Hey man, do you like to play sport?
Go and join a sporting club of your choice. You will meet plenty of people, and make great friends throught it. Also joining a car cruise is a great idea, you all have a common interest (cars) and from there you can go on and talk about other topics. |

You live in Sydney... Come down to the 'Mean Fiddler' in Rouse Hill...
they get through on average 5000people on a Friday night. Your bound to meet new people, Im 23 and have been going since I was 18, see all the regulars and still meet new people everytime. Got over 440 contacts in my phone mainly because of that place. It gets to the stage when YOU want a quiet night or you get frustrated because so many people are doing so many different things and you dont know where or who to go with lol. its by far the easiest and one of the best places I've ever been to for 1.Getting drunk 2.Meeting new people 3.Getting more drunk 4.Picking up 5.Still drinking 6.Meeting more 7.Dancing.... So many happy times at that place.. lol Edit... one minor detail I missed out. YOU SHOULD SEE SOME OF THE TALENT LOL :monkes: Some of the outfits some of these girls wear.. OMG illegal, immoral and just plain wrong. I Love It!! |

GODD ONYA FOR POSTING THIS MATE . THAT TOOK GUTS. dont feel too bad . people dont have bunches of friends all over the place . the ones who do are really in a minority . and good for them . post 2 from yelow festiva says it all for you . but the norm is i bit like what you describe . as you get older you do start to lose your social life . you have to work to keep it too . otherwise how it is for you now will stay that way . my advice is follow post 2. hobbies and joining a group club . is always good . dont be afraid to go on a contiki tour . if they still exist . most people on these trips go on them because thier friends/ or lack of wont go on a holkiday with them , so they go alone. i once did a weekend 1st aid course . and met people that were more interesting then some of my friends , that faded away into the distance. take up a hobby . not to meet people but . to do something differant with yourself . you might love the hobby, and your friends will come . but dont feel bad dude . what your describing is quite normal , and very common. |

Thanks for you positive suggestions & comments guys! I feel a bit more at ease that others are in the same situation or have been.
I actually applied to do a few different nightly courses of interest, but to my luck none of them are running due to lack of interest, but I think it's more the fact that people are more hard pressed these days and don't have the $$$ for stuff like that. My biggest hurdle to overcome is my living situation, I think it's the bit that gets me down the most. I'm living at home with my folks, but i'm beyond that stage now where I just need my own space. The other thing to is, the area we live in is dead.....nothing happening here, the majority of people are 50-60+. I've been trying to move out for the last two years, but business/financial commitments have stopped me. I'm now in the right posistion to do so, and no one wants to lease a place to me due to my lack of rental history....no matter what I offer. My other option is to buy, but trying to find the right property in my budget is a drawn out process. I've lived out of home before..........and I know how much happier I was, so it's definetly going to help. But anyway, i'll sort that part out in time, and the area I want move has larger population who are closer to my age. There is also much more on, places to go & things to do. With older people, I actually know quite a few people my senior, but the friendships don't result in much socialisation at all. Orsm8, I agree with you totally with what you're saying about the ladies. The thing is i've had more female friends than guys, they say that they enjoy my company because I respect & listen to them. Problem is i've got a female friend who i've known for several months, I developed feelings beyond friendship but it didn't happen for her. So I can't really socialise with her & her friends, especially when she got another guy with her. You know how it goes. Once I move and become more comfortable, i'll be looking for a new hobby. I've got a dodgy back which limits me form a lot of sporting or physical activies. Thankfully i've been pain free for a few years now, but I can't risk it. Does anyone know where to look for things like charity work? Thanks for your help so for, it really helps! Cheers

what area are you in?
the net is your freind when looking for volanteer work go to your counicil site and go form there. as for doing a course or to I did one and met my wife, I have to say, I'm not much of a pick a chick up at a club kind o guy so it was refreshing to meat someone that had simular interests (Well we did the same course after all) and it wasnt due to dodgy night club lighting and breazzers I have other freinds that met there partners through volanteer work and it works well for them for the same reasons

Thanks for the offer Stiddy, but i'm actually heading out of sydney on friday for a few days away. I wouldn't make much of a drinking buddy though, I don't really drink.

Hit the dating sites.
Post up a truthful profile and see what happens. I met my misses that way..... got hitched in 2006. Friends come and go. I thought I had a great group of friends, most of which I met through our Car club. Of late I've found out, they were not such great friends. :( But; happens. D

I've used the dating sites many a time, my first solid relationship was from a dating site. I will be giving them a go again.
You are right about friends coming and going......the thing that worries me is that the friends are going.....but no new ones are being made. I've just made an offer on an apartment so I may possibly have solved my living situation.

i am in a similar position. had a great bunch of mates both work and car club, including the best mate i've ever had in my entire life. but decided a couple of months ago to make a lifestyle change and move to a more rural location to be closer to family. problem is i hated leaving alll our friends and i've had difficulty making new friends, especially outside work. good on ya for having the guts to share, i found car\ hobby clubs are a great idea and will be looking at joining something local in the near future. just be yourself mate, if you allow people to see the real you (easier to say than do unfortunatly) and be willing to hear thier stories, you can make some very strong, very real bonds with people.

There should be atleast 1 car club there inwhich you can join... Jump in and become a CAMS Race Official... it started me off on the right foot in the club scene...
I went to a CAMS event on sunday held by the Bathurst Light Car Club... After that 1 event, i have been asked to join their club, aswell as join AMSAG and help with this weekends Rally of Bathurst and on top of that, been told to put in an application to Officiate at the Dutton Rally in Novemeber... plus who can forget working at the 1000 as an official... (will have all applications is soon)
