Great choice!

I too had a 3v in a BA xt. Loved it and never had a problem.

Torque on tap down low but it's completely out of breath at 5000.

They originally went into the F-150 so they are most definitely a truck motor but purrrfect for a cat.

Well done mate, I reckon you've just built the best jag conversion in the land.

Yeah cheers man. I will be a lot happier once she runs. I've installed a manual pedal set up already and will be looking out for a 5 speed. It was a v12 so has an lsd already and had pedders lowered coils and shocks on it. It has an injected lpg set up on too so might be able to daily drive it... early days but positive so far...

Good luck on the project mate, I too had haters when I said I was going to put a 5.4 DOHC boss into my cortina. It goes like stink.
As for parts hit the net and look in the states, plenty of parts from spark plugs to after market plug and play ecus. There are also plenty of performance camshafts available for the SOHC's over there to.

Thanks man, yeah USA is the go. I found an engineer near me with a mechanic who can do the harness, also the lpg set up, I can't wait to get it all going now, bugger the haters, I had a boss 260 in a 59 third but had to sell due to finances...this time I will get it going.

Love this for a swap, actually better for this sort of car than the quad cam. Would keep away from the t5, the tr 3650 is mor suitable as far as 5 speeds

Hi again guys, I got my new sump with pan at rear off a crown Vic. Dipstick on crown Vic goes through block not into sump itself. There is a plug in it though. Does anyone know if it's a snap bolt? I assume it is and will drill and easy out if I get no other option. Also, the plastic sensor that plugs into the side, is that really necessary? Is it just for level warning?. Any clues appreciated. Dean

The plastic sensor, is that in the crown vic sump? If not which one and where abouts mate?

The dipstick hole im not so sure but I will be finding out in a couple of months when I too will have to place a crown vic sump onto a 5.4 but a DOHC.
The early engines were just a ball bearing pressed into the hole.

Hi man, the plastic screw in sensor is in the original sump from Barra 3v 5.4. It screws into the side of the deepest part. The ball bearing thing might be right, I've noticed the crown Vic dipstick tube is smooth with an o ring on it so threaded seams unlikely. Cheers

Well there you go, found plug to be alloy tapered affair...with sump off, rolled engine on side and with air chisel lightly hit it till it fell out, put stock tube in for now, might be able to bend it a bit to suit, won't know till exhaust etc....

why not? Simply because I have a 500hp supercharged V8 engine ( you do know its not a stock 260 dont you?) sat in the garage doing nothing and I like supra's having had one in the uk.

I also like to do things differently and am not a purist at all. Rip out the asthmatic N/A 2jz and drop in what I have.

No dramas, it must be a 3v thing. All the 4v's I've got don't have a sensor in the sump.

I will have to look at the 4v going into this ftruck to see if the block has the
dipstick bung for the rear mount sump. If not I'll cut the dipstick section from the front sump and weld it into the rear sump.

3V is great engine. Minor issues aside.

I still wonder if it's actually going to fit into the engine bay. Jag engines bays are long but narrow. Not trying to be hater, just interested, I hope you can make it work.

If all else fails, there is always the Barra Turbo option. I think that's already been done. It won't sound as good as a 5.4, but it would certainly be fun.

Hi man, it will fit, no bonnet mods either, I have a crown Vic rear sump on it now, and gearbox on the way...once here I can make mounts...so 99% in. Will post updates, intake may or may not fit as height may be able to go down another inch or so, apparently an extra inch is always good......sorry.

Man you don't muck around. Well done. I had a 5.4 SOHC motor in a BA ute, it was awesome. You won't be disappointed.

Hey guys, I have a problem. I bought a tremec t5 box from BA XR8. Issue is that starter motor sticks to side of bell housing. It's really wide with solenoid sticking out. Is there an option of a smaller unit or a starter with solenoid on top 90° to where it is now? It looks like it will hit chassis rail by an inch or so...any ideas appreciated.

This is one of the reasons I never used the original BA manual in my cortina. I would have had to modify the chassis to much for rego.
I ended up getting a C4 conversion bellhousing from the states, it uses a mustang starter on the driver side now. It points towards the front like a early windsor or clevo.

I've never seen an alternative one for these, mind you I never looked either. If I find something that may work for you Ill sing out mate.

As you'd know, the Boss plenum will stand higher than the bonnet.

Yeah, there is another problem too, the stick will end up too far back, about 100 to 200 mm somewhere. Might have to look for a shorter box as well. I was trying to find a different bell housing and rear extension housing that's shorter...might be easier to change box, really don't want to go back to auto...thanks for any info guys.

One of my old XJ12's was converted to a manual.
However this was using the original V12 along with a Dellows bellhousing and Supra 5spd box.

Hi man, yeah I've seen that kit, I've found that the box I have is a tr3650, if I can change bell housing to mustang and rear gearstick housing to mustang all might be easier...just hoping I can get a smaller starter at moment....the rest might be fixable, with a hammer.haha.

Well, I put box behind engine and sat it in place, fits almost too good. Need to make a bracket to move stick a few inches forward easy ish , starter at its widest point sits just above chassis rail so hammer time into passenger foot well. Just need a bigger hole in tunnel to allow shifter to come up an inch of so. And you won't believe the stock Ford gearbox bracket looks like it will fit perfectly...custom exhaust manifold will be a must , need pipes to drop in middle like Chev rams horns....

Well, weeks go by, can't do much as injured but got ****s with bodgey selector mod so made a better one, even fits under console and through original hole where auto selector went. Next to cut tunnel to fit starter motor ...it's gonna be a drama...engine mounts arrived. The engine side, gotta fabricate the bottoms off cross member. Got pics if anyone interested. Will keep posting as I go anyway.
