Yes conversion to RHD and all the engineering, fabrication of custom interior components and compliance testing is about 20 mins work by the 1st year apprentice......

Look at the pic. All they have done is unbolted the steering wheel and pedals and stuck them on the other side with km/h written on the speedo with nikko pen....

Australia is one of the few countries in the world that does not allow LHD cars (as in new, not antiques) so why would someone do it if they did not have to. In the UK all the GT40s sold new were LHD.

I can see all the work that has gone into the conversion.And yes its a fantastic job that has no doubt taken at least a year to perfect.But is still worth more than double the price of the car.Would there be any hidden charges as in import tax and so on?

Personally I think that have done a terrible job converting it.

How could you do handbrakies with the handbrake all the way over the other side? Also how would you get the tissues out of the glove box without having the gear stick get you in the ribs. I couldn't live with it!

I'd rather move to the U.S. for 12 months, buy a GT over there and drive it around in the States, touring the countryside (in a Ford GT mind you!), then bring it back to the N.T., get it licensed there as LHD, then bring it back to your state of origin running the N.T. plates.

Conclusion: Have a one year U.S. holiday in a GT and don't have to butcher it to RHD to drive it over here. Overall cost difference would be negligable.

I think the stripes are either a 'delete option' or an extra cost item. The black one does look pretty tough, though, without stripes and with the lightweight option wheels.

I saw a red GT40 parked in John Andrew Ford's showroom (Auckland) last week. They had it on loan for a promo. It was RHD. I think there are a couple RHD models in NZ

I think you will find that it was a GT40 kit car, not a new Ford GT. Apparently there are 4 Ford GT's in NZ, all left hand drive.

$550,000? That's stupidity. The GT retailed for $149,995 US ($163,732.13 AU). Almost $400,000 of markup? Stuff that, car's not worth it.

So much better you can buy for alot less then that...

It was a genuine GT 40 , not a kit car. Maybe I am confused with the RHD, I will have another look

If it was a genuine GT 40, could you find out what the chassis number is? It’s pretty easy to dig up information on these.

You are joking, right?
These cars were not made to be luxurious. The whole concept of the ford GT was to take its inspiration from the GT 40.

As for the conversion, personally, I’d leave it LHD.

For ADR's don't they have to do crash testing? I can see if you have to sacrifice a 200K car then the price tag is probably close to the mark.

Obviously it's not too much if the five that are being converted are already taken.
