I think people mis understand the question,

But thats fine, some people understand plates and what they can mean to their owner.

For me im happy to let this sale go by, and miss that 650 and just let them hang on a wall somewhere (Or put them on the BargeBeeQue), its a good talking point, and most people can read them, which surprises me mostly.

Heard of a guy here on the Sunshine coast that knocked back 15k for the plates 4DWIFE that are on his mrs's 3 Series Beamer, he loved the plates, the missus loved them and he didnt need the cash.

I have GTP.888 plates bought when I was going to buy a GTP, 888 is the leading V8 team, I have since tried to sell them I put $1200 on them but not even an offer. Still for sale. Waiting waiting...

one day someone will say you sold them for what!

The fact is that there is now so many types of these plates that the market it flooded and you can always find something that will work for you. Unless its a low digit vintage of a real classic like like "Ford" you will get from a few hundred to occasionally a few thousand and rarely more.

Timing also plays a part. 3 years ago a good friend of mine could not get an offer on the "BROCKY" number plate when advertised at $1,250. It was used at Brocky's funeral. Now it is not for sale.

Hahaha! I kind of agree with you but your actual car is pretty out there isn't it!!! I don't think I'd even notice whether it had plates...and I mean that in a good way!

Plates are worth way more than the actual cost if someone sees them and is willing to pay for them...basically exactly what Flappist stated.
I dislike most silly plates but quite like the JJ66/33/ model types, albeit most are lost on people unless they are in the know hence my basic ones- RAREV8.
These can be put on any make of car (that has a V8) and because of this, I will probably hang on to them for a long time.

They would be worth a few bob, however, they’re probably not worth as much as you might think. Because these plates depict one model of one make, although, a very desirable one. People who have original GTHOs tend to keep the original plates that were issued to the car at the time of its registration.

I’d imagine that plates like these would be displayed proudly in someone’s garage, cabinet, or with other memorabilia.

Heritage plates (numbers only) are the ones that are worth the big bucks.

For a rough guide to what they could be worth check the PPQ website , Some are so over rated but it might give you a ball park idea. But if I was you I wouldn't get rid of them as everyone knows you by those plates.

As said, plates are worth what people are willing to pay for them.
I would never knock back an offer of over $5000 for ANY plate (if I had one )

Sounds to me like you plates are worth more to you than to anyone else. Keep them, you'll be glad you did.

I don't have a front-on shot, but you get the idea. I've had these plates for many years .. I got the idea for them from an old CarCraft mag where I saw a '68 Impala SS427 with the same plates (coincidentally I owned a '68 Impala SS many years later ..)

Talking of undecipherable plates I was thinking of KLVN8R for my '74 AMC Javelin, but thought it tooooo obscure - AMC was formed when Nash-Kelvinator and Hudson combined - I liked the joke, but thought I'd be forever explaining it. So I ended up with NASHTY which is still related to the marque but even if you don't understand, most people just think it's NASTY spelt incorrectly ..

I was approached and offered the no plates "PNKBTZ" at the last Knox cruise night.
He said make him an offer, my wife said tell me what you want for them.
He came back 1/2 hr later with the price of $2000.
We said thanks but no thanks.

Ok so to you they are worth something, or mean something, to me they mean nothing, i cant even see how you got barge out of it, so either take what he is asking or keep the plates.. no disrespect..just my opinion...

For the difference between $395 and $650 plus I'd opt for the BAR63 plates if I were interested. They both say the same thing when you take into account "leet speak" and the fact that the first three letters are well, letters, it would make it increasingly easier for those who aren't as educated on "leet speak" to figure out exactly what the plates say.

My opinion anyway...

As for the value, I'd accept any offers over $500 for them. Though, in my experience I don't usually sell my number plates. When my commodore sells the FAKEID number plates will remain in my possession just as all number plates (even standard issue) do. That is of course the person who purchases it doesn't offer me an amount which is too hard to refuse.
