Only a few times in more than 35 years of liecened driving. I don't count the fines l have copped from speed cameras when my work has taken me down into Victoria because there system is unjust and is mostly about raising revenue!

Every single fine has been in a 100 or 110 zone, which I never obey and have no remorse. Except a sneaky 46 in a 40 zone while lost in Melbourne, in a place called lakeside drive, honestly thinking it was a 50 zone.

Had my share in the first 20 years, young & dumb, Then drove for 25 years and 1.2 million km on country and city roads without penalty, then got pinged by the HP for doing 132 overtaking somebody on a highway out west, he said I had a good record so he knocked it down to 129, I was then able to write to the infringement bureau and get the fine and points wiped because I had had a clean record for more than 10 years.
Just recently had to make a donation of $241 and 4 points for doing 57 kph through a deserted school zone, the school had broken up for Christmas holidays one week before, but no chance of getting out of that one, Just gotta take it on the chin. Must admit I'm still a bit of a lead foot on the highways and back roads when conditions are good, but not in built up areas. I have slowed down quite a bit in the last few years now that the police hold all the cards Years ago an eagle eye, a bit of local knowledge, and a good GPS fixed camera warning device could keep you out of trouble, but not any more. On the highway the cruise control in my XR6 has become my best friend.

Luckily I live in country WA where plods are a little more lenient although I was pinged the other day overtaking a road train doing 130 (well that's what the fine was) I may or may not have been going much quicker that that.
We also have the luxury of radar detectors here. For a comparison with Georges 4km/h over, here 20km over is $200 and 2 points. No wonder I don't drive when I'm in Melbourne.

Twice, recent one 150k in 110 k @6AM but got off it as officer knew me and I had dealt with a sensitive family situation for him 3 weeks prior.
Had the car on cruise control set by GPS but had some great music bumping away and right foot may have been thumping the base drum unknowingly.

It was a private school that shuts a week earlier and had flashing signs that I somehow missed, (the signs were partly obscured by trees), there is no way that they will let you off that. It was my fault that I missed the signs, I just wanted to pay the fine and move on.

No, the tolerance is due to the margin of error in the radar. You can be detected at 66, but that doesn't mean you were doing 66.

I know what you mean by some school’s have the designated 40 k limits only in term and school hours, but this street near the school is a 40 k limit 24/7. |

Have been driving for 10 years, never had a fine.
I have never even been pulled over except at the usual RBT points. Either I am very lucky or just very well behaved. Depends who's asking. |

I've only had the one speeding fine in over 15 years of driving. I was pulled over by an unmarked cop car back when I was still on my P-plates.

I would argue that the signs were at fault as the school was closed. Probably wouldn't win but with a judge/magistrate you never know. |

You could, and it could cost thousands to lose, and apart from that I was 200 km from home.

Only 3 for me over the past 15 years... 2 minor one's and the most recent was in 2012, doing 154 in a 110 zone (V1 went off like a Christmas tree but too late when it's instant-on K-band)
Lucky they didn't catch me 20min earlier because I was going much much faster heading up towards Lancelin in WA Yes, it was silly and dangerous but I'm a good boy now, no more speeding at night time ;)

What was the damage for that exercise?
Would be up around a grand I'd have thought. There's a fixed camera up at the corner of gingin brook rd now, it looks like a lighthouse.

Once, first day back from school holidays, amongst an awful lot of signs for a road work section. Car full of people all asking the boss (me) questions regarding the job we were off to do.
I simply missed the change from 60kmh roadworks to the school zone. So first and only time.

Only once about a year ago on my bike, 15kph over the speed limit. Thankfully I had a clear record for over 10 years, so they let me out with just a warning and didn't have to pay the fine

Been done a couple of times by cameras.
Once I knew the camera was there and had slowed down on the bike as I past, my wife was done a couple of hours later at the same spot and she knew it was there as well....early days of camera cars, there was no discussion, cameras were right everyone else was wrong.

Dad got pulled over by HWP on his way home from work early one morning. 72 in a 50 zone. He was polite, and didn't try to deny it. Officer took his licence for checks, and found he's never had a fine in almost 50 years of driving - even as an interstate truckie.
He mentioned this to Dad as he handed his licence back, and said "Let's not ruin that record tonight. Take it easy, and have a good night." I've only had one fine. 12 years ago? A red light camera on my way to work at 5am, driving into the rising sun. I couldn't see the last 40m or so, coming up to the light. Stopped, looked for other traffic to judge which direction had the green, but there was no one else around, and then turned left. I was advised to fight it, but couldn't be bothered.

I've had 2 fines, one in 2011 was 103 in an 80 (was slowing down, so copped it sweet, the copper gave me 11-20 over), second in 2012 was 83 in a 60, also reduced to 11-20 over. Was on a downhill and I thought I was doing ~70, but the money collector got me on radar. Have also received 2 warnings, and also gotten away from the cops on 3 occasions

Back in 2013 in nsw the (then) rta had an incentive based program happening. No infringements in the prior 5 years and you got an extra point on your licence and half price licence renewel. I jumped on that. Never had a demerit point my way since 03 with my L's so a 5 year license for $81 was mad and 14 points as a buffer was good insurance.
