Is it just me or does $5000 seem a lot for heads? You can get decent alloy heads for around 3k

yeah Kosteki does some decent heads, the price is about right for his CNC port jobs, and apparantly they are filled with good gear....its hard with my mate, he has had 7 VH's he just sold one with a 9inch in it!!! and went and brought this bloody one, he s very stubborn and when his best mate (me...a ford fan) start pointing out dodgy bits on a holden he just gets stubborn and defensive!! i shoulda dragged him away

because of the alloy drop tank and how low it was (and siting in its own tranny pi$$) we couldnt see if it had a 9inch, when it went on the car trailer i looked up and saw the bloody diff and went straight to the seller >:(

you re right, as if the guy would pay for a 9inch....why would he? maybe to save himself alot of trouble...but if he does a runner there is no way he will be able to show his face down the motorplex now, his friend died from a motorbike acciedent, its funny because it seems half the car is done with finesse and attention to detail and other (harder to reach places) seem to be dodgy done....two owners, one with car knowledge i spose,

oh, a 320 stroke...is that an offset ground crank, some chev/hemi rods and funny piston height? anyone know when checking the stroke what the normal depth is? i told adam i wanted to check the motor further before he pays for it, all in all, the guy seemed very trustworthy!

Cars are sold as is and on the spot.

No cooling down period over here either, so it really is a case of buying what you see.

I had to walk past a XD fairmont my brother wanted to buy, it was 9 grand and had a bit of headwork, 351 c4, etc. After going over the body, finding a rear main leak and then checking out the reciepts it wasnt what it seemed. The heads on the receipt were supposed to be procomp (they woulda been average anyways) but the heads on the clevo were cast, after checking the engine numbers, the motor seems to have been swapped. Glad I went there with my brother otherwise he woulda brought it. :

I thought when I saw the title that you got screwed over with you mean XF! Had me going for a sec.

Sounds a lot like the kind of person we ran into when looking for a car for the missus a while back.

She wanted a small auto car. Problem is small cars and autos tend to be buckets of crap, that's if you can find one.

We found one over at Runcorn. Seller was some Asian guy. We rock up and he's showing us the various dents/dings on it then comments that his wife did it and that women can't drive (my woman was getting visibly ****ed off when he said this ).

So then I say "ok, so let's take it for a drive". So off we go on a test drive. From the get go the thing drove and felt like it was about to fall apart. I'm thinking "no way" and the missus is like "oh its not that bad!". We get back and then I ask the guy if we could an RACQ inspection and suddenly he lost his ability to understand English. After a bit of prodding he then says "OHHHH RACQ INSPECTION OH YES I GET IT" followed by "OH YOU NO NEED THEM!!! I SHOW YOU ALL PROBLEMS".

I said "nah, sorry" and walked off.

unless he has somthing in writing about whats in the car he's screwed. if he does he can possibly get the cops in for fraud. but at the end of the day he deserves all he gets for not looking into it before parting with the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

heh yeah he drives my car more then me (15 months of my suspension left) i did him up a quote on the unlicensed one (had awesome gunmetal grey paint, smoothed engine bay and reciepts for a rebuilt 308 and tirhard) but "ohh its unlicensed booo hooo and it dosnt have any mods rah rah rah"

i did him up a qoute for licencing, wheels, tough carby Ls1 for 500hp, cooling fuel system and box...came to around $20,000 including the car, would have been a weapon but he would rather pay for a car he cant test drive and ended up getting a yellow sticker the other night anyway!

then it got broken into lastnight and they stole my G-tech :(
was running 111mph which shows potential

That's true however it says it came with a 9 inch diff in writing.

You could possibly get a refund because of that.

if your mate is looking at any kind of refund or legal action i'd stop working on/spending money on/driving the car and at least threaten the guy with legal action and see if he maybe refunds a little money. tell him you want the reciepts for th heads if he cant find them you want copies from Kestokies. I doubt he'll have them because i doubt they've been done. I hope for his sake they have so he at least has something that was promised.

No chance!
It's a second hand private car sale. People have alway's said and done whatever it take's to make a sale. It's up to the pidgeon's/buyer's out there to make the right decision before handing over the money.

There is no chance of getting anything back - "buyer beware" applies here.

I'm sure we have all been there and done that, gotten caught up in the excitement and you selectivley see and hear what you want to see and hear. The only cure is age and experience so I do feel sorry for your mate.

I reckon there is a 99% chance it had a 9 inch diff when he advertised it and when you looked at it the first time. He would have noted that you didnt see it and thought "i'll unbolt it, chuck the stock diff back on and make some money on the side" - this happens ALL THE TIME on modified cars. The seller will unbolt whatever they can, that they think you wont notice. His mistake was not thinking of the tilt truck.

It was your mates responsibility to visually check the mods and reciepts were in place when handing over the final deposit. Unless you he has a written, signed reciept stating the mods included in the sale he has no leg to stand on.

I advertised my wifes 15 year old Corolla a while back in the trading post for $4K. Some 18 year old red p plater (looked 12) came that night about 8pm to take a look. It was dark so you couldnt see the faded paint, he took it for a spin round the block (all of 400 metres) and DIDNT EVEN POP THE BONNET. Handed over the $4K cash (didnt negotiate) and was gone. Honestly take someone with you who knows what they are doing if your going to buy privatley!!! (which your mate did, just didnt listen to you!)

Some people just get excited and anything you say will fall on deaf ears, its just learning the hard way, we all have done it, sadly there is not much you can do......

Sounds just like my mate, asked me to go with him to look at a holden ute, the first one we looked at was totally rooted, rattly engine, stuffed box, rough in every aspect, I told him it would be worth 400$ and only good to use the shell to start a project, nothing more.

20 seconds later he walked up to the guy and offered him the 2k asking price, then later whinged at me for letting him buy a lemon......engine died about 10 days later, and box not long after that, cost him 7K to get it over rego and it was still a heap.

Sure he didn't do the cash deal at night so you couldn't make out the counterfeit bills.

No, seriously though, some people have absolutely no idea : it's a bit sad really !!! :
