16 - 22 is a bit of a gap, 16-20 would be about limits.
Score for him anyway (sexist comments out of the way).
I have 5 younger sisters, the oldest are 12, 17 and 17 (almost 18) I can pretty much understand where you are coming from, it's almost unspoken between "mates" that sisters are a "look but don't touch" priviledge. But would you rather him, your 'best mate' at the time, or some random you couldn't pick from a bar of soap?
You read his phone without permission, you're just as bad as he for betraying trust. If you wanted to know what was going on, surely you could've approached your sister?
All that said, just deal with it. If he treats her well and he's a decent guy (as decent as you can be for 22 going out with a 16 year old...) then don't get in the way. Don't go out of your way to go out when he comes over, just be polite and deal with it. Soon as he makes a wrong move, belt him one.

I thinking we create a thread where we quote all your legendary posts. Thats classic.

Now on the subject. Mate she is legal, yes he betrayed you. I spose she is your sister and you feel protective of her. But if you trusted this guy, isnt it better that she is with someone you trust then you distrust. I know that there probably no trust there now. But basically i would be happy if i knew my sister hooked up with a good mate of mine, this is cause i know my mates have respect and would treat her right. She better off with someone you know then you dont know.

I also didnt read all the posts, but will give you my 2c....
If you have the attitude "keep away from my sister" then it will only happen behind your back as they will hide their relationship from you. Doesnt matter what you do or say, if there is something between them, so be it. All you can do is advise your sister as much as you can, tell her your opinion and tell him if you ever see your sister upset, and its his doings, then he will need to deal with you. Other than that, let them have their own space, otherwise you will find you will push your sister away and stuff up that relationship also. (I have a 17yo sister so i know where your coming from - you just have to hope SHE makes the right descision for herself)

I don't get the whole mates & sisters no-go thing, it wouldn't phase me if that had happened with my sister and a friend (she's 21 now but I would've been fine with it when she was 16). My philosophy was/is that if my sister was happy, and my mate didn't break her heart/treat her badly, all was fine, and in fact I'd encourage the relationship. Well, not to the point of "hey guys, take my room!" or "Here are the keys to the EB"...

To put it another way with mates + sisters: better the devil you know.

You looked at a mates phone messages (that is not a good thing) I met a bloke at the pub about 12 months ago it was friday night after work drinks we talked about a range of stuff with our beer goggles on & we started talking about ex's. He told me a story about his last relationship & how it ended. He had been going with the girl of his dreams for about 12 months but there where not living together. She was away on a business trip interstate about 3 months into there 12 month relationship. She got called away on another business trip last minute & she asked if he could stay at her place to look after her dog. He went shopping for some sexy underwear for her while she was away to supress her on her return. As he tells it when he put the underwear away in her draw he spots a diary. He thinks I shouldnt look but does & it talks about a guy she meet on a business trip & how the spent 72 hours of shear joy in her hotel room with this guy getting up to all sorts. He is ropeable he confronts her about on her return. She says did you look on the cover of the diary & he said no. She gets out the diary it says 2003 on the cover & she dumped the snoop in 2005. I nearly fell of my bar stool.

My mates and I beleive that we have nothing to do with each others sisters, but as long as they treat her right it's ok. Just look after her as everybody has said, if he does anything to her or gets her drinking alcohol too much then step in. You need to talk to him, i now this sounds stupid but, set "guidelines" about dating your sister. About her being 16 well as long as he's careful and takes it slow as long as not to attract any attention from everybody else, i live in small town so news travels fast and stuffs everything up.

i always see it has the eldest gets brought up with a strict life, as apposed to the youngest.. where they get everything - lol.

i don't think it should be the brother being the second head on a sister, they're going to do what they want when they're 18 anyway.. so trying to set someone younger than you on track in life doesn't really work... none of my bro's are older than me..... I sure as hell would hate even my parents trying to tell me what to do with my life when I was 16..

i don't have a sister, but i've experienced the 'strict parenting' when i was younger ... i couldn't do what i wanted, in away i think it was ok, cause back then i wanted to smoke, which i don't now... though my younger bro when he turned 16 he was able to do what he wants...

life was unfair for me back then :P

I know this situation well. I have 3 younger sisters. Some food for thought being the eldest. My parents weren't all that financial when I was young but as my sisters were/are getting to a similar age my parents are in a better financial position to fund recreation of my young siblings. They received things I was never able to have and went places I was never allowed.

Maybe I just broke my parents? I was kicked out of home @ 18. I was told never to come back although they were thinking I would. I never went back. My old man beat me pretty bad, the police wouldn't charge him yet I had obvious injuries. My old man is huge and very fit. It's pretty obvious why I didn't go back. It's funny now as he's been diagnosed with a brain tumor. Which medically explained his anger/mood swings. As the tumor got bigger he got crazier. They medicated him till the tumor was discovered. It's 25mm in diameter now. He's still waiting for an op which is very high risk (not very much chance of survival).

Regardless of both people being of legal age, there are boundaries that shouldn't be crossed. Unwritten law-you don't hook up with a mates brother/sister. I could not possibly see why a 22yr old would want to be with a 16yr old in the first place. Maybe out of school, 6yrs difference may be alright but damn she must be in Yr 10 or Yr 11!

Unfortunatly reading text does not provide a condesending tone of voice for the last sentance I wrote which was directed towards gbright's former mate.

For some reason, Black XR6, it seems you enjoy being derogetory. I think we should support each other on this forum as we are mainly all here to share the same interest. If all you've come to do is put people down perhaps you should find somewhere else to spend your time.

As far as i was always aware 16 isn't legal in this case. From what i was always told, 16 is the age of consent as long as there is less than 2 years difference between the involved parties. So basically its legal for a 16, 17 or 18 year old to sleep with a 16yr old, but no older. If she's 18 she can get it on with anyone she wants. So if what i've been told is correct she could turn back around later and he could be charged. If anyone has more insight into this than me please correct me. And n ot saying they are, just a scenario.

Australia has different ages of consent depending on the location. For the majority of Australians the age of consent is 16, but for those living in Tasmania or South Australia it is 17.

The table below outlines the different ages of consent in Australia16:
State MALE-FEMALE MALE-MALE FEMALE-FEMALE SEX
ACT.........16.................16................n o laws
NSW.........16................18................no laws
NT...........16.................18................ no laws
Qld..........16.................16................ .16
SA...........17.................17................ .17

Victoria.....16.................16................ .16

No offence, but I don't think you can really trust anyone. I mean, you proved a point - you can't be trusted either.

Your sister is going to learn one way or another. Sure you can try your best to make sure she is treated right, but mate, let her live and learn. Your parents obviously respect and trust your friend enough.... I know the point is he lied to you, but it seems a lot more deeper than that. You would've got on your high-horse and tried to stop things if he was upfront and honest in the beginning.

I also agree that 16 and 22 is quite an age gap. I work with a lot of younger girls and have found the odd few 16 year olds are very mature - a lot more than some of the 17 and 18 year old ones that I work with.
