IF any dealerships do Taxis, they are NOT Factory cars.

Period !!!!

It wouldn't be a bad idea to get the car re-sprayed anyway. Ford paint is pretty bad these days, especially black. Orange peel galore, and the paint is very thin.

[QUOTE=Rev28K]A friend is looking at getting an FG XR6T Auto Falcon. He likes the car but he doesn’t like the standard colours that are available.

He is after a gloss black finish – with no metal flake, no pearl effects. Just plain old boring gloss black. The closest of the Ford standard colours is Silhouette (prestige colour an extra $400) it looks like a dark grey.

My BA XR8 Ute is Silhoutte and i dont know where your getting the dark grey from, are you sure you have the right colour as the only colours i see in it is black and also blue speckles in certain light.

I think he may be confusing silouette with ego maybe, ego is grey.

Silouette has green pearl fleck in it, well my BF2 GT-P does anyway.
Its funny how they charge for the prestige colours on the XR's, a lot of these colours started out as XR only colours when the B series was new. Most will get an XR in a colour that is a prestige one, so they get pinged the xtra coin for it.

I saw a black gloss g6et with all the taxi fittings going down the assembly line at broadmeadows. It had the 18" steelies with mudspats and raised suspension. I couldn't tell if the seats were leather or vinyl, but they were dark gray in colour. The rear lip spoiler was removed, I think to make way for the ad board. :P

There's a few BFII Fairmont Ghia taxis down here in Geelong though, right down to the leather seats and 17 inch alloys.

ITS BLACK!!
It has a very very slight metallic blue fleck through it. You only really notice it in FULL SUN and whe you get very close to it.

Seeing as this has gone well off topic ... I'll add ... you may find rust with your black paint as well.

Have you done any other research since posting on AFF Rev? ie asked a Ford rep?

It would be interesting to see how this panns out.

No my mate hasn't but he will be asking a dealer this weekend. Lots of interesting responses guys, thanks a lot.

I reckon he'd be asking funeral homes if their black ones are resprays (get it straight from the horses mouth). My mate doesn't mind waiting for the colour so if somehow it could tag on the back of any factory sprayed funeral cars that would be cool.

Judging from the replies here the chances look Ethiopian slim.

Note 1 - There was an Aussie guy on one of the Honda forums who says that he got his Integra from the factory without the pearl that is normally on the Nighthawk Black colour.

Note 2 - A guy I knew had his car sprayed in a custom colour and it really stood out as something different until the manufacturer released almost exactly the same shade as a factory colour a year later. After that his car just seemed to fade in to the background.

Note 3 - I saw a nice WK HSV Grange the other day. I don't know if it was Phantom or Onyx Black but it looked like a nice solid black to me. Surely if we can send men to the moon in 1969 then we can, etc, etc.......

Thanks for all the replies guys, I'll try and get my mate to get off his bum and let you know how it works out.

Dude. Why are you so arrogant?

I have a news article from 2003 about Ford no longer painting the BA taxi packs yellow (for Melbourne cabs), but will continue providing a taxi-pack, painted in white I believe. I do know that there were BA taxi-packs, but am also unsure if it continued until BF. Either way, it was NOT 2002 when this ceased (if it actually has). Only one of the members on here who actually works at Broadmeadows/Geelong can give a definite answer.

So, get your facts straight.

As for an answer to the intended question that the OP was asking. I really doubt that Ford would 'specially' paint one FG on the production line.

Better off respraying, but Silhouette looks nice anyway.

I was at an industry address in Late 2002 or early 2003 when Geoff Polites indicated FoA were OUT of the Taxi business. And were pursuing the user chooser (XR's) and other fleet sales. He indicated that Taxi's were a poor image for the Falcon.

As for a special it is very unlikely to be done by Ford here in Oz. The amount of preproduction testing that occurs in the paint shop BEFORE the launch of each new color means it would be too costly, and a huge distraction for that organisation.

As has been said one hundred times, Ford don't do one off colors. If you can't even option an LSD in any non XR Falcon what chance do you have of getting a one off color. :

i think he would be happy with silhouette. even thouh he ain't keen on it, it the same with any car manufacture you can only pic the colours they have, for eg my mum wanted a metalic white ford focus and she had her hearts set on it. mum went in and tryed to order it ford said no mum can't that colour she had to settle for a plain white which they happend to be in stock so they sold it to mum for demo price because they did have the colour that she wanted plus they through in some lovely little extras, maybe that is the way to go, do a nice deal just to keep you friend happy that he couldnt get the perfact colour that he wanted, after mum got the focus home he was wrapped in waht a bargain she had got. So i think that maybe the way to go

Wow can't believe the thread has gone this far off topic!

If you don't like the colours available then it will simply be a respray at your own expense done through the dealer or after you pick it up.
I also don't understand how Fords black isn't black enough? There is so little metallic through it that you would only see it on sunny days when looking for them.
Not worth the expense.
