This may sound like a stupid little comment , but really it has only just occured to me that if u say u get about 400km for $50 worth of fuel ( not very likelly !..lol , but just say )...... 100,000 km / 400km = 250 refills @ $50 each = $12,500 spent on fuel since owning the car !!!!!!!! ( more if anything !, just rounded it down to those figures roughly ) ..
That's another car in fuel ! - Just proves how darn expensive petrol is :( |

Just went past 110,000 this morning.
Hopefully very soon I won't be doing 100km a day.

All I can say is I hope you get as many trouble free km's from your BF as most of us have gotten from our AU's. The cars have the same DNA so it should go well.

Possibly, i was thinking about the AU, it was the shape of the BA which sucked me in, as with most people i guess. The AU just wasn't my cup of tea, although i'm quite fond of the Fairmont in it's trimmings. The one thing i noticed when i drove an AU forte, in comparison with the BA xr6, was the AU seemed more willing and spritely off the line (both auto). Having said that, the shorter first gear in the BF ZF, makes it take off like a rocket, with a claimed 0-100 of 7.4 seconds (independant review). If i'd bought an AU instead of my EL ghia, back in April last year, (yes i've had 3 cars in 9 months :(( ) i probably would still have that today, as if there's one thing AU's are great at, it seems to be reliability/drivablitiy.

105,000 here. Passed 100,000 kms a few hours into a 7-day holiday down in Gippsland. Rattles come and go, but the exhaust definately changes over time. It's a bit more noticable than say about 30,000 kms ago when I first got it modified.

Anyhow, its all good. Maybe oneday you will look back and curse yourself buying an EL over the AU.. who knows. Either way I've has 130,000 kms of happy motoring in mine with only one failure (MAP sensor) and that was just annoying fuel consumption, not a "Breakdown".

Yeah I was actually thinking 0-100 in 7.4 seconds sounds slow , i haven't timed my car yet, but i could swear my AUII XR6 VCT easilly gets from 0-100 way before 7.4 seconds ! ..... is that the rating for the BF :O ???? , if so that's lame ..

Casper ....wow ! - i didnt realise these newer models were so slow ! . whats the go there do you know ?? ...seems to be pointless having a 6 speed auto if the thing doesn't go any faster !, sounds to me like the 6 speed auto would be constantlly changing gears , couldn't be a good thing for an auto over time ! .

The AU XR6.. in fact all the XR6's.. are jsut quick cars relatively speaking. Not BA XR8 or VX SS quick of course but certainly 5.0L Ford or Holden quick. Think you hurt the SV6 owners feelings? Try it with a VR/VS Clubsport owner.. it positively tears there hears out.

The 7.4 was quoted from a magazine (wheels i think) review from november last year. I haven't run mine in yet so i'm not about to test that figure for another 1000km or so, but i'll get back to you with figures. I know my stock ba xr6 only managed about 8.3 to 100, so it's a vast improvement on that. The au is a fast car, always has been, lighter too (albeit less powerful, but not by much).
I'd be keen to do some mods to the exhaust, but want definite answers as to whether modding the exhaust screws with the sensors (setting emission warning lights on the dash, THANKS EURO EMISSION STANDARDS). There is a lot of potential for getting this car well into the 6's for 0-100, just have to wait until the BF is fully analysed, and the findings released. As far as handling goes however, my mate has an AU xr6 and the handling of the BA/BF is far better, (with both being stock) but then i drove my mate's gf's VX acclaim and that made the AU look like a wrx sti in comparison.

Personally , but its all a matter of individuals choice i guess, I consider the XR6 VCT handling 1 of the best i've encountered , not a mm of slack in the wheel, only thing i do miss is when straightening up the wheel after a u-turn it hasn't got that 'auto' return to centre like most cars do ( is like the wheels used to pull the steering straight on an older car ). I nearlly gutter mounted it the first few u-turns of driving it ..lol, but now im used to it i love it .. responsive as ! .

It has no castor effect ? weird, reminds me of a 70's Holden :P
Casper have you driven a BF with the 6 speed auto ? It ИИИИS on the 4speed Ion unit, it holds gears through corners far better than my BA ever did, it is programmed to not shift gears until you're ouut of the corner, giving a manual effect. My bf corners considerably quicker than my BA ever did, and presumably a lot quicker than the BF with the 4 speed. The mating of the gearbox/barra 190 is beautiful. I'd be very interested in seeing how you and i would perform around a windy track/road, i believe it would be a lot closer than you seem to think :P not taking anything away from your car at all. Black spur ? ;p

Ive spent alot of time in BAs - XR6/T/8/GT/GT-P - when i used to sell them. And i can say , without question an XR6 VCT will outhandle the bunch of them.As casper said , for NVH when cornering / driving hard the BA wins hands down. That was my main reason for choosing the car I have today- Exceptional balance , and im still on stock Tickford springs James |

Well i passed 120 000 the other day (and yes i shed a tear)
But still plenty of Holden Munching 347 power left to enjoy. Doing over 500k's a week sucks *** though! My theory is, one it gets to 180 000 its time for a new engine, Hellooo Dart block Cam |

As for handling, pick as many gears as you wont.. soft springs and an IRS system that has more grip than the perverbial on a blanket causing push understeer wont get fixed in any of them. The B series XR6's were done for confort, they lost a lot of hard edge. Ive never done the black spur so I dotn know how long it is but if its a 10 minute run of twisties you will be pushing to keep me in view.
