Shared platform with the Vauxhall Corsa. Hopefully this will be a better effort than the strangely underdone 3.2 V6 147 GTA.

FWD sucks? I’d rather have a great FWD than a bad RWD anyday (and yes I own/have owned and sprinted both).

Your right. The 147 GTA was not the best it could have been. Suspension crashes very easily and with no LSD from factory. A good mate of mine owns one. Fitted a proper LSD and lowered the car by changing the mounting points on the suspension to keep standard spring travel and the car is unbelievably quick in the twisty roads.

Clearly you haven't driven one or read the link. The link clearly puts paid to the ongoing debate that the FWD wouldn't be enough.

Clearly AWD has more grip in all conditions than an FWD or RWD, but the RS has supposedly been designed to overcome most of the lack of grip, while saving weight and costs at the same time. Sounds good enough for me. As long as it's quick, I'm happy - and the article kinda reinforces that.

Hahaha, I laughed so hard when I saw that thing, it's a true life version of one of the stars off of the Movie cars.

You'd need skin as thick as a concrete slab to own one of them, people would hang on it every time it stopped at a set of lights, or was parked, infact - every time an owner dared take it outside.

It actually looks comical.

I agree that the new Focus RS is the meanest looking hatch around at the moment. Can't wait to see what FPV do with the Focus.

Actually, I gave Rod a call the other day and suggested to him to call it the F5 Willy Willy. He liked the idea.

Not from a bar of soap!
A couple posts in this thread have beyond a joke. People not liking the car is fine but brainless posts are not needed.
It's obvious that have a particular taste in cars :

I think most have arrived at their conclusions because of the that shot in the first post - it doesn't do the car's lines any justice.

I have to say I like a lot of the styling in the latest offerings from alpha, but that is not one of them.

Looks like grumpy micra, maybe micra's naughty cousin.

As for the claim of hottest hatch, that is one claim that is a tall order in todays market. 240hp is not all that much, it would have to be under 1300kgs to have a hope of proving that claim.

Look at the Mini JCW for a start, 155kw (211hp) and 280nm hauling 1200kg. Not to mention the offerings from other manufacturers such as the Focus RS, Subaru WRX Sti, Opel VRX etc etc etc.

Its a tough playground!

The base model is 1080kg with the 1.6 diesel weighing 1205kg.
So at a guess it will be around the 1200kg mark.

Hottest at the moment seems to be the Renault R26-R.

I'd be happy to see something better come along. Hopefully the RS (or an extreme development of it) could be better.

The Mito GTA Conecpt has been officially unveiled.
Holy crap it looks hot thats all i can say :

Although it is a concept model so the production might not come with these bits..

The MiTo GTA also loses weight by way of carbon fiber body panels such as the roof and mirror fairing and the rear spoiler. Aluminum is used in the suspension, chassis and brakes, all contributing to a vastly improved power-to-weight ratio.

Tail lights and head lights are a bad choice... [IMHO] but otherwise i think its quiet nice and has some decent potential, especially if it gets all the carbon fiber goodies.

Just a little more info. This engine is just being released in the 159 sedan with 200hp from 4750 to 5500rpm and 320nm at 1400rpm. So this in the GTA with an extra 40hp and probably a little more torque a little higher up will be plenty of fun me thinks.

Alfas are hideous cars, and if it weren't for the high price that comes with the whole "European exclusivity" crap, I question whether people would even buy them...

Front end looks like it suffers down syndrome IMO.

Depends on the Price tag, I would opt for the Golf GTI if it were cheaper.

Its quick no doubt, imagine trying to corner in the wet!

I'd have to see it in the flesh but i'd have to say I'd never buy an Alfa anyway - In general I love their styling and heritage (beautifal interiors) BUT they are so unreliable and expensive to repair. A mate just went through mountains of cash trying to keep a 3 year old 147 on the road. he gave up in the end and bought a Magna (driven to desperation).
