What I meant was they were quite high as normal vehicles, compared to the other normal vehicles which sell on carsales, ebay and in the trading post.

I've seen un-damaged examples of BA Turbos selling between $11k - 15k. No way would I waste 15k at an auction for a BA XRT and then pay all the fees on top of that. I've seen cars sent to auction with sand in the oil and other vandalism as a fair few get repossessed and the owners sometimes obscure some damage which goes undetected by prospective bidders at auctions.

Just for info, I saved $10k when I bought a damaged car a few years ago. Safe to way it was probably better built and painted than some new ones from Ford, as I had to strip, rebuild and repaint it.

I will say that auctions represent good value for a second hand large Australian built vehicle.

My brother bought a 2003 VY two years ago and has had no issues whatsoever.
15k with 60,000 kms on the odo.
Nearby Holden dealer priced similar at 20,000-22,000

Hey, has anyone registered as an online bidder/observer on Pickles web site? I've done so and need to install the Pickles Live software, however when I run the install program to do so my antivirus is finding an unknown trojan in the setup .exe file which is odd. I've emailed them but somehow I don't even expect to hear back which seems typical of most businesses with an online presence these days. :(

Thumbs up Online Bidding.... Easy!!

Hi falconboy, We regularly use the online bidding.... It`s great.

We had trouble when we first installed it. From memory we had to enable pop ups to make it work.

Try it - if it does not work just get onto Pickles and they will guide you.

One thing we are not happy about - They increased the fee for online bidding from $500 to $1,000. Sure, they refund it if you do not buy a car. But still a bit pi..ed off about it!

Kidding? I assume that $1000 is instead of the 2.2% or is it as well as? If its as well as then I wouldn't bother.

Truthfully I'm only doing it as an 'observer' to check out a few online to see what they are averaging over a few weeks, then head in and do it in person when I'm ready to buy and they have what I want. A BF Futura wagon would be nice, but with decent k's they are still a little above my budget, so a BA it might be. If I don't find something nice instead of like an EL Fairmont/Fairlane or XR8.

I did install it, ignoring the trojan message. For starters it was a generic trojan message from Avast, not a known trojan, so it might be a false alarm, and secondly, working in IT I can pretty much clean anything it might get anyway.

If you register as an observer - you probably do not have to pay it as you cannot lodge a bid.

They use your credit card details and withdraw 1,000 as security when you intend to bid for a car/cars. The $1,000 is then deducted from the total balance of your purchase. So the 2.2% would still be payable. If you do not buy a car the $1,000 is put back into your account within a few days.

I guess they do it to make sure people are serious about going ahead with the purchase.

If you do observe - could you check out the prices of V8 Statesmans for me?
2004 to 2006 models. Do not have time to watch the auctions at the moment.

Not many BA Futura wagons coming up - shame I didn't see the one from last week a few weeks later, I think I should have grabbed it at $8250. Will have to keep my eye out. I've got the dough sitting here ready for it.

Problem is most private sales of BAs that cheap usually have higher K's than I want.

Not to mention I need to take a picnic lunch to get to St Marys. Us Shire folk don't leave the shire for anything! Maybe only if the reactor gets attacked - and thats still only a maybe.

bought my BF mk2 xt lpg wagon today. 12/06 manufacture, 02/07 1st reg. nearly got it for $15700. got to 2nd call. ended up getting it for $16100. still pretty good for a mk2. there were 2 there. mine was lot 2 so i left early. when i went back later to pick it up i found out the other one went for $15k.

they are a bit cheaper due to the km's. mine has 73K the other had 78km. doesn't bother me though. the one i got was the better of the 2 condition wise.

gotta say, i'm pretty happy.

anyone want a ba futura wagon? has to go now that i've replaced it.

Almost always the case, if a vehicle sells really well they become common and floods the second hand market which drives the prices down.
If fuel ever goes sky high all those HSV's will be dam near give aways.

Default Great buy prydey!

Car has only been on the road for a year and a half.

$16,100 - that is a low price, and only 73k! And on LPG as well!

That is supreme value.

How much were they brand new?

Don`t worry about the one that went for 15k - If you had bid on that one you would have pushed it up over 16k anyway.

Sorry, but i can`t help with your old car. Put it on the Trading Post. Incidentally - my daughter in law has the same car. Ice mint as well. Carts the three children everywhere in it and it has been a very reliable car.

Considering anyone who reads this thread has seen how cheap the BA's are going for at Pickles, its probably not the best thread to try and sell it in.

Best bet I'd say carsales. Forget the trading post, I've found it doesn't work anymore. :

Nice colour though I must add.

falconboy, hate to be disagreeable - but sold my Statesman off the Trading Post yesterday. Never had a lot of enquiry - but it only takes one genuine buyer. They want to see nice photos nowadays. I take my cars down to a tree studded housing development that has a nice lake - nice background always helps in photos.

A friend at work has put his wifes Laser on carsales.com. Only done 44k and yet has not had a call.
Other mate swears by the daily newspaper.
Too many options!

Well.. we do but I originally told the mrs that Zest & Ice mint are my least fav.

Now that I've pointed out ice mint to her, she see's it everywhere.
Yours actually looks real good with the xr springs (and fairmont chrome grill)
Thought about it, perhaps with darkest legal tint..... :-)

The auction prices are great. Always wated to go to them but most are way out North (of Adelaide) and start from 10am.

i realise that but auctions are not everyone's cup of tea and there are other fee's and charges on top of purchase price. it's advertised for $11700 but i think too that i never expect to pay full price when i'm buying so why should i expect to sell for full price. i therefor build a bit of a buffer into the sale price, as do most people.

i figure maximum exposure can't hurt either.

zest is disgusting, had a look at one last month. ice mint (not that i'm biased) is one of the best i reckon. has a real glossyness to it and the metallics are awesome these days.

if anyone is genuinely interested they should make an offer. whats the worst that can happen. you may offend me but i've got thick skin. its not the first car i've sold.

cheers for the comments on the new toy. km's are quite high for its age but i only do about 10k a year so it won't matter too much. the dealers didn't even bid at all on this one. too many km's for them maybe. love the bf mk2 front.

lol. yep know how you feel there. Still its good to know you have one car in the family that runs cheaper than a 4cyl. :

Did you do any research of interstate auctions over the auctions here? reason I ask is that I have a mate who gets his cars from interstate as they are cheaper there and he transports them here for sale.

like i said earlier in the thread. the last 5 or so cars i or my brother have bought have all come from outside of adelaide.

as for auctions outside of adelaide, its just too hard, given that most of the govt ones aren't registered and for the bank to lend me any money (no i didn't have enough just lying around) the car had to be rego'd and because i can't rego a car in a state i don't live in it was too hard to try to sort everything out.

i did nearly buy a bf mk2 egas futura wagon for 18k in brisbane but it sold while i was on the phone to the auction guy. that was a bargain and a half.

ah yeah fair enough. I can see why buying here is better especially if your only buying 1 car. Its too much rooting around.
