Had a catch up with our General Sales Manager from our Ford dealer yesterday and he mentioned that Ford Australia have a couple of new products coming in 2020. While he mentioned the new generation Fiesta ST and Escape, he also mentioned the Puma! I tried my best to quiz him on the Puma, but he wouldn't say anything else, other than it was coming.

I asked him if the Ecosport was sticking around and he said nope that's gone, they're not importing any more into the country.

So I guess, there you have it, it'll be here, just not sure when? I'll ask our stock controller for more information on Monday and I'll also ask about the Endura.

The puma is a much more attractive offering than the ecosport. It will be a real rival to the mazda cx3. Something the tin can ecosport can never be.

The one thing I curse Alan Mulally for is how he taught Ford not to chase every sale.

Ford execs being the lazy bastards they are have taken that model so far to the right
that the retail price now governs sales and production.

So yeah, I have this dread that something like Puma will come with a price that will
almost guarantee that it fails. A $5K-$7K premium over CX-3 / CX-30 should do it.
Ford's premium pricing is now way beyond the sweet spot of ROI vs sales balance
and a king size marketing headache for dealerships.

I think a lot of manufacturers are slowly steering towards a profability > volume model. We're seeing changes to vehicles like Corolla, Mazda 3, even i30 when it was released in 2017 over it's previous model at 20k drive away auto.

The days of profit via volume seem to be diminishing.

I get that but Ford's pricing is also way over the that premium being added by other manufacturers.
I would settle for Puma's price being parity with the Mazda CX-3 or just close would do.

I would have thought to expect it to be the pricing difference if any that might have existed between Mazda 2 and Ford Fiesta.

Bear in mind that the Mazda 2 just copped a $5k price hike recently however.

If they have to source the car from Europe too it might change things a little also.

And with that type of pricing for the new Mazda 2, surely the business case for the new Fiesta to be launched in Australia has greatly improved? Volkswagen still has the Polo, there's the Skoda Fabia and Citroen C3 and Renault and Peugeot will both launch their new generations of the Clio and 208 small hatches, all sell in small numbers and all are imported from Europe, so you'd think the Fiesta would be on Ford Australia's radar?

Let's just hope the conflict between the US and Iran doesn't escalate, otherwise the small hatch might be back in vogue if the price of fuel starts to take off.

Better for keeping your eyes on the road anyway, rather than looking down at one in the middle of the dash.

A few reviews are live, CarSales seem to have the scoop on this as no other Australian media have driven it? They seem to know a few basic specs, fingers crossed it’s priced well and Ford might finally be able to sell some! A really strong review.

Unlike the first Puma, this one will be a global car, sold in key markets around the world including Australia (which won’t get the US-focussed Bronco or its smaller ‘baby Bronco’ sibling) later this year.... the only thing i got from this article was the highlighted.

The auto is a dct so that will be a bit of an albatross for a lot of people who will remember the Focus and Fiesta auto issues

If its good enough for Honda to bring out a new Accord and say they expect to sell only 150 a year...why cant Ford bring out six speed manuals for this and the Focus?

But if the phone is in a cradle it is OK. You have to look for what you are touching, rather than feeling for a switch or a dial.

Showed some photos to my wife and 17 y.o daughter (our fashion guru in her eyes) and Puma is now the preferred next car in our house, my daughter fell in love with it, in white please.....if I sell one van and take our Terry as my own...or rebuild the internal carport fence to fit 3 cars...yeah dad let's do that so mum and I don't have to share...
