Thanks everyone for all your messages. She's doing heaps better and is back at home. A couple of us stayed with her last night to make sure she was ok (much to her protest). She says she's still a bit jumpy at every noise outside, but hopefully that will pass. She's a tough old duck, and although this has knocked some of that out of her, she's on her way to getting back to her old self.

It's just unavoidable that kids these days don't respect anybody or anybody else's property these days. They seem to think it's fun. And the parents don't stop them because they probably also think their kids were only having fun and meant no harm. Idiots. I'd like to see a court case against a parent who's kid destroyed somebody else's property, or injured somebody, because they thought it was 'fun'.

Here's hoping your gran makes a full recovery, knight042.

Where my parents live there is a bit of a community - a bloke caught 2 kids turning off people's power at the switchboards of their houses. One refused to say anything, the other spilled the beans on where they both lived, names etc. When he took the kid who was uncooperative by the arm back to his parent's house and explained what his son had been doing, the Dad's first words were "get your hands off my son" and nothing was done. No apology, nothing. When the parents won't punish or even apologise for their kids for what is criminal behaviour, then who will keep them in line?

If the parents won't do anything, and the cops can't or won't do anything, then what we'll end up with is more vigilante justice. There's plenty of people out there who would turn a blind eye to this if the person copping the beating was a vandal/criminal with no remorse who is known for causing trouble in the area.

In my estate it can be used legally as a thoroughfare from the park neighbouring to the street at the other end. The residents aren't an issue, it's some kids nearby who keep smashing a light. It gets replaced, they smash it again. It got put on a taller pole, it got smashed again recently. These kids are also thought to be responsible for graffitiing 5 cars that were parked on the street.

Not good at all - glad to hear that she's back in her home and slowly getting over the whole thing.

Too many little sh*ts getting around these days causing trouble and disrespecting not only their parents but also the property of others and the wider community. Unfortunately dealing with these issues via constructive dialogue doesn't work, some people (young and old alike) need to be taught the meaning of respect the old fashioned way.... by means of a few broken bones and a busted jaw. Lets see you throw bricks with your arms in plaster you little c**ts.

Its not always the parents, (in fact mostly not at all). Short of locking your teenage kid up at home, they are going to be going out with mates places out of a parents supervision and not listen to their parents advice no matter how much they belted the info into their heads. I've had plenty of mates who have done really stupid things when I was young and thankfully didn't cause any serious problems. I had 1 mate who used to swing at golfballs randomly in a neighbourhood park towards houses etc. Now, he won't even throw something on the ground that may cause injury to someone stepping on it. They will grow up and realise how stupid they were but its just the mentality of teenage kids, getting them to realise the consequences is like teaching a young child the significance of saying please.

And I realise alot of people say "what is wrong with today's society". Well it isn't todays society, its always been like this, my uncle's and such have told me what they used to get up to with fireworks, slingshots, slugs etc and it was just as bad and dangerous.

Why are kids out so late???? Alot of this **** happens in the middle of the night. When living in Perth, one bus stop I used to drive past would have the windows kicked in almost weekly. just near there one night about midnight, 2 kids on a bike decided to play chicken with me.

Living here in Newcastle, kids are running around vandalising, the local footy club hall gets done over monthly, shop owners are harrassed by large groups of teenagers when opening their stores early in the morning, and females are harrassed and robbed at night.

If the parents knew where their kids are, none of this would happen. Responsibility needs to stop with the parents as these are the people responsible for teaching kids right and wrong.

I'LL GIVE YOU A CASE WHERE it is the parants . the 4 year old girl across the road throws rocks at her 14 year old sister . the sister complains to her mother . tells the mum to stop her . the mother comes and stands in front of the 14 year old to protect her . the 4 year old throws the rock and hits her mother . the neighbour yells out . give her a smack . the mum says . i cant smack my kids . no wonder her 17 year old son bashes her up. and the old man doesn't smack him .

So in a nutshell, both of you are arguing about Cigarettes and Bundles of Sticks

I suggest you end it and get back to the discussion at hand
