The above ad has it advertised at 157hp. I’d have thought that pathetic figure would be omitted, especially when you could buy an entry level BMW 325i with 170hp.

I didn't find a 1982 325i, but found a 320i which had a suggested manufacture retail price of 13.5K in 1982usd. No idea of the hp.

The Mustang 5.0 GT of 1982 was listed in the 3.5K range.

American cars in general had terrible hp ratings in the early 80's and gradually improved.

They were all terrible off the showroom floor.

They would comfortably run 14 second quarters with the HO motor. Which in the 80's was quick. Would have been very few US muscle cars capable of that during the smog years, before power started creeping back in the 90's.

Didn't take much to get them going significantly quicker though.

The GT's ended up at 220hp, but there were Cobra's that made 300hp?

I loved my Mach 1 back then. Of course it was not stock and by modern standards not so fast.

I though it was only the last foxbody cobra SVT in 93 that made 235 HP and ran a 14.9?
Which is around the speed of the 220HP N/A 300ZX of the time.

You are right on the hp, but a little off on the ET. The guys we tuned were running mid 14 with their plane Jane models. Just took a little setup work.

Yes is it. We raced an '86 T'bird for a while. It was powered by my first 7 second, naturally aspirated, petrol burning small block Ford motor.

This was...uhhh, a couple years ago.

You got taste old John boy, with the right kit the the cereal box looks good.

What the hq-hz,cortina, fox body all have in common is lack of suspension travel and poor weight distribution.

Not sure what a foxbody is like but the first thing you notice when jumping into a 6 cylinder cortina is the mammoth XD-XF trans tunnel and the tiny footwells.

Then you pop the hood and the firewall looks like it has been taken to with a sledge hammer with the radiator hanging about 20mm behind the front bar.

These cars were a work of evil and I'm suprised more people didn't come to grief.

+ The 250's torque comes on like an anvil, non of the OHC sixes i've driven compare on torque delivery.
