Easy, launch said Aurion down the steepest long incline you can find, mash the accelerator, press record on camera and upload to youtube...

I couldn't care less either way but most cars read about 7 percent higher than the actual speed
according to the Aussie Toyota Owners club the Aurion is one of them
http://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forum...peedo-problem/
The speedo in the vid never did reach an indicated 100kph so the car probably fell short by approx 10kph

I had a hire one (albeit a 2011) for a few days up in the Gold Coast back in April, wasn't that impressed, although the hire cost was more than agreeable.

Reasonably economical given the engine size but at first drive I thought I was driving a big 4 cylinder (I thought I was getting a Camry).

Not that quick off the line. Pleasant enough to drive though, quite quiet. I have had two Magnas, I reckon the last one I had with the same size engine would have smoked the Aurion off the line although the Magna wouldn't have not matched it on comfort, build quality, ride quality or fuel economy. I didn't like the foot-actuated park brake.

Given it had probably been thrashed by all and sundry, as per a lot of hire cars, I'd have to give it some benefit of the doubt. Not bad, have driven better. It was a bit soulless, I can't imagine someone pulling one out of a barn in 25 years and saying OMG OMG OMG OMG a 2011 Aurion, let's spend 2 years doing it up to its former glory and tracking down NOS spare parts!!!

The 2004 BA MKII Fairmont I bought from Hulk goes better than the 2011 Aurion, and given the reputation of the BA is built better than I thought it would be.

The TDCi Focus I drive every day is a lot more fun to drive.

I hired a new Hyundai ix35 in Tassie in January, that was even blander and wouldn't have pulled the skin off a rice pudding.

Stock and without boost?

My point is the presara aurion is a very serious contender at that price, very good performance for what it is. Its not meant to be the quickest car made.

BTW: Wheelsmag lists the latest Aurion at 0-100 at 6.1 and 0-400 in 14.2 which was achieved at the Sydney dragway, ambient temp was 13degrees.
Ecoboost G6 was only a few tenths slower in the same review.

Have to agree my wifes 2007 ZR6 speedo is out reads about 4-5k fast at 100k must be Toyota being conservative.

Done 0-105 because speedo error in 6.8 sec which is about the same as SV6 and XR6, and as for build quality no better than Holden or Ford.

Some of you guys should check yourselves and stop getting on the bag the troll wagon sooo quick every time!!! If Wheels can get a 6.1,then I see no reason why one can't be in the fives to 100 in the real world. They post notoriously slow times and have forever.

And just because they're using the same engine and gearbox from last decade, don't be naive and think they don't heavily modify those over time to hit performance n Eco markers as weight is added.......

In the clip Hulk posted, if it actually was level ground(trust) and reached 100km/h it would be round what Wheels said, a 6.1sec 0-100

They arent a bad car, i respect the engines in them.

Be as it may, still hate the black wheels on them

Like others have said it didn't even hit 100kmh plus the speedos are out a few km it would have been in the 6s. Magazines test actual 0-100 not using a stop watch on a factory speedo that's out and probably going downhill on YouTube

The youtube run was done on flat ground. Also in a brand new car that could loosen up a bit. Also 3/4 tank of fuel. It's likely to get quicker after a few thousand kms.

If people are concerned the speedo is out or it didn't hit 100, add a few tenths to the time to be conservative. It's still well under 6 seconds no matter how you slice it.

That puts it quicker than all non boosted stock falcons, including all pre Miami V8s. Not a bad effort to belt our n/a V8s in a car sipping 9.3litres per 100 km fuel usage.

My point is they are a very serious contender at their price point and in my books at the top of the list in the family sedan category.

Does own dodgy run... better than Wheels... claims it as gospel.
Uses Wheels' results of all other cars as comparison.

Didn't you consider that if you can get one to go faster (I don't actually think you can, or record it properly), that it is likely that all the other cars you are rubbishing will go faster too?

C'mon Hulk, how many times do we have to put up with these rubbish "reviews" that use chopped up facts to make your point?
Your point is never made if you can't compare apples with apples.

And please tell us where we will sit on the social ladder if we buy one.

Default Re: New Aurion Presara $50,490 !!!!

I've owned an EA(new), EF, EFII, AU(new), AUII(new), BA(new), FG XR6T(new), and now an FGX XR8(new)

I've also owned a 2007 Aurion Zr6, and a Current Model Aurion ATX (2013). Also have TTD V8 200 series Landcruiser.

I think i can make comments based on experience.

An Aurion will hose a stock Falcon or commodore from 0 - 100 every time - without fail.

Drive is smooth and refined, and as far as comfort goes, its better than any falcon.

No, the Aurion doesn't handle as good as a falcon, but for 90% of most people's driving you are not pushing either car to its limits.

Aurion has better fuel economy hands down. The best i ever got in a Falcon on my freeway run to work was 9 litres per 100km.

My 2007 aurion would get low 7's (7.3 - 7.4) and the newer one with the same engine(apparently) was getting 6.3 (don't tell me they don't refine the engines).

As for build quality, from my experience there has not been a falcon (out of the 8 i have owned) that is built better than either of the two Aurions or the Landcruiser.

Putting it simply - Toyota build quality and reliability puts Ford to shame, and that includes the FGX XR8.

Never experienced Gearbox milkshakes, rattles, trim falling off, mechanical problems in the Toyota's unlike the Falcons.

If i had to choose between a stock Falcon or the Aurion, there would have to be a special price on the Falcon. (i don't mind the design and look of the Aurion for a Daily driver).

Sure i also like something more exciting, hence the FGX Xr8, but in reality if you really want a "drivers" car then don't even bother looking at anything Australia produces.

I think there are a lot of people out there who just jump on the Toyota bashing bandwagon without really having the experience in one first hand to really comment.

No One pays $50k for a presara, Haggle and its under 45k driveaway.

Toyota are number 1 for a reason.
(no i don't work for toyota)

a good honest post.

I am too a long time falcon owner (currently have a xr6t) but i call it as i see it. The Aurion is a very very good car especially for the money.

Mates Aurion with 160k kms:
Continously replacing clock springs
Driver's seat foam collapsed
Key can be removed from the ignition while running
VVT hose split and dumped all the oil, nearly killing the engine. (this is a major fault with all early 2GR engines)
Steeing wheel leather badly worn.

My EL is alot older and more Kms and doesnt have any of those issues

Default Re: New Aurion Presara $50,490 !!!!

My old man had a (06' I think) Aurion Sportivo, and it was a good car. 200kw no slouch! Interior fit and finish was better than my G6ET that is newer. Very reliable too. Not one fault in 5 years of owning it!
