I hope the High Court finds in favour of the Professor. I'm sick of this country believing that the money they are given from the Government somehow comes from a magical place. Now that we have a huge deficit you and your children will be paying all of this money back for years to come, with interest.
We're in recession, we now have a huge deficit, unemployment is rising and yet with all this Kevin Rudd is our favourite Prime Minister? This country is stuffed. |

This package is ridiculous anyway. Plummeting the country into more debt will worsen this situation we are currently in. |

Illegal taxes. No economic idea. Borrowing money and sending us further into debt. But hey, he doesn't have bushy eye brows like John Howard did. :togo: |

I pay income tax. I pay 80 odd cents a litre in fuel excise. I pay 10% GST on most goods and services. I pay stamp duties on cars and houses. John Howard managed to wipe off 94 billion dollars of national debt and put us into surplus. Tell me why we are now in debt? |

if you remember any money gained by the "alcopop" tax was returned to the alcohol industry or some crap, so the government didn't see any any part of it.

The one and probably only time where I was going to get a direct benefit and some useless egghead god damn academic steps on it!! Who is this guy? Has he ever done anything actually usefull?
Probably some left wing bicycle riding twerp with beard, glasses, bad grooming resplendent in a tweed jacket and leather elbow patches. Most likely has NEVER been out of the school system and has no idea of the real world.

And obviously john Howard didn't repay the money in a day. Took him years to do it. Who's to say K-Rudd won't do the same. Time will tell but seriously, no matter how anyone looks at this, no one is ever going to be 100% happy with our government. I didn't like Howard, and I don't agree with all of Rudds ideas. Like they did in south park-"every election is going to be between a doosh and a crap-sandwich" meaning no matter who the vote goes to, your always getting someone you won't be happy with

I'm sick of this political BS.
I'm sick of un-evidential ramblings of both party's and their staunch supporters. Howard had a surplus, Howard 'promised' to keep interest rates low and told us all that Labour was going to stuff it all up.... Now what do we have? The lowest rates we've seen in a long time. But we all know it wasnt Krudd's work that did it, cause we can see it was OTHER influential factors. Since when can a politician control the interest rates? That's the RBA's job. Someone introduced the GST on top of the fuel excise, the other one was opposed, but now they dont seem to mind about that anymore, because it isnt topical. Its all a massive pile of BS in a huge stinking popularity contest. And I thought the Holden/Ford fight had severe one-eyed supporters that grab hold of some piece of evidence and run with it forever. At least something is being done, it may be the wrong thing but we wont know for a while yet. I bet if nothing was being done, just bunkering down and doing nothing, there would be massive out cry's because of that too. How about we just let this carry on, and once it hits the fan, IF it hits the fan, then complain. No point whinging about something that hasnt happened yet. |

Facts are this: Kevin Rudd inherited a reasonable surplus. He has been in power for less than 12 months and already we are in debt. He wants money making industry killed off too. This crisis is going to be a lot worse than it need be because of the people making the decisions. Still, it doesn't bother me because I'm in a good position and cashed in on the good times. I feel sorry for the majority of Australian's and wish them all well in these trying times. |

Personally hope it gets scrapped. No I'm not rich, yes I have debt, yes it would be nice, no I don't think it is an effective way to stimulate the economy - which is what it's about.
I find it staggering that people can say "lets just spend $42,000,000,000.00 and see what happens" or further, people can be so upset by the prospect of not getting something that they haven't earned and would not normally be entitled to in the face of massive job losses. If the $900 is put on your credit card debt, that will save you about $2.94 a week in interest payments. Hardly big for you and a certainly a big waste of the initiative to spur on spending. The same money spent with your local business person would possibly show them a real profit of $200 - immediately. I don't begrudge anyone who would use this money for debt, savings, gambling or whatever as it is the individuals right to spend what they want, how they want. I do begrudge the Government for risking such a huge amount of money (and perhaps have it only go 30% as far as it could) simply to buy votes. Here's an analogy: You're on a pleasure cruise, everything is wonderful. The sky is blue, the waters are calm. A dirty big storm rolls in and your ship strikes a half sunken ship (already a victim of the storm) - you are now on a sinking ship too, in a terrible storm, in the middle of the ocean. The captain has a big cork he could plug in the hole but elects to break it up so that everybody can use their cork how they see fit. If everybody sticks their cork in the hole, the ship will sail to port just fine and repairs can be carried out when the conditions are better. Everybody lives though they have no cork (lol) and didn't get to enjoy the cruise they were on. Alternatively, passengers know that cork floats and they hang onto their bit incase the ship sinks - hey, people don't always grasp the big picture. The ship floods, some people are drowned immediately and you have all these others floating around in the middle of the ocean on their piece of cork... waiting for a big wave or a shark to kill them too. I hope the Captain just plugs the hole himself but if it turns out you get a piece of cork, please stick it in the hole and save us all. |
