Old school for FTW.

Muscle for the weekender, Retrotech for the daily.

I love old school.

My XE is going to be the newest car I will ever own (I hope) but does XD-XE classify as old school? It is in that nether region between old school and new school.

Well both of my V8 beasts have had "plastic" bumpers XE ESP 351 and now BFGT.........so I'll have to say that the more "modern" day FORD muscle has always appealed to me more.

PLASTIC not RUSTIC..........

Well my Clevo has 3 on the tree, so I'd classify that as old school!

Thats what shannons is for.
I would rather a car that actually appreciates, when its time to sell I get what I spent in time and money back, stuff losing 50% in depreciation in a few years.

I dont care what I drive as a daily,a hilux will do as well as anything, its not like you can appreciate a high performance car on your daily commute now is it..

I think it's hard to classify anything with leaves on a sedan ( and everything else),big carby fed engines and column manual as standard equipment as "modern".

I would classify xd's at least as a classic, the newest of them are 25 y/o .

Plymouth Roadrunner is pure classic muscle formula. Cheap as possible even a heater was optional it was just pure performance half the price of a Mustang and a quarter mile in 13.4 seconds anybody here know of a roadrunner in Australia or a Valiant with a 426 Hemi?

One thing I like about my old XE is only I know how to start it you just have to crank it the right amount and give it the gas at the right moment nobody else can do it lol.

Like so many have said before me here; Modern car forevery day driving.
But for a treat ,when the sun is shinning, like today, a blast in the
"Hinterland" burn some fuel and create some serious rumbling tunes.
Best of both worlds

when they can make plastic look as good as chrome i'll be interested. at least with the old cars when u turn the key u know whats happening under the bonnet. and then there's the note, doesnt matter how much money u throw at it u cant make a new car sound good.

value is only what someone is prepared to pay which proves that old skool stuff is highly sort after. i wonder if in 20 years time the EBGT is gonna be worth more than a house?

give me a twin system and a set of straight cuts over 20 inch rims and neons anyday.

That's not really true. You'll only really turn car enthusiasts heads, even more likely to be older which makes it an even smaller crowd to admire your car.

New cars for me. More reliable, more comfortable, no problems with obtaining parts, decent air conditioning, CD players standard, more convenience (power windows, cruise control etc), less maintenance...

Old school cars are awesome, but their day has been and gone.

To be honest, I reckon my bum will be an ORION FPV in series II guise if its any good. I love the OLD SKOOL Fords, but I prefer the NEWER versions in terms of ownership.....The creature comforts, the sorted handling, the BREMBO brakes, the race ready looks and the throb of the BOSS is addictive....owning any GT is enough to keep me happy for a very long time.

It is true actually, i was parked next to beautiful modded BAXR8 at my local milk bar, the owner was a member here and we were having a chat when surrounded by the local BMX gang, to my surprise all questions were about the XA !
They barley noticed the Blood orange XR next to it.

That's one occasion. A BF-GT in a bold colour with the stripe package seems to get the best results constantly.

Not in my experience,
Have you had people videoing and taking phone pics of your car just driving around?
Do you get kids hanging out the windows of their parents car or yelling out from street corners for you to "rev it up"everywhere you go?

Have you had random chicks come up and ask if they can come for a drive?

All these things have happened to me or owners of muscle cars I know, the new cars are a dime a dozen and while nice, dont get that reaction.

No it never happens with an FPV GT 40th Anniversary edition. I'm sure you've driven one and have noticed nobody want to buy one off you or toot at you.

My brother gets nearly of this in his VY-SS alone.

You guys can make your points, but don't be so ignorant as to completely put new cars out of the picture. That is one thing that really bugs me about old school car enthusiasts.

Too true!
The waitress at the bistro we went to last sunday in Wonthaggi, a lady 50ish, came to our table and enquired if we owned the "magenta" coloured ford out the front.
1 out of 2 aint bad!

Wow way to prove my point of your ignorance. I thought you'd at least have the decency to accept it, but no of course. Since it's not old school that can't be. No there is nothing all that special about his car, but that is what happens regardless of what you want to say.

No not because they disagree with me, but they just don't give the new cars any respect like they deserve. I accept that they prefer old cars and they certainly have many points new cars will never beat, but it doesn't mean new cars should be disregarded all together.

Have a look at a colour chart from the early 70's and you'll see where the latest bold colours originated from. There are at least 4 colours that come to mind that are very similar to the pastel's of the so-called has beens.

Oh, and did i mention that my wife drives an AU II XR8. The best of both worlds.

Yes to all of the above...........In fact, every time I take the BFGT out for a spin it gets some sort of reaction from someone, somewhere........It's a great feeling and reminds all of us....OLD SKOOL or NEW SKOOL that we are driving something special.

But I also got this with the ESP.........I'm also 100% sure that people will be breaking their necks to have a gawk at the new ORION FPV's when they're released as well.......... It's all good

So people will randomly walk up and just want to talk to him about his car because they/parents/mate has/had one?
What about at servos , do people come up to him and want to buy it ?

I guess others would just flash their lights and wave or give a thumbs up because the thats what they did to the 30 ba/vy's they'd already passed in the last km?

I drove a modded bamk11 xr8 ute for a month or 2 and never had that response at all.
I take the coupe out and get all of it.

Ignorance my ***,Im not still wet behind the ears talking about cars I dont own,and Im not some old fashioned geezer either.
I talk from my experience, about how things are,I know people with all these cars you talk about, and Im sorry wether you like it or not it just does'nt happen the way you are making it out.

Have you ever lived outside of lakes entrance?

Ive actually lived down that way for a year or so,and let me tell you its not a good example of the cross section of this country.

Yes I can appreciate a new car,I drove a very nice CLK340 convertible just today, and I do own a 2006 model car myself,as well as a few others, and for shear road prescence there arent that many to match these old muscle cars, short of an exotic european supercar...

WTF is your problem? People ask him to rev the guts out of it, turn around when they see it go past, want to buy it off him, tell him it's a nice car he has and so forth. That's just what happens, now maybe it's not deserving of such praise but that is how people react to it.
