeo in direct competition to the falcon. That year I went to a motor show to see the new GT's in the flesh, and guess which cars were at the front of the display on the rotating pedestal.... not the Falcon that's for sure. Walking past a rotating front wheel drive wagon to get to the back of the ford floor space to see the new GT was a low moment in Australian automotive marketing for mine. But it is a clear indication what ford wanted. They've always wanted us to buy the Mondeo. Just like the Taurus prior to that, and way back before that the Mondeo with the poxy swoopi up head lights. That's because Mondeos offer better margins. Now I'm not saying the Mondeo is a bad bus, it's got lots of fruit, it's economical, and it looks OK (I hate the pointy top tail lights, but that's just me) All I'm just saying it's got limited credibility in Australia at this time, and that ford would love us to snap them up like they were cup cakes sold next door to a weight watchers convention. Over time, without a Falcon or Territory to contend with, and after all our nuts have shrivelled to the size of a peas, along with our our zest for life, them I'm sure the Mondeo will do ok for itself. Excellent accountants car a Mondeo. The other thing that Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD |

People want tech..if Titanium is priced close to FGX G6E..G6E won't sell,,no matter how good it is..It won't be perceived as value for money.....Ford have a problem....

That's precisely why I won't consider the G6E. There's simply nothing that it offers over a similarly priced Mondeo Titanium. Plus the Mondeo is a far better looking, more modern car.

The Mondeo is doing fine, it's still in the top 4 or 5 best sellers in the medium category, and it used to be number 2, but it's pretty old now so it's expected. I'd expect it to be number 2 or 3 once the new model is out. It will never match Camry in sales, that's to be expected.
