if u can still pull of a time like that, go for it.
But the dudes who sit til the race is over r the ones Im on about
And i tend to compare it to ppl i would be up against- 14 n 15 sec braket, where a big r/t will loose the race (in the way of who crosses the line first)

Spose there is a difference between 'racing', and 'dragging'.
A race is won by who ever crosses first.

Thanks Luke. I go to Calder alot, usually to try to better my time. I'm not usually worried about the car in the other lane unless i know the person or the car. This usually means that my reaction time is slow. When needed my car is able to race and quite well. On the 13th of May i lined up a friend from Vicstreet utes. He has a mid 12 second VY SS ute and races hard. Not wanting to lose i did the same. Result??? (time slip below).

I lost the reaction time by 0.018seconds. Jas ran a PB of 12.657 and lost to my then new PB of 11.033 by 1.606 seconds. I latter realised from this run that my car actually goes slower when i try to spool it up.

I'll be at Heathcote on the 16th July if anyone wants to test out the "slow turbo's off the line" theory. _2:

Geea, Once you put a huge turbo to get to the 9s or whatever.. you're on
I believe you are still running a factory turbo ?? No need to get a cut lunch while you spool up.

So the G man is running a factory turbz, dood their is almost no need for you to sit their and spool. I think that most people see the big turbo cars sitting their and pulling better times than when they dont, the thing is they need to because of lag its not just a shift problem it takes a long time to spool up a turbo that may have been designed for a 12 or 16 litre diesel truck engine lol.

As you say you pulled a PB when you basically went heads up without the extra spool time, I'm gonna take a guess and say that you had much better traction off the line when you did/didnt do this, how was your 60 in comparison??

I'm with Pete. Spooling is for poofs.

Not a fan at all of watching a car sit there after the light has gone green.

Pete, we often discuss this at Calder.... what class could they go in?
There is no class for the long long spooling turbo cars, they have to run street tree, so street meets could be the only class they could run..
.

You wouldn't do this in the States, they use a big shot of NOS to pull them off the line...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alex ask Jason to put some imput into this thread he has raced single turbo cars in compertition in the States...

I'll do it for a stir, but to beat you Geea, I'd need to cut a '40 something light, which is no problem.

But I'd need to run an 11.50 or better before you would rush past me.

You have an excellent point, but you are the exception rather than the rule.

In his original post he was refering to 10 & 11 second cars.. 'Most' 11 second streeters wouldn't have a huge turbo that took along time to spool imo.

GEEA, I often go to Calder with the VSU crew. Good bunch of people. Thought U may have raced Wayne seeing as he is in the mid 11's now.

Maybe i'll give you a run at Heathcote. Seeing as I have already put up grudge matches against people running tough street cars. But that will just add to my misery, as I don't expect to beat ne of them.

Guys this is what the forums is all about. Animated disscussion on different points of view. I actually agree with AP, i think the street drags is a replacement for traffic light racing. I also understand that some of the more serious cars use it to help their development. Even though some of the faster cars take along time to leave the line it's still good watching an 8-9 second run.
I'm very fortunate that the car i have is very quick and drivable, anyone who has even modest driving skills would be able to get my car in the 11's easily. My car makes me look good.
I'm really looking forward to Heathcote and catching up/meeting the guys from the forum.

i think what Pete was refering to was the likes of the VL's that have a turbo as large as the engine that take forever to spool up

i am very lucky with a V8 not haveing to let it spool at all, you will find the BA T6 will always run a good reaction time aswell as there all running the standard turbo to my knowalge

most of the cars that sit forever at a street meet or a test & tune spooling are trying to run huge MPH to see what there car is capeable of, at a comp meet you will find cars running a hand opperated brake aswell as a trans brake so the can spool the car before the come right into stage

as has been said already several run gas to help the turbo spool up faster, I can remember one night when a very popular VL couldnt even do a burnout until one of his crew open'd the boot & cracked the "Blue Bottle"

regards
rod

Retarded timing and sh!t loads of fuel [Antilag] should spool up a turbo..So fuel burns in manifolds / turbo...
These cars are fitted with way too big turbo's..From trucks etc where turbine is way bigger than compressor housing...Not all turbo applications are like them...

watch these cars @ race meets, i gaurantee they dont **** around on the line there.
they hold hi rpm instantly, not bringing the revs up slowly for 10secs.

there is no place for that at street meets, let everyone have more tracktime.

Maybe when people run 9's and 10's they will understand, Calder Park and Heathcote are for anyone 9sec VL's or 22sec Lasers. spool or no spool, VL's spooling are like 14sec BA's doing massive burnouts on street tyres.
