Woot! Looks like Perth will be getting another awesome AU. Do you know if you'll be NOR or SOR?

Nah no idea at the moment. I'll be doing a months training between Sydney and Adelaide before making the final move anyway. I will be getting a company car but I just need to work out what to do with the AU. It's worth nothing to sell, it needs some attention but I don't wanna drive it over. I would need it trucked over except I'm sure that will cost a fortune :(

more questions guys,

it looks like ill be working in the suburb of canning vale.

google maps shows this being on the south side of the river.

So what are some good suburbs around that area? I also want to be somewhere where i can ride my pushy around. its a fixie so id rather a flatter area. whats the CBD like for bike riders?

CBD is good for bikes (unfortunately for some of us that they like to annoy ;))

Most like to do a circuit around the river for a ride, along the north and south banks of the river and over the bridges at either end.

In that area I'd probably look for anything north and west of there, i'd avoid east - it's not that bad, just preference :P

Canning Vale is my home town/village. Rent is a little dear (standard for Perth) but there some nice housing estates here. Besides when I'm a little tipsy you could pilot the EL GT around

I went house hunting last year as I wanted to move out of campus living, the best suburbs I found (budget wise and good reputation) were Murdoch, Kardinya, Bibra Lake and Leeming.

I eventually moved into Bibra Lake great laid back suburb it's basically all just young families and old retirees. Massive bike trail around the lake itself and you can ride to shops no problems . Also about a minute down the road from my place is adventure world and paintball , definite win in my book.

Canningvale is a good area, House age would be between 0 to 20yrs. has a major shopping centre smack in the middle, very close to the freeway and most importantly the Motorplex would be 20min away tops, so if your in to off street drags they run every Wednesday from first wed in September through too last Wednesday in May, cost $45 to race and you almost always get at least six runs. (great value)

See ya there maybe? Cheers, Craig.

Yeah as Poidevin has mentioned, they are all good suburbs.
Not sure what Gaz is trying to hint, as there are options east too.
Thronlie, Southern River, Harisdale (sp?) all good, with lots of new housing in there. - I'm in the new(er) section of Gosnells, we try and call ourselves Southern River, due to an old, long standing but outdated stigma to the suburb name 'Gosnells'.

One thing about that area as a whole is the airport. Low flying Cessnas go from dusk until late. If you have ANY issues with small aircraft noise, be careful at what you look at.
(I'm sure we locals can scope out any housing if you need a hand)

thanks guys, i will be looking for a unit, preferably away from housing commision areas too... i live close enough to that sort of stuff in sydney and would prefer to avoid it! my bike is obviously for the blacktop so around the river sounds good. more research to be done!!

Thanks for all your help so far! Am heading over for an overnight trip on Thursday but won't really have time to do anything. I'm staying at a hotel in burswood. I'm guessing that's the cbd??

Very funny bucky too lol.

Burswood is around 5-10mins from the CBD. It's where the Casino is . Would make good base because it is fairly central.

Over here it's called Homes West housing.
As the news tells us every other night, there is a large shortage due to a lot of them being sold off as the boom hit here 5 or so years back.
In most suburbs (that I know of) you'd be lucky to spot 2 in the same street. And with there being such a overload of need, a lot of the houses are really well looked after.

Completely understand. - Nothing rude about it.

I've been in Gosnells for 5 years, it had one of 'those' reps for a very long time. The in-laws have lived (just streets away) for 10+ years, the sister-in-law too.
They've had one break in between them in that time, I had the GT busted in it once over 3 years ago. (my fault - the EB central locking died so I had to park that in the shed)

Canningvale has had a bit of trouble for a while. It was a new area 10 years ago, with cheap land. A lot of young families moved in and as the kids got older, they started causing 'issues'. Now, with the prices out there being as high as they are, it has seen some of those 'types' move on.

dont know where you get the TROUBLE idea from, ive lived in canning vale for 18 years, absolutely love it, wouldnt live anywhere else.

gosnells is a much lower class/ older area.. my mate lives there and im down there 4 or 5 times a week and havent had any problems myself. but i wouldnt be walking around by myself at night there.

if i were you HLC id be living in Canning Vale, or just down the main road a bit in willetton. willettons a bit older the canning vale, but still some nice places. depends what your budget is. theres a new estate right next to my one which is beautiful, if i had more of a career going for me id buy something there.

Hey all! I was actually in Perth on Thursday night when the boards were down! Spent the night at the casino watching the soccer and drinking pints! PINTS!!!! Woo haha since my hotel was there! Nice place!

My future boss even suggested looking at rockhingham area too since I'll be getting a car/fuel card and he lived down there and reckoned the travel was easier. I'd prefer near the CBD but i just dont think I can afford it.

I'm budgeting for around $250 a week preferably less. Yes itstight but Im not interested in paying more on rent than I am on my mortgage.

Nice place, easy going people and yeah!

bit far from canning vale mate.. you would get sick of the drive.

trying to get through the freeway in the morning is a PITA, roe highway is usually pretty good tho between leeming/welshpool.. if i have to travel anywhere out of that area in the mornings i give in and stay at home lol.

Hi HLC,
I'm in Willetton which is just next door to Canning Vale. Older suburb, friendly people, good shopping centre, excellent public transport, quiet (helps working shifts) etc. Probably the thing I like most about the area is how easy it is to travel around with the likes of Roe Highway, South Street/Ranford Road and Kwinana Freeway on your door step. As previously mentioned a bit of light aircraft noise but it doesn't bother me.
I paid 365k for a duplex (first house) back in January last year. No regrets what so ever.
Drop me a PM if you want to know anything else about the area.
Cheers,
Ian
