Did anyone spot the dude in the gorrilla suit in the background about 30mins into the episode? This is funny.

as spectacular as power oversteer looks, it is not the fastest way around a track. having said that the w427 still set a pretty impressive time.
i must admit though that i didn't see it live. watched the youtube link on p1. watched the start live then flicked back to 2 and a half men. i would never even reach for the remote with the uk version which sums it up really. its not so much the content as the very annoying people presenting it. still very stale and segmented. |

i think its getting better.
the little hyper-active knob is settling down a bit which was good. i think they've taken it on board to hold back on the "australianisms" that no one uses, so all in all the presenting is getting better. the astra bowls was good, specially since the missus has one and now wants to go bowling with it haha. and i doubt it cost them anything as they were probably media muels that will get crushed anyway.

I can't wait for the thread title "TGA series 3 episode 5 - What do you think, will it last?"
Seriously these threads are just getting ridiculous and are far beyond a joke.

I'm a fence sitter.Probably would prefer pommy presenters with Aussie cars. The old feller in the Aussie TG is a FW IMO.

I don't really think that we need an Australian Top Gear- like any copy, the original is what we are used to and love, I don't think that it would matter who presented it, it still wouldn't be the team that we have known and loved for such a long time.
Frankly, I would much rather that the Pommy TG team had come to Australia, US, etc and done a series of local episodes...this would negate the repeat reviews, avoid the issue of saying the "wrong" thing regarding the Holden versus Ford arguements....at the least the Pommy presenters would happily provide a less biassed conclusion. I want to support the local TG but I'd rather just watch the new UK series instead..nobody's fault, just my point of view.

I don't know why so many people keep whinging about Top Gear. It's the best Australian car show I've ever seen (by a huge margin!).
Maybe you should all go back to watching Glen Ridge on "The car show". |

I think its actually growing on me....
Although strange having the energiser bunny and John Farnhams twin brother running around the bush in an overpowered lawn tractor, but... I think i like it... there is enough difference from the UK one for my liking... I can see something happening in the future, similar to the Top Gear UK v D motor show germany...... The Top Gear Ashes, Australia versus UK......... Bring that on... Best Aussie cars versus the best the poms have to offer... lol |

"The best Australian car show" isn't a particularly good yardstick to measure against really! I think that it is good that they are giving it a go, no-one will deny that, its just that in many peoples view, it isn't working too well at the mement.

Its just getting stupid to make a new thread for each episode when they all start the same and contain basically the same comments thats all. May as well just have 1 thread with the same comments in it, or a sticky. Top Gear Thread xx it was good / it was bad... and lock that thread, it pretty much covers everything ;)

i was frothing over the dirt track shenanigans, he even said himself, people who bought that car would never take it on a track, so i was glad i got to see it go on one, it handled it beautifully. Was i the only one very surprised they let the top gear team into lang lang? |

i dont get why they so recklessly damaged those brand new astra's. How about doing a proper road test and them playing lawn bowls with some old bangers. True car enthusiasts don’t deliberately damage cars.

remember the uk top gear soccer?
i didn't mind the ep, so i voted yes. few wtf moments: w427 on dirt? that dodgy ramp for the astra segment? i enjoyed the bush segment, and the 427 lap. we will also see the f6 and clubsport around the track before the end of the series.

I wonder what Holden had to say after that little incident.

if you dont like seeing a new thread each week dont click on the link to open it... quite simple there!
but to the thread question at hand... yes its getting better by the episode some polish here and a vaccumm there and it will be a polsihed up show in no time. TRD segment was quite boring to say the least, jack tompson interview was "what were they thinking" material how slow and monotone was that interview/driving. wheres the drag, circuit, motorsport in general/sporting/celebs/singers ect enough of these "dont you know who i am, i was once a very popular person many moons ago" type guests. longer reviews is all thats needed and better info given during said reviews. but i did LOL at the w427 taking out the post that was gold IMO

i didn't want to comment because I don't have anything positive to say but....
Holden must have tipped in some dollars coz I haven't heard the astra complimented so much since..... well.......... ever! It is a peice of SH!TE compared to most (yes, most!) other small cars. Focus, 3, Tiida, Civic, lancer (!), corolla etc etc. Yeah, Charlie Cox is just to annoying. His Goddam mullet makes me want to puke. He is just not funny. "Ho Ho, I'm an Aussie Bloke. I like cars. I drive cars with lots of power. Everyone is a big girl. If I keep saying this stuff like Clarkson, people will think I'm funny too" YOU ARE IN MY CROSS HAIRS, CHARLIE! I do like the way they thrash the cars. I can't afford to treat mine like that so I enjoy living vicariously thru them. I like the cartoon guy I don't even mind the little guy but Charlie Cox. A nice guy in real life, but as a presenter? I reckon Mick Molloy is funny, but when he hosts a TV show........ |

This weeks episode seemed more of an infomercial. One of the best things I like about the UK Top Gear is that if a car is bad they say it is bad. This week the TRD Hilux - bagged in every review I have read - gets 10 mins advertising, and just about every variant of Holden's Astra range is rolled down a ramp.
Maybe the ratings drop off after episode 1 is meaning SBS are having to sell feature slots? MK |

The other guys are ok. A lot of people here have bagged the smaller guy but I think as a presenter he's ok. |

Interesting to read the comments & that different people like different parts of the show. I imagine the producers would be fairly happy with that.
I heard them get a bit of stick on the radio the other day for driving the Hilux off the tracks in the Kimberly, not to mention doing donuts (because its always funny...), and while its not the end of the world its probably something they don't need to do. Agree with comments on Cox, the other guys are ok but he needs the most improvement. I think they are putting too much time into the "star in a..." interview, it can drag a bit, and some of the tests need more "structure". Quote:
